No D4 on the last chord. Cello has 4 strings ;) - edit: I’m re-listening and really hear a D4. Might be a harmonic.
Last chord is also Gmaj7
Until when we send videos? A friend and I could do an 8 baguettes marimba video but we need to record it at the conservatory. Is it for this weekend? Thnx for the response :)

I want to record a part, but idk how to record a video of myself playing along with this. Can y'all help?
Hey my guy thanks for adding that blue line
She has that really fast vibrato that all of the old school Disney singers had in the 40s, that's part of where we get the melancholy vibes from.
This. I get a Fallout soundtrack vibe from her, too. Or a smoky, old jazz club.
Fast and steady vibratos are the most beautiful sounds to come out of a human. I’m so happy to have heard this
If I'm not mistaken, that style of singing is called "crooning"
That’s why I heard old disney vibe
A very lounge singer vibe
I love how she doesn't drown every note in vibrato. She has a much cleaner/old style of singing, and I love it.
Didn't notice how much singers these days like ariana (the only one k
I can recall at 1am) do that u til.you said that. Good point
I actually think her vibrato is quite continuous, but it's a very tight spin so it's not distracting. She's in "release" nearly the entire time but you only notice it when she's holding notes. Case in point, notice the very subtle vibrato on "neeever" at :50. Sorry if this sounds like word salad. Heck of a talent
Why would she drown every note in vibrato? That would be clearly stupid
@@GabriTell And yet an incredible number of singers do just that!
I mean she is using a lot of vibrato lol. It's just fast
I know it isn't a huge jump, but when she hits those top Bs they are so effortless and without a hint of slide. Just boom, there, and crystal clear. Gorgeous.
exactly my thoughts!!!
Yeah, it's called singing. Maybe the other singers could take some lessons from her.
@@jeffreygranger6913 ok
@@jeffreygranger6913 damn, who shoved a trombone up your ass? anyone opening their mouth and creating a pitch is singing. are you trying to infer *good* singing vs *bad* singing? because if so, you’re wrong again there, pal. plenty of beautiful singers slide their notes, some by stylistic choice, others because their cords simply don’t allow.
chill the fuck out, it’s easier to enjoy singing when there aren’t pricks like you blabbing inane ‘critiques’ in our ears.

It's crazy to see how much popularity she's gotten since this video. George Collier put us on before she was popular.
I wouldn't stop singing if I had this voice... heavenly.

Laufey is so amazing and I am addicted to her songs

You have no idea how much practice it takes to play chords this accurately on a fretless instrument...
Shout-out to those little circle stickers from Middle school!
Her voice and the bass both
Most of them are very common fingerings you learn through playing Bach but some of them are a little more unusual
Excellent playing
I do actually
Trust me…

Glad Laufey is getting more recognition, her combination of jazz and more modern indie/singer songwriter music is rather exquisite if I do say so myself
what is "modern indie/singer songwriter music" Just seems like Jazz.
@@anopirsten7565 vocal styling i guess. i do agree with alex though.
She has a much bigger voice than I was expecting, wow.
@@anopirsten7565 if you listen to some of her original music, you’ll hear how she finds a way to combine her love for jazz and more modern/contemporary music.
It’s not modern at all, it’s close to 20’s or 30’s style lyricism if anything
Now that I think about it, this may have been my first exposure to Laufey.
same, but tbh, a really good introduction to her!
This was the first song I heard Laufey sing and I’ve been slightly obsessed with her amazing talent ever since!

Dizzy was a true genius. 🕊
Yes he was . . . but this song was written in 1930 by Jimmy McHugh & Dorothy Fields - when Dizzy was 13.
@@MooPotPie Yes, I know that, but the Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Sitt & Sonny Rollins version is an absolute masterpiece and in my opinion the best recording of this piece. 😉✌️

Her voice is absolutely dreamy.
Laufey's an amazing singer. I love that chromatic movement she does at 0:32.
Check out her version of "I wish you love" for something similar.
Right? Can't get enough of her rendition
Yessss I wish you love is so good
In all honesty, I think that turnaround is the same one that's in the real book
Met somebody once who sounded like this. She was in a jazz combo and played bass. They would solo with their instruments and then with their voice, still wished I recorded it.

not just a heavenly voice but a terrific interpretation and feel as well....
As a musician, I really like this piece!
Also, since I create videos as well, I know how time consuming it can be to put that moving line on the score so people can follow. Cheers mate!
Yeah, it takes a long time. I normally add the start + end keyframes so that the bar starts on the left when the score flips pages and finishes on the final frame before repeating. Then I go through and manually keyframe the middle. It's a pain when the bars have different horizontal widths or there are lyrics like here.
@@GeorgeCollier Just like I thought you would do. Appreciate the efforts, your channel is amazing. Keep it up!
As a gamer, I agree. As a musician, I also agree.

Laufey fan here, the timbre of her voice is amazing!
0:26 the way she sings "Life can be so sweet" is literally my favorite thing ever. I Just get so melancholic...
From that G to the B dom is basically my favorite harmonic move of all time
It just gives me the chills each single time
the way i express that feeling is that it 'scratches just in the right brain spot'. like a sound orgasm
she's got such a classy voice and the pitch of the chords is on point. So talented
Her voice is just so rich, but so light on those clean high B's. I'm jealous of her voice but at the same time, I'm just as happy listening.
Her voice really gives me so much hope it’s unreal. Literal vocal serotonin.
Me: trying to figure out how there is a five-note chord when a cello has 4 strings 🤔🤔🤔
Edit: I’m just playing, the transcription is phenomenal.
overtone im assuming
The higher D wasn’t played, but maybe the transcriber heard it as an overtone or something. Maybe it was the only mistake in an otherwise perfect transcription
Pinned comment
Now the case in this video is as explained above, but I wanted to say it is indeed possible to make a chord sound like it has five notes. Usually it's done by splitting the chord in half, playing the lower notes first and the higher notes second. Sometimes you have to play two notes on the D string, including D string in both parts of the chord. For example, playing D, B and D in the first part and then F# and D in the second.
Sorry if I wasn't clear, english isn't my first language :D
@@aatoshovi I totally understand you, I break chords into 5+ notes occasionally when I play.

I’ve never heard a cello solo so beautiful. It really inspired me
It is contrabass, not cello. Contrabass & her voice are suitable for Jazz.
It's great I listened to this before she blew up!
She sounds so good, but I wouldn't say that's the most heavenly voice.
I love this song lol. My jazz choir sang this a year ago and everyone still says that this was their favorite song. Certified banger of a standard.

The fact she can sing so good while playing exceptionally is amazing

Wow, what a vocal range she has. Her beauty and her singing are a perfect match.
She has a crazy vocal range
Looks like the standard alto range to me. I don’t know if her range extends because this is my first time seeing her, but from this song alone it seems pretty standard
judging from her performance here i would put hear in the contralto range which goes from F3 to F5. This is known to be the rarest vocal range for women.
@@byfrax2371 after doing some further research, you are right. Sorry for my ignorance
I assumed alto, because she sounds like she has a similar vocal range as I do. And as such, I was always placed alto in chorus. But i have always been more confortable alternating between the higher (tenor) male parts and alto part. Can hit mezzo notes if i need to, but not the best as i am not trained. But I have now discovered that I am a contralto as well.
You learn something new every day. Thank you
@@ssimms8995 it's alright. I hope you advance in your singing!
