      Joel Johnson Role player is a player who plays a supporting role on his team, and does it well and willingly. A role player can either be a bench player who is a solid performer in the minutes he gets, or sometimes, a starter who plays a very specific role on the team.

  • @TvanBoven
    @TvanBoven Před 4 lety +2

    Two more things that a lot of people forget.
    1. He started a lot of fast-breaks because of his passing. Even after scores he was able to take the ball out very quickly and give the pass midcourt to put instant pressure on the defense.
    2. He stopped a lot of opponents fast-breaks because he went after every rebound and even if he didn’t get it, he harassed the rebounder to stop any potential fast-break.
    2 small intangibles but very valuable...

      Worthy was a guy you could build your franchise around in the 80s. He was no role player. Just another star on that stacked Lakers roster. He had to take a backseat to other greats and gave you the illusion he was a role player. But put him on many other rosters and he becomes the face of your franchise. Kind of similar to Bosh and Love how they were franchise players until they teamed up with 2 other superstars and became 3rd wheels.

    Nobody ever mentioned his passing. You can't just not shoot and be a part of an elite offense if you're not passing, and he was GREAT at passing.

    I was a preteen at the time, but I was still old enough to remember how great he was. If he was around today though people would probably just look at the box score and under appreciate him like they do Draymond.
