Neville Southall : My Everton Career 1981-88 Part 1
Quality and quantity
Everton is the best
I remember it got to a point when Southall made a great save , the crowd would politely clap because we got use to Nev making world class saves every week !
Even now, the man oozes confidence, fantastic player, thanks Nev!
I hear the word legend get bandied about for former players but in this case Southall is a true Everton legend. Why the club hasn't erected a statue in his honour is beyond me. Southall: two times league champion; two times FA Cup winner; one time ECWCW winner; most appearances for Everton; most appearances for Wales; FWA Footballer of the Year Award 1985 ... the list is endless. The greatest keeper I've ever seen with the closest to him being Peter Schmeichel. #legend
THAT is a great call Stephen.
If any player in My lifetime warrants immortalisation in Bronze then it's Big Nev MBE
Also,
PFA Team of the Year four consecutive years (1986-87, 1987-88, 1988-89, 1989-90)
@@DexxBlue very right.
Not 100% sure but I think he's got issues with BK . Definitely deserves one at Bramley Moore 💪
Great keeper, his performance in the 1995 final was typical of someone who knows how to win trophies. Legend!
Greatest goalkeeper to ever put gloves on. Modest, exceptional and class. Number one by a mile Big Nev 💪
Most underrated keeper ever.. only gets the credit from players who played with him, but should be in the top 5 keepers ever if not number 1.. the guy was amazing, and my fav everton player ever..
Underrated?! Maybe by the London and Manchester press. Greatest goalkeeper of all time. Ever.
This guy was a legend, my favourite player.
Watched him in an oldies game before the unsworth Bilbao testimonial . And a few years before at anfield with me grandad .only seen him in his prime thanks to CZcams .what a keeper !
How have I only just come across this? My favourite Everton player. The best. Love the man.
Welcome aboard! He's boss Nick isn't he?
Neville Southall, in his prime, was the best goalkeeper of all time. Better than Banks. Better than Schmeichel. Better than Shilton. Better than Clemence. Better than Seaman. Better than Buffon. Better than Yashin. Better than Zenga. Some of his saves defied gravity.
He was brilliant, but made errors in crucial games: Wales v Yugoslavia Nov 83 and Everton v Ipswich FAC Mar 85.
Schmeichel was the best
VERY true NK.
His save from Imre Varadi at Hillsborough !!!!!
To this day I can not believe that he managed that, Varadi was convinced that he had scored, everyone around Me was convinced.
Only one man wasn't, Big Nev.
A player through 1-on-1 with The Great Man ? Nev, every time.
@@joebriggs8106 Nope I have seen them both in their prime and Nev edges it
@@joebriggs8106 In direct confrontation against Schmeichel it was Southall who won with 11 United men shooting at Southall (including Schmeichel) for 45 minutes and did not beat him even as he was past his prime (1995 FA Cup Final)
Brilliant conversation with Nev, probably the first time I have really heard his story in his own words - he is a real winner. He mentioned his epidurals and rib injections - I was working at the Pain Relief Foundation at Walton Hospital at the time and actually walked into the treatment room by mistake when Neville was getting an injection in his spine ! It was kept secret at the time but it also happened with Peter Reid. Top players and winners for us, that’s what we need now, just one or two pieces of the jigsaw.
The amount of commitment and quality of content getting pumped out of the channel is top notch boys.
Love it
Love watching this series. Cheers for these videos guys!
Thanks Keith :)
at about 30 minutes and 10 seconds.... "only you"...... that is what made big Nev, the best keeper... I just love big Nev.....
What a guy nev is
And We LOVE our Neville Southall !
GREAT work getting this for us Toffee TV, thanks a million, I'm sharing this and insisting that recipients subscribe (I've told them before but I'm keeping on)
Thanks Mate :)
Love big nev the bin man an amazing man and he was a great goalkeeper
I was lucky enough to see him twice in his prime...incredible presence between the sticks
Absolutely love this lads, cant wait for part 2, big man is a little hard to hear sometimes but that just made me rewind and listen to him closer, what a man. listening to his philosophy has eased my unease over Silva somehow, I know from his days how things can turn in the right direction, I was at the Cov game and as depressed as I could be until Reidy came on, (who was a signing I personally wasn't to enamored with) and just took the MF by the scruff and dragged it into the game. That game stands out as the turn around for me, I barely remember the Oxford game tbh. Thanks boys, this really is quality.
Softly spoken, his mic levels were the same as ours but he is a bit quiet. Apologies about that but he's great !
Notts County 1983......Ian McParland smacked one from 8 yards out, two thousand of us toffees dived for cover, Southall tucked it around the post. Peter Reid scored the only goal. Thanks Neville, great memories.
Neville SAVEALL the greatest of them all. NSNO
This is quality💙
My oldest brother used to play in mens football at 13/14! Two games on Saturday and once on Sunday. A forward, quick, and deadly. They used to kick him to try stopping him. Pro clubs came in for him at 17/18 but he didn’t want to turn pro, and not surprisingly he had to give up playing two years later as he had damaged veins requiring surgery in his legs due to all the kickings he got from yard dog defenders!
All us Evertonian's that saw Everton H & A in 1980s KNOW Neville Southall was the Greatest Goalkeeper EVER. Wonder Saves Galore and Kevin Ratcliffe in Defence Sweeping up etc I remember Everton 4 WBA 1 one Tuesday night had it not been for 4 or 5 Brilliant Saves we'd have lost 4.5
You guys bring in the best .. 🥰
Imagine getting Neville Southhall for a council house 😂
Love Big Nev
This was great to revisit! Whatever happened to Dave who used to be on Toffee TV now and then?
Legend!
Great keeper, top Man even though He looks like Stan Ogden these days!
Legend big nev
We should of cloned big nev. When had chance could had loads of him back up
The goat
one thing... (maybe he is just quiet, but...) give your guests a microphone....! you two are just loud... i can hardly hear big Nev....
What must of it felt like Nev running out toward the Stretford End, North Bank, The Shed, The Kop, The Kippax & of course the Gwladys St?
FOLLOWED Neville Southall HOME And away thru rainy windy nights away in the open ends plough lane, newcastle, roker park, plymounth,,arysome park 3 times in one week freezing,,they where the days never won a thing untill kendal came along..but most of the talk on the 500 was how Neville Southall saved us after the matches some of his saves where unreal best goal keeper there was add say playing for wales never got the spotlight as a england goalkeeper got
Burnden Park, Highbury, Plough Lane, Stamford Bridge👍🙋♂️
Yes burden park before they stuck that supermarket in the corner
@@irenedunne352 Normid😆
part two like !!!! ?
Baz the sound isn't very good need a better mic on nev
We love our Neville Southall. Neville always says we should start every season aiming to win the league. Leicester literally came from nowhere but they were relegation strugglers the season before. (Look at them this season too). We have a good team just need one or two pieces certainly a goal scorer. It is a jigsaw and horrifies me to think about how them lot have got their pieces in place.
Loves his burgers now. Just kidding. Great keeper.
What 5 - 0 game is he on about ?
The reason I support Everton...inspiring...but..who is the skinny guy next to him..🤔🤣🤣..#southall #bignev #ledgend
Mic him up. Great stuff other than that. Boss.
He was mate, his levels were the same as ours.
southampton for fucks sake, how about actually winning a bastard trophy, thank fuck it was watford in the final.
great guy and keeper, but why is he so big needs to lose some surley, for his own health
Looks like he's eaten the first team 😂 big nev
