  • PROJECT UPDATE!
Before I'll take the wheels off, I took the opportunity to freshen up the look of the engine.
A transparent fuel line and fuel filter replaced the black hose.
The tires I ordered also arrived, the sizes of these Heidenau K60's are shown in the video.
The older type of valve covers were installed, the red front cover got sanded down and everything got a nice matte black (heat resistant) paint.
New gaskets will also be installed once the paint has cured completely.
Since I was so happy with the exhaust pipes on the previous R80 project, I decided to do the same this time.
The new pipes were installed so I could run the engine for a little time, since the paint hardens best by heating it for 30min after 1h of drying at room temperature.
The mufflers and DB-killers will be fitted later on, after I clean up the rear part of the bike.
With a dremel I sanded some of the cylinder fins back to a shiny edge to match the rest of the engine design.
I also painted the horn in the same matte black to blend in with the rest, and because it had some scratched that had started to rust where the metal was unprotected.

Glad someone noticed, those walls were a bit empty! But to be completely correct it´s actually a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk of the American Volunteer Group :)

Glad you clarified that, I thought the canopy looked a bit flat for a spitfire 😀
One of the reasons I like the BMW airhead is that old aircraft engine look....

    Hey.
    Thx for the vids.
Regarding the tires. You dident have an issue with the front rim being 19" and putting a 18" on it?

    • @ThomasC
      @ThomasC  Před 3 lety

The front rim is 18". I think it´s the GS versions that come with a 19" rim.

@@ThomasC Sweet jeebus that was fast! Thanks.. I just looked into it.. Its because I just bought a R100 RT and its 19" front and 18 back.
My old R80 Mono from 85 had 18 and 18 K60's on it.

@@ThomasC Oh and while I have you.. how did you get around the generator lamp/resistance with the Daytona? I cant remember if you mentioned it in the video.

@@zalobub if I remember correctly (it´s a year ago) mine worked fine without replacing it with anything else. I found it strange but since it´s a 1992 model maybe it´s a bit different from the older ones. On my brothers´ R65 (1986 I think) we did have to include the lamp into the system, I took the lamps´ housing out of the dash, wired it directly at the diode board and put the lamp in. It´s all insulated and works fine, he simply has a lit diode board now :-)

@@ThomasC I have to see.. Thanks.
And on last.. LAST question.. Have you had any issues with running tubeless tires on the rims?.. or did you just use a tube anyway?
