I have been riding bikes for a while I started off on a 70 then a 125 then I needed more power so the 250 but I might look at the enduro 350s with smoother power curve
I'm 5'7 and picked up a KTM 300 EXC after 20 years only riding street bikes and not dirt. Had zero issues and was a phenomenal bike

Stumbled on your channel today and you give lots of good info.I have ridden dirt bikes my whole life and most of bigger MX bikes are to much for me. I got a YZ250 2 stroke a few years ago for a woods bike and had to sell it.Way to much power and just hard to ride it all day.Great bike just crazy power.I also had a KDX200 2 stroke, these are still around and have great suspension and smooth power.
Ah, thanks for watching! Yeah, MX bikes are lots of fun out in the open, but I'm a big supporter of "slower" trail bikes if you're riding in tight woods, especially to beginners and older riders because you're less likely to crash from an accidental "whiskey throttle".
Crf250r is a great trail bike I can go anywhere a 230f could go and more, I'm very happy I bought a r over an f

Depends a lot on the terrain that you’re riding, in the part of Australia I live you would run out of legs quick on a 250, it’s all big open sandy and gravel tracks where a modern 450 with good suspension shines
You are correct in that it does depend on the terrain. I believe that the rider makes the biggest difference as far as the type of trail bike (beginner vs enduro, for example). Thanks for watching!
I'm 6'3" 295 lbs. The WR250R is the perfect bike for tall riders with more than enough power. It has a tall seat hight (and can be made taller with a taller seat and lowered pegs), fuel injected, it weights about the same as me, and it has a wide ratio gear box with six gears. It likes to be rung out at high rpms. It's absolute blast on the trail! And because it's street legal, I can ride to my local trails with it. I just bought some supermoto wheels for it so that I can play more on the street. I thought I needed two bikes to do everything I wanted. In reality, all I needed was the WR250R with two wheelsets and I get to save garage space!

Im a new rider i am also 5.7 could not decide on what size bike but i ended up getting a good deal on a 2022 kayo k2 230. It has done great i changed out the fron 13t to a 12t and getting ready to tune the carb. I have beat that bike up so far so good reliable and have not broken plastics yet but its been tossed around. Of course im not a bike snob and wanted something cheap to get started. I think its a great bike for a beginner as a beginner. It doesn't matter what bike you have they all have some kind of issue that is documented. But once i get good enough skills i will be looking at something nicer. Good luck everyone who is starting and do not give up it will click eventually.

I started riding back when I was 5 or 6 on a 90cc Yamaha, i moved to a ttr 125 later and now a kx250f motorcross bike. The motor cross bikes aren’t bad for trail riding sure it’s slightly unforgiving and you can’t have a inflated ego on it or it’ll punish you but I haven’t had a bad experience with MX bikes on trails
Yeah it's definitely possible. I've ridden quite a few MX/race bikes on the trails, it just depends on how motivated you are to ride a snappy/aggressive bike, especially if you're a beginner/novice. Thanks for watching!
I agree with much of this. I do believe the WR250F isn’t overwhelmingly powerful and good for a taller newer rider. I own a KX250X and the suspension is Uber plush and with the mild map it has very smooth linear power and won’t loop out unless of course you’re trying to. :-)
Yeah, I agree that the WR250F is fairly tame and some beginners would be fine in open areas or easy trails. I just don't like recommending it to beginner trail riders because it's more aggressive than a bike like the TTR230, making it a little harder to build your confidence.
BTW, that 125 XC for your son looks sweet! Nice trials bike, too :)
Thank you. That trials bike is torn down to the frame. The frame and some other parts are out for powder coat. That trials bike was Pat Smage’s practice bike from 2017.

I'm surprised the suspension is that much better than his '23 KTM. I rode a CRF250RX for a few minutes this summer and was impressed when I hit some chop and a big g-out at about 30 mph by accident.

My uncle has a 93 or 98 Kx125 where I live there aren't any of those bikes for sale so I will probably end up riding that Kx125 do you have any advice for me ?
Btw I am 5'9 and 18y I don't have any experience on big bikes and almost none on small bikes I used to ride a bit on a ktm 50sx when I was a kid

for eg: im 5 foot 3 14yrs and ride kx250f but want a lower geared bike so would and adult bike work better?
Yeah, that's a lot of bike, especially if you're new to dirt biking. At your size, a large wheel 125/140 would fit you better (or the KLX140 full size wheel model), but if you can handle the extra weight, a 230/250 trail bike would also be easier to ride than the KX250F.
i have a 2013 kx250f and im going to a crf250f. im 5,10 145ilbs i hope this is a good option
If you want a bike that's easier to ride, a lower seat height and less maintenance, the crf250f trail bike is a great option.
I see you didn't mention the Beta bike line . They have the RR & the RR RE . They have a little lower seat height , very good power and bottom end grunt . Also tgey can be licensed for the street .

I would go for the klx 300r from the early 2000s with a seat hight of 36” it’s also about 50 pounds lighter than the new klx 300r

Mostly single track. We've been off a long time and just getting back into it. Super impressed with the klx300, It's no powerhouse like my old 2-stroke 500 but it has plenty of power and handles extremely well. @@MotocrossHideout No, I have been riding and racing for decades, so I am past that phase. But I have seen beginners buy too much bike and ruin the experience for themselves, just as you say. They’d be better off buying less bike at first.
In fact, now that I think about it, I did this once myself, in 1973, I had been riding for awhile but I upgraded to a bike I wasn’t ready for. It was a bad experience.

i bought 450 crf 2008 for my first bike and i couldn’t be happier i learned everything on it and i wouldn’t rode anything below 450

My current favorite trail bike is the Beta 200 RR. Smooth strong power but not enough to get you in trouble.
Not a 4 stroke but I've had my eye on the Beta 200 since it was announced a few years ago. Add fuel injection and I think it could be my favorite 2 stroke trail bike.

It's a great bike to start on if it fits your height :) You should be able to touch the ground with a foot when sitting in the middle of the seat.
I started on RMZ250 and it’s awesome. Just have to learn clutch control when your climbing.
I’m looking at a 2013 rmz 250 as my first bike. I’m 6’0 160 lbs. do you recommend?
Is it possible to ride? Yes. Do I recommend it? No, because it's harder to learn on and stay in control if you've never ridden before, plus it's higher maintenance than a beginner trail bike.
It's very easy compared to some bikes and very scary compared to other bikes. Remember that the trail isn't like riding in your yard, and any of these bikes can body slam you. At 160# he's probably right. I weight 200 and it took me a while to get comfortable riding it over small obstructions and up hills.
I couldn't imagine anything better for beginner or a veteran then a CRF 300L.
Hey James, it's a great beginner bike if you need something street legal for dual purpose riding, which is why it's on my list of best beginner dual sport bikes.
It's noticeably heavier than the CRF250F, which is why I don't normally recommend it for strictly trail riding. The extra weight and DOT tires get more exhausting, but it's a very solid bike for all kinds of riding and is very easy to handle if you're not in tight and technical areas. Thanks for watching!

Honda CRF150R is the best trail bike for shorter riders imo
Besides a lower seat height, what makes it the best?
For a beginner I would probably recommend the CRF 150F instead of the R but that depends on the rider as well. If someone is used to riding Mtn bikes through the trails, racing, etc I would say the 150R depending on their size. But a true novice or shorter stature I go with something that fits their size better and the 150F has mellower power, softer suspension.
It all depends on the rider and I have started some out riding a smaller bike like a 70 or 110 even though it's way to small for their height but it helps to get them familiar with the control on a bike that isn't intimidating for being to big or powerful for them. Because they can put their feet down easier and it makes them a tad more comfortable.

Yep! For adults under 5'6" just starting out, they're typically the best choice. Not only are they safer, but it's more fun to ride a "slow bike" fast than riding a "fast bike" slow on the trails.

I don't recommend it to a first time rider because most people are faster and safer on a "slow bike" to start out on.
It's actually very sound advice, most small adults will never outride those bikes, if you start out on a slow bike eventually you'll be fast and when you upgrade to a more powerful bike your fundamentals are good, if I hadn't ridden my 250 for so long I wouldn't have good control over my 400 because it's got enough power to really get you in trouble on trails, things like Motocross bikes are insanely overkill on tight trails and are generally no faster.
