I took my Yamaha XT250 too far offroad...

  • A few times I found myself riding in the places I shouldn't really be riding based on my skills level and risk tolerance... This usually happens when I pass the Point of No Return and then I am forced to find a way out.
The Point of No Return, sometimes I also call it a "one way door", is some massive offroad obstacle that I can only pass in one direction. It can be some massive slipper curvy hiking path, where I can "slide-fall" downwards, but there is absolutely no way for me to climb back up.
Today I went through this Point of No Return just to find out that a bit later there is exactly the same one, but going the other way. I was approaching it from the wrong direction. Essentially, I was stuck there.
    I couldn't make it out...
Just kidding. I'm here to type this, so I managed somehow. Yamaha XT250 impressed me even more - I had not idea it could do what it did and, frankly, I had no idea I could do what I did there - but we got out!
    What a great bike!

Talk about the [trai] less traveled!
That's some hard enduro at easy-rider pace. I love it. Way to explore.
That stuff is the perfect case for a light dual sport. Unless they are superman, the GS rider would not be bringing their bike back without help.

Thank you for the great comment! When you mentioned "enduro", I thought of the places where I've been on my XT250 and I think that's the right word to describe those trails. The 'point of no return' was definitely more than just some dual sport single track.
      Thank you for watching!

Oh man, I know what you mean. I live in southern New Mexico and have taken my XT250 to places that even now give me pause. One time I ended up being pulled into a 5 foot deep giant rut with the bike completely up side down. Somehow I was able to drag it upright and back it out down slope. XT started right up and 2 hours later I was home. This bike is the closest thing a machine can be to a friend - always there for you.

Great words, my man! That's what I feel when I ride it - there is NO way I'm leaving it in the forest. Every other bike I had was just a bike... Yamaha XT250 feels like a good old friend who's always there and who you can rely on...

I don't usually plan to get into extremely hard trails. But when I end up "trapped" on some remote trails in the forest - I am SO happy that it's the Yamaha XT250 there with me! It has a way to calm me down: "Don't worry. I'll help get us out of here".

It's a male human condition, oh I wonder where does this trail leads to, it's like fully entertained by a camp fire for hours on end.

Great video and great bike! I have never gone on extreme trails, but after watching this video, it gives me more courage.
    Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad you liked the video! I started riding offroad last year, and this year I can easily go through extreme trails that would be impossible for me a year ago. And I think I'm just scratching the surface of what this bike can do. My balancing practice from the "warmup" video improved my skills a lot.
Thank you for watching and good to see you here again. Ride safely!

As a desert rider myself, I always keep an ironclad rule for myself; when I hit the halfway point on my water, I head back, no matter what. This could definitely save your life where I live. Love your video content, really thoughtful. I appreciate every one.

Having strict rules related to safety is very important. It's so easy to get carried away while riding. I didn't ride in a desert, but I know how easy it is to get dehydrated even just riding hard trails without water for a while. I plan to buy a larger hydration pack soon just in case.
I'm glad you like my videos - thank you for the comments!
      Ride safely!

Your videos are really enjoyable. Thank you. No bells no whistles, just a down to earth fella and his basic hard as nails dual sport.
Like one man and his dog just with a XT 250 and a forest!

I checked Yorkshire pictures - the architecture and the views are amazing! Once the kids are older - I want to travel overseas a bit more. Would love to explore Northern England.
      Best wishes from Montreal!

There is a reason why we ride. The sense of freedom to explore roads and hard-to-reach trails is amazing, and you don't need to have the latest and the most powerful bike to enjoy it. I first tried it on a tiny 125cc Honda Trail - and the experience just made me pause and rethink my approach to enjoying the adventures on 2 wheels.
Your 200cc Honda 'agricultural bike' should be amazing for that!
Thank you for the comment! Ride safely.

Awesome video. I ride a 2023 xt250 in the Arizona desert. Im always pushing myself and xt,but we always get home safe. Love that bike. Stay safe, my friend. Question, do you think the value need to be checked at 600 miles?

    • @SquareHelmet
      @SquareHelmet  Před 2 měsíci

I'm glad you liked the video!
I assume you mean valve check - honestly, I don't know that much. I just go by what's in the manual. I took it to the dealership at 600 miles and they did what was needed (I think they did the valve check). I think maybe the first valve check is important, but after that - I don't know. It feels so solid that it makes me think there will be nothing wrong with it if you skip it. But, again, I don't know enough to advise on this one.
I love riding this bike! I just stepped into the house after an amazing ride - I saw some new forest trail and it lead me to a stunning forest lake. Right before that I was riding Tenere 700 (a bike that I love). But Tenere wouldn't take me that far, while XT250 did...
Ride safely and thank you for watching!
