man im really loving this lens, it's super sharp. I am doing this safari adventure tour thing next year in africa and i already have a 70-200 GM mark ii f2.8 but i want something that can give me some extra reach that isnt too big. the sony lens is too expensive for me so i was looking at the sigma. What's your experience with it so far? hows the IS? is it super shakey if you are doing handheld?

It’s pretty amazing so far. And the stabilization is great if just using handheld. I mainly use a fluid head tripod for everything I shoot because I do video and photos if I have the opportunity. It can be a little soft when fully zoomed in to 400mm but other than that I’m extremely happy with it. The focus and blur are amazing. I got it off Amazon for 850ish CAD in a warehouse deal and it showed up brand new. Couldn’t get any luckier.
Also my FX30 is APS-C so this is equivalent of 600mm? (I’m assuming) 😂
This is my main lens I use for all my wildlife stuff now.

Also, a little sharpening in post helps refine the softness regardless 😎

So I have the a7iii and am mainly doing video also, I was tempted to get the 2x booster attachment to basically convert this into a 2-800 but you loose 2 stops of light which isn't great, but given the fact that we will mainly be shooting in the day in the Serengeti I don't think that will be too much of a problem, I usually have to run an Nd filter but I guess with this I won't

@@jassemahmed4389 haha that would be a tough call to make! The good thing is if you need the extra aperture you can always just take the magnifier off. Like if there’s an opportunity to get footage at sundown or sunrise etc. Either way it would make a great purchase and open up more opportunities (depending on how close you want to get to a lion 🦁 haha). I always have a variable ND filter on my lens that has a minimum of ND 2 when it’s fully backed off so I don’t even notice it. I’m stoked for you and your trip. It will be quite amazing.
