    They are good precision tools. If they were more affordable they might sell more and increase brand loyalty. They are many more hobbyist woodworkers who can't justify the cost.

      @@flagguy30 The jig and router with bits will cost about the same as the Festool. But the jig and router are more versatile in your shop. The Festool packages are better for "job site" speed and precision. I think pretty much all of the Festool catalog is overpriced for tools that will just sit in a shop.

    Woodpeckers infomercial; stuff looks nice but the cost is just way too high for what it is. I have a friend that’s a machinist and he could knock out this stuff by hand quite quick a CNC mill even quicker so aside from material costs this stuff has a seemingly excessive mark up; don’t get me wrong I like quality but that can be balanced with newer production methods to get reliable tolerances every time for less and less money as tech keeps developing. I made a similar rod measure years ago using tube sections from rifle cleaning rods; I didn’t spend $40 on it including the machining time on the aluminum threaded stop blocks, which just shows a mass manufactured item nearly identical to that should be able to be sold much less expensively then theirs.

    Hmmm
    While there is no question that this tool (drill guide) is built with high quality materials and craftsmanship, it has an unjustifiable selling price. To see just how far off the beam the pricing really is consider the fact that a fairly high quality WEN 12" Drill Press 4214T can be had for about $275 which offers far more capabilities. Anyone claiming that this tool costs more to manufacture than the WEN is simply a liar... The bottom line here is that with all due respect to Woodpecker Tools they are selling as much hat as cattle. Though there is no question it is compelling hat...

  • @drouleau
    @drouleau Před 2 lety +1

    I always see people bitch and moan that stuff is made in China, but when a high quality and precision product is made in the U.S., they bitch and moan about the price. I realize some people can’t figure out that the cost of doing business (wages, benefits, insurance, taxes, needing to make a profit to stay in business, product development/engineers, tooling/equipment, building rent/mortgage, business loans, utilities, retaining skilled labor, consumables, materials, repair, maintenance, security, volume sold of certain products, marketing, etc.) is much higher in the U.S……therefore obviously driving the product costs up……but there’s a lot more to the overall cost of the product than just the price of the raw material. And for the “but gee, why does this cost $80 when they’re using $5 worth of aluminum” people, see what I wrote above. They don’t just magically pull numbers out of thin air and exclaim “I think this will be a good price to soak the consumers with”. If you can do it as good (or better) and for less money on the same scale of operation, have at it…..that’s the beauty of a free market and competition. You do sometimes get what you pay for…..not always, as for example we see with shitty appliances made in China that cost thousands of dollars and look like a million bucks, but last only a few years (or less) before they break and/or need expensive repair…..but sometimes.

    • @egv1557

    You only buy a good tool once - you buy throw-away tools many times and you get no joy out of them, nor can you sell them for anywhere close to what you paid for them new.
    I don't care what people say about hobbyists not being able to afford these tools: if you need it, you'll buy it - if not, you'll make do with something else. That's like saying Mercedes Benz are too expensive for regular drivers - yes, we all know that. Hobbyists can make their own tools because they generally have the time to do so - pro's generally do not. So the question is: do you actually need this tool or is it just another "nice to have" in your case? What I know is that I've yet to see another manufacturer making another toolset that is as impressive as this. I have never used them but they sure do look superb. As a hobbyist, I'd probably be too scared to use them in case I scratched them but I'm not going to slate them for being expensive. Plus, expensive stuff do go on sale too from time to time.
