  • You come to mow the lawn, and your Lawn mower Won't Start? or if your Lawnmower starts then dies!
I can explain to you very quickly and easily the main reason why your lawnmower will not start after a long winter storage.
Take a look at the video, you will see that its usually the same cause year after year. The fuel in the fuel tank and the carburetor is usually the culprit. But there are some other things that cause issues such a sparking problems and stiff/seized linkages and cables.
However, there can be many reason why a lawnmower wont start, or a lawn mower starts then dies, these are some common reasons.
So, whether you are using a Riding lawn mower, Push mower, Petrol lawnmower or even an electric lawn mower, this principle is valid. Also true whether your mower has either a 4 Stroke Engine or a 2 Stroke Engine. The Robot Lawn mower doesn't escape this principle either!
If you are having problems starting your lawnmower then please do take look at my other, more detailed, video, where I help you get back you and running again if your Lawn mower Won't Start: • Lawn Mower Will Not St...
For lawnmowers with both the 2 Stroke Engine and the 4 Stroke engine.
A lawnmower may not start after a period of winter storage for a number of frequent reasons. Here are a few such justifications:
Stale Fuel: Stale fuel is one of the most typical causes. Long-term storage of fuel in the lawnmower's tank can lead to deposits that block the carburetor or fuel lines and prevent the engine from starting. Before putting the lawnmower away for the winter, it is advised to use fresh gasoline or to apply a fuel stabiliser.
Having a clogged carburetor means that the fuel was improperly handled or emptied before being put away for the winter. This hinders combustion by obstructing the flow of fuel to the engine. The carburetor may need to be cleaned or rebuilt to fix the problem.
Airflow restriction caused by a filthy or clogged air filter prevents the engine from starting and running properly. To guarantee optimum engine efficiency, the air filter needs to be cleaned or replaced on a regular basis.
Moisture Contamination: During winter storage, moisture can build up in the fuel system and cause water condensation in the fuel tank. This may result in poor fuel quality and impair combustion. This issue can be solved by draining the old fuel and replacing it with new fuel.
Problems with the spark plug: A worn-out or fouled spark plug may block ignition and make it difficult to start the lawn mower. This problem is frequently resolved by checking the spark plug and, if necessary, cleaning it or replacing it.
Problems with the battery (for electric start lawn mowers): If your lawn mower has an electric starter, a weak or drained battery may make it impossible to start the engine. Verify the battery's condition and charge level to make sure it is fully charged or, if required, replace it.
Other probable causes for a lawnmower not starting after winter storage include mechanical or electrical malfunctions with the ignition system, gasoline pump, starter motor, or other parts. To solve these issues, a professional inspection and possible repairs may be necessary.
It is advised to adhere to recommended winterization practises, including fuel treatment, cleaning, and maintenance, to solve these problems and increase the likelihood that a lawnmower will start smoothly after being stored during the winter. Regularly servicing and maintaining the lawnmower can also assist avoid problems starting it up after idleness.
    I hope this helps

Hi guys I just wanted to Introduce to you my other Channel "Kirkman's Academy" - which i'm just getting started. It's a go-to channel for simple explanations for hard to grasp subjects such as physics, maths and chemistry etc. Here is the link: www.youtube.com/@kirkmansacademy/videos . Thank you so much for looking, and if these topics interest you then I hope to see you the there. Many thanks indeed. Craig 😊👍

First time homeowner. My carb had a handy screw at the bottom to drain itself and the tank. Let that run dry, put new fuel in and BAM. Started right up. YOU ROCK

Emptied the bottom of the carb, the fuel had a tint of white to it. I let it run clear then it worked perfect after that cheers

Changed the spark plug then the fuel. Turns out it was the fuel lol. Great video thanks!

Guess who forgot to turn off the fuel tap and run the engine dry last year.... 🤣 The extra work involved in getting it started means that I am unlikely to forget this year... we can but hope! All the best.

Thanks Craig for the few simple tips. Check the fuel. Todays fuel is not like yesterdays fuel. Very susceptible to water. Thanks for sharing 👍

You're the man! My mower is POS, so I anticipate it not starting every season even though I use fuel stabilizer and run the thing empty every season before I put it away.

Bro, you gave me the answer with the sludge. But, I'm lazy and fixed it by turning g it upside down for a bit😂

Good video. Sometimes something gets out of whack with the safety brake shutoff switch too. Older Briggs Quantum 5 hp engines, many of them you had to spread the brake spring manually down on the engine, AND also push the throttle lever on the engine itself all the way to choke for those to start. Sometimes without disassembling the carburetor, or even removing it off the engine, you can run a fine wire down in the little passages and/or simply put a nozzle of carburetor cleaner spray to it and give it a shot. That may dislodge a tiny little clog in the carburetor left over one winter, no hope for engine sitting 2 years. Also be sure you have the spark plug GROUNDED to the engine, and held securely there when testing for spark. Or just use you a spark tester. Modern electronic ignition modules do not like being open circuited. Beyond the scope of this video, but on very old engines, pre early 1980s another common issue was points corroded or dirty. Cheers happy mowing!

Have you got a video on how to store power equipment. Want to know whether to store the equipment with fuel or without fuel? Will the metering diaphragm dry out and crack?

Hello. Please tell me. I have an Echo CS-260TES chainsaw. Can the muffler gasket (part 14551013931) be left with the old one? What is the torque for the muffler bolts?

    Quick questions:
Is the gas in the can from last year no good as well, or can I use that?
How are we supposed to know when we are mowing for the last time each year so that we can run it dry?

This seems like the exact issue I’m having. Gonna have to try this out before taking to a repairman. How were you able to siphon the gas out to check it?

    • @TheRepairSpecialist
      @TheRepairSpecialist  Před rokem +1

I actually took the gas tank off and tipped it upside down into the jar. That’s probably the safest bet in this situation. I do have a vid showing you how to do this if you would like to see it.
