This is what is so great about You Tube and guys like me and you who put things here on you tube for someone's need to fix, build or make something better. I hate lawn work and have since hired a gardener to do the work, and in the past I have paid for my no frills Craftsman's lawn mower to be cleaned out so it will start again. it is a really good mower and I keep it looking like new but I have not used it in some time now and I know it won't start like before by sitting so long. I was thinking of selling it for small change but the change is so small that I'm now going to keep it and just start it now and then say once every week or so and I am going to clean it myself now that you have showed me how to. THANKS FOR THE INFO. HOW TO DO IT.

Drain the float bowl and put in Gumout to soften the varnish. Put in gas and check if fuel is reaching the carb. Check for spark and compression. If the needle valve isn't stuck, it should fill up. The insides of the carb. could be gummed up. Replace the carb. if necessary. Check the spark plug and air filter.

  • @JimTMcDaniels1
    @JimTMcDaniels1 Před 3 lety +4

    FOLKS HERE’S ONE SURE FIX!:
I just found THE EASY fixe on My Briggs Stratton mower with a removable carb bowl, wouldn’t run on its own, after 2 years storage:
During storage, if you didn’t run the motor out of gas or add fuel stabilizer and ran, before storage: then the most likely problem is the gas in the carb float has started to turn into a clear yellow varnish like gunk that is clogging at least one of the small holes in the system.
So first, you may need 2 people, with the air filter off, try spraying some carb cleaner or starter fluid into the carb and starting. It should start and then die. Keep it running by spraying some into the carb. The carb suction might work the problem out and the engine may start to run on its own. If it does not after 2 minutes, then you will need to manually clear the blockage like I did:
Remove the air filter housing (8mm socket bolts)to gain access to the carb bottom bowl (10mm socket bolt with washer).
Using carb cleaner spray and needle and rag, closely check and clean the bottom bowl holes bolt removed. The bolt has a center pin hole AND 2 lower below the threads side opposing pin holes where fuel is drawn up from. These are probably need UNCLOGGING.
Also use your finger nail and rag, scrap the inside bottom of the bowl, clear like varnish glue will come off.
    Reassemble, do Not over tighten!
This TOTALLY fixed mine. If it still will not run, you may need to remove the carb and clear the larger pipe going to the carb Venturi although this is probably rare.
    Take care

I would recommend you Not remove the float bowl, just unscrew the jet that is on the bottom of the float bowl and look for tiny hole in the jet to see if it is clogged. Once you take out the jet gas will run out of the carb. and sediment will also flush out. Use a tiny piece of wire to unclog the hole or a micro drill bit. Spray some carb. cleaner through the jet hole and screw it back into the float bowl. Also, make sure the air filer is clean and the gas is fresh.

Bill William The float can be stuck closed from gum. Gumout may loosen it. The carb. may be clogged and need cleaning. Tap on the float bowl with the bottom bolt removed to loosen the needle valve. If fuel flows, it's clear.

Liked the video, but first I would try to add a little 91% to 99% isopropyl alcohol first. There maybe a bit of water in the bottom of the mower's gas tank. Water is a little more dense (heavier) that is gas. As an aside, you can ad a bit of the isopropyl to your car's gas (a fluid ounce is more than enough, probably) to reduce the chances of a gas line freeze. For those that are interested, the results of the above is that there are water in oil micelles there by created. So that the tinny droplets of water and isopropyl alcohol are evenly dispersed throughout the total volume of fuel. You're welcome.

Spraying the float and bowl with carb cleaner will not do anything to get a mower to start. If it's been sitting a long time, removal of the carb is necessary so you can get inside the passages to clean it. And there's no guarantee that will even work. My mower won't start and run unless I spray starting fluid into the intake. I may have to replace my carburetor..

No, dumbass. It depends. If there's a stubborn clog in the injector, you might be right. But if not, this works. And for clogs, there's an easy way to dislodge it that usually works and takes 2 minutes and no difficult labor. But since you already know it all, I'm not telling you.

I bought a sparkplug at an automobile store in town, had them check the gap before I left, even though the gap was preset, replaced the plug and the mower started on the first pull (as it usually did). The only "problem" I had was discovering that my socket sets and spare sockets were not sparkplug size, so I had to go to Walmart where I got a set with the correct size for a low price. No single sockets were available, so I did have to buy the set with two I didn't need. I later found that Tractor Supply store had single sockets of the right size, but the single price came close to being the price for the full set. It cost me $35 at auto zone for a new plug, air filter, fuel filter, 2qt oil, & a can of carb cleaner..
We'll see, The damn thing hasn't run since I let my son use it to cut my neighbors yard last year..
He made $20, I got a Fubared lawn mower.. Thanks dude!! Go with some fresh gas, even though I used stabilizer..
It still won't work, It always started on the first pull.. Damn it.. never letting anyone ever use it again except for MY lawn.. I cleaned the carb, It's still fubar?? I learned a lesson.. Never again..
