VIR Qualifying Crash

- I learned a hard lesson in how quickly cold tires on a cold track can bite. You will notice the wheels stays dead still while I slide off track. The front tires locked up as soon as I got into the brakes and simply would not unlock. The car wouldn't stop. Wouldn't turn. Nothing. To add to the shortage of skill, I had just gone flat out from turn 5 all the way around turn 10 leaving me with far more speed than I am used to.
Must have been going a blistering 55mph by the top of the hill.. lucky to be alive.
Love the pile of dirt sliding around in the floor.
Sometimes you miss the vacuuming part in the few day scramble to get a car back on track =D
@@blairdeffenbaugh6561 I can't say anything. I found a socket in my trunk once. Scary!
@@TaylorGoesFast baha the noise must have been alarming! FOr the longest time this car also had an unused driver cooling duct zip tied to the dash bar. One day I was rewatching some in-car in preparation, and saw the hose flopping around and thought "this is stupid, we havent used that duct in years. It needs to go". I paused the video, walked down to the car and cut it out =D
i appreciate the level of self awareness. Thats how you learn from mistakes!
I enjoyed the fact the roll cage appears to have mould on it
Adds structural support wdym
Has what on it?????
@@afooza3581 Mold.... mould is the UK spelling
Not cold tyres too late slowing down!! Made me smile bits rolling around on the floor!!
Front wheel drive cars are fun if you can get the front to go around the corner
Very late braking followed up by no attempt to make the turn accompanied by a shift that was very possibly distracting. Poor shifting is my menaces as splitting attention from the proper line to shifting is hampering my abilities! Time for an automatic transmission for me?
After the first lockup do you think the car could have turned at all if you released the brake? No judgement just curious of your thoughts.
I like the Voice Over for the voice of the mind right beforethe crashing.
I race asphalt sprint cars so I think that you need a much better seat(Butler), a Hans device, and tighten up your belts properly. Safety first.
Not to mention no balaclava....
That track really needs some gravel traps.
@Belgrave Wallace I've seen like 20 VIR crash videos of all kinds of years and cars and YT still keeps recommending me VIR crash videos! From this turn alone I've seen like 3-5 crash videos. This makes me want to download a mod of this track in Assetto Corsa and experience the crashes virtually lol.
I've not popped in on this video in a LONG time. VIR just released a documentary about themselves, and in it they stole parts of this video 😆 Some of these comments are funny though! I have since moved all my content over to @The.Daily.Racer. I still FWD, and I still hit stuff from time to time. Check it out and see if I learned to hold the steering wheel right 🤣
Yep, way late in the braking and down shifting zone.
The camera mount is broken
Lol "Victim 2: The Hero's pride"
That interior is grimy, it's all I could focus on the whole time...
everyone crashes there
Looks like plenty of grip, just not enough talent.
Looks like wheel lockup from braking which happens easier with less grip.
his driving rusty
First problem: calling ones' self "The Hero".
Drivers' excuses: Cold tires, "no track".
Actual cause: Ran out of talent, early on.
abs could have saved him
Abs has done more harm than good to me, personally. Tried to come around a bumpy corner while trail braking... Abs took the brakes right out from under me. Unplugged abs, stability control, and traction control right there in the parking lot. Tried the exact same thing and had no issue.
smh.. doesn't even know how to hold steering wheel correctly. cringe af
show some respect. she's doing her best.
racing is expensive and boring, it'll get especially tiring when things like this happen
just dont crash
just be rich
It's fun until the crash. then it gets boring and expensive real quick.
Hey Blair Deffenbaugh, do you have an email address at which we could contact you regarding this video? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible? (i.e. via email) :) Cheers, Felix
