      @@popinmo ive been weary about printing at low layer heights. ive never “tested” my prints (yet) so im essentially bullshitting you right now, but from what i understand you get better strength with taller layers (sacrificing detail of course, which is more noticeable on stippled/engraved style designs and maybe a problem for frames with intricate internal design). i stippled a popular stl myself and it came out looking like low poly oatmeal diarrhea until i printed it super fine, so im kind of unsure if i really want to test it beyond fitting the parts.

    For the 92FS, a version with a standard front picatinny rail would be great. Robocop is a must, and don't forget the one from "Predators." If anyone can design a giant add-on for the front of the 92, I'm betting on you.

    The Beretta 92/96 platform is puts a large amount of stress on the rails. It makes for the longest lasting handgun(92FS and later) according to military testing. But this makes steel rails necessary for successive mag dumps across thousands of rounds. A rail insert with carbon fiber nylon(or nicer engineering filaments) could make it similar in durability to the original. I wonder if the design will incorporate AVES rails that they will sell. That would be ideal in my opinion.

    • @thaBurninator

    • @DaedalusHelios
      @DaedalusHelios Před 2 lety

      @@defaulttarms9561 I don't expect PLA+ to tolerate as much successive firing as a steel frame can. The filament needs to be extremely high temp and strong at those temps for the same performance. Pins through rails and super high temp filament is the only way for similar performance. Or the use of polymer cased ammunition could also be used. It could reduce the temperature to one third that of regular ammunition. The USA uses it in the next gen rifles currently being manufactured.

    As a Beretta fan I have so many questions about the 92 frame. I'd love to have a polymer framed 92FS. How is the locking block situated? I wouldn't think that polymer is strong enough to work with the locking block. Is PLA+ strong enough for the slide rails or did someone create metal frame rails? Please keep us updated on this project. I'd love to see how it turns out. If it's successful I'll have to buy a printer and start learning how to use it. Ever since I shot a polymer framed Hi Power in South Africa I've dreamed that I could have a Beretta 92 with a polymer frame.

    The 26 grip is nice, because it's easier to conceal... and the longer barrel is nice, because it makes it more comfortable to carry IWB. The longer barrel reduces the feeling of the gun wanting to tip out of the person's belt when leaning forward. With smaller guns like the G26, P365, etc... and them having heavier grips, when a person leans forward at all, that weight makes it want to tip outward, which causes the muzzle do kinda dig into your lower abdomen there. A good belt can fix that, but even with a good belt, having a longer slide still makes it more comfortable and more stable. A lot of people that own a G43 or G43X actually carry them in G48 holsters, because it's more comfortable. I'm sure many people that carry a P365 do the same thing, carrying them in a P365xl holster.

Inversing the 19/26 idea also inverses the benefits, i.e. the 19/26 has a longer barrel for better velocities/accuracy etc. on a much more concealable frame accepting 26 mags. A 26/19 would just be worse ballistics on a much less concealable frame, you know?

    The 3D scene needs a single/double action capable frame. The double action glock stuff is SO over done and old news in 3D, time for something new. I've been printing the Beretta 92fs frame the last few days (got it from print2a's site). It definitely needs improvements before it can fire rounds since it's plastic and not metal. But it looks cool as a desk ornament. No idea where to begin making improvements to it, even the model screws up cura unless you disable "Union Overlapping Volumes". Without disabling that, cura decides you dont need a trigger hole or a mag well anymore and just fills them completely solid lol. Hopefully the mods can be done without increasing the width as thats a decent pro I like about the 92, and it just looks cool. I cant wait to have a printable 92 frame, I love the single action capabilities of beretta 92 and 1911, so the beretta 92 is a perfect frame to start with.

      I reshaped the grip to better fill my hand, the balance is really quite good with the short slide and midsize grip. I didn't understand the 19X when it first came out, and that's why I designed this in the first place really. But now I kinda understand the longer grip/shorter slide combos out there.

      And Beretta kits are frequently available for dirt cheap, that’s why someone designed frames for them.

      When designs are released, people frequently end up buying all the kits. There's nothing that we designers can do about people buying up kits and scalping them. That's why we generally don't release specifics about what kits are needed until things are formally released. We design frames for parts kits that are available, otherwise what would be the point for us to design them? Some kits, just by the fact that they're not in production anymore, are going to be limited in quantity. Nobody is making new police surplus FNS kits, for example. They sat on the market for YEARS for cheap until people designed frames for them.
      I'm sorry that you're slow on the draw to pick up kits when things are announced. The FNS kits disappeared for fair prices overnight after PSR did a video showing how cheap the builds can be. But you can still find them for a premium from unscrupulous sellers. Mac kits continue to be produced, you just have to pay attention to the manufacturers when they announce they're available. The XD frame designs are in the works both on DetDisp and AWCY. They'll be released when the designers decide to release them.
      Betas are generally open. Anyone can participate in them if they're involved in the community.
      It's weird how I can't CAD very well, yet so many other designs in the community are based off of my designs. And how many people that you are referencing right now got started designing things at all based on my work. Kinda weird in that way. You're definitely free to, you know, not print my designs. You may not like the aesthetics, but I do, and that's who I design for. Myself. The fact that thousands of other people like it as well and choose to print the work that I do for free for this community is a testament that maybe other people like the designs as well.
      Best of luck in the future. Maybe be less of a dick and maybe people will help you out, point you in the direction of betas, etc. As for me, I'll continue to design what I want for the kits that I want, because I don't do this for people like you :)
