I cannot believe the omission of that time Luke and Ian teamed up and covered for each other despite knowing they weren't on the same side,, gotta be one of the most heinous (and also my favourite) acts of co-op shenanigans I've ever seen
Space buddies. Buddies in space.
That was peak chaos.
Space buddies transcends all, it’s in its own category
Lol what stream was that?
No that's hilarious co op
What are you talking about? That was great co-op. 🤣
Guys, how could you miss “not getting out of Ellen’s way” in Overcooked.
The ever famous “GET OUT OF MY WAY!” from Ellen as she flew around the whole kitchen because Luke wasn’t operating at maximum capacity is still one of my Xtra highlights.
I came here to say this 😂
You and me both 😁 @@JamieDancer
Do you have a link to that vid?
"None of you believe me because of my rage and passion!" -Andy during Among Us
"Many hands do Mike's work," is such a glorious pun that it surely makes it all worthwhile?
There's no "I" in "Team", but there is in "Mike".
@@tonyb6555 The fact that Mike's name contains not just an "I", but also an "M" and an "E" should tell you everything!
@robstuart8474
K...
Wait, you mean co-op doesn't stand for Constant Opposition?!
XD
I thought it was "coop". As in, you're cooped up with someone and can't get away from them.
You win my like with that comment, good friendly stranger on CZcams! 😂
/me thinks@@KingdomKey-ik4xkseems pretty sus. 😈
So this is just an opportunity to bring up past grievances with the team?
Also, let’s not forget the ultimate co-op ruining move - lying when you shouldn’t, like in the Westaway gambit.
"I've got a lot of problems with you people! And now you're gonna hear about it!"
The Westaway Gambit is a move so devious it's hard to understand. Especially by the person performing it.
I think Ellen is salty about Mike's playing style and came up with this list idea to air her grievances 😆
It's less a Gambit, and more of a Grifter (obtuse comic book joke).
Must be a belated Festivus episode.
"I said I was sorry! I'm not, but I said I was!" 😂
When 7 came up and you started talking about running ahead to get your friends killed, all I could think about was LEEEROOOOY JEEEENKIIINS!
There's also re-trolling, like in the Trine 5 stream when Mike left Luke trapped in a puzzle, Ellen freed him, but Luke refused to come out until Mike apologized.
The biggest co-op dick move in Among Us is being a crewmate who teams up to cover for an imposter because "space buddies." LUKE.
To this day it mystifies me that both of them thought “space buddies” was a strat that wouldn’t backfire
I assumed the joke was that they knew it would backfire eventually :)
the sheer audacity of having the creator of the "luke gambit" whereby one decides to out oneself as the imposter, when you aren't, for... reasons, be the one complaining about other people acting sus when they aren't the imposter...
Any Lego Game
Peace was never an option. We have to kill each other to test our newfound immortality
But also steal their coins. Cant let them have more coins than you
The riches are MINE
Arguing over who plays as the jedi and who plays the blaster character/droid was a common occurrence when I was young
@@nathaniellevesque2782 it really is.
8:40 I saw amoung us and immediately thought of that one time Luke announced himself as the imposter
And then wasn't
I was hoping it would be when Luke and Ian were working together and would refuse to betray each other. I know it pissed others off, but I loved it.
The westaway gambit
To be fair I'm this kind of player as well. I like to play my own personal game.
The fact that most cuts are to scenes of you guys failing each other, and not just random gameplay scenes, makes this golden
Even when the slower player doesn't die when being left behind, it really sucks when someone just rushes ahead of the group. They just solve the dungeon, kill every enemy, hoard the loot and impatiently bounce at the door to the boss room - unless there is no door and they just trigger the cutscene and pull everyone into it.
This can only be redeemed by having everyone else co-op properly, right before the boss is defeated, and kick the rusher from the mission, leaving him without the important reward. There really is no better feeling.
Co op trolling, especially among friends is fine if just done for a little laugh. What gets annoying are the friends/people who don't know when to stop the bit and it crosses from friendly fun to annoyance. I'm talking to you Eric!
DbD is always a tough, contextual one. If no one's doing repairs, you're losing and in order to rescue a survivor, another survivor needs to not repair. And when you rescue someone from the hook, they're actually closer to death, which is distastrous if the killer is nearby and you can't properly defend the rescuee.
Then again, it's *usually* because the other survivors couldn't be bothered with you in the first place. Solo queue life...
How on Earth did the Among Us segment go by with no mention of the Westaway Gambit???
Or as others have mentioned, The Space Buddies(tm)
9:40 A classic Higton moment in Among Us, poor guy.
AKA '7 moves that make it a No-op game'...
I play a lot of survival builders. Sometimes I play with friends. I've come to dread the sudden "Oh, oh no..." in voice that inevitably comes when one of them has wandered off and manages to get into a Situation. Then it comes down to the question: "Am I showing up to give backup, to revive, or to retrieve gear off the corpse?"
There's a reason I only played Don't Starve Together ONCE with my friends. What's so hard about Not. Wandering. Off??
Even worse with survival builders, when the "Oh no" comes while they're in base....
@@p4vlichenk0this is why I do t play co-op, except I'm the one who wanders off lmao
Rushing ahead like an idiot. I'm still picking over loot back here, checking my corners, exploring branches, talking to NPCs, etc. x10 for when they rush ahead of the HEALER. You want to live? You go at my place.
It started snowing this morning but thankfully I won't have to put out any salt because OX already dropped this video.
I am assuming there are about 90 extra minutes of Ellen raging about Overcooked that were cut in edit because it would have needed to have been 90% bleeped out.
We need a video of 7 coop mechanics that should be in EVERY coop game.
First entry: hugging. Never gets old.
Among Us.
Mike not opening the map even once to see which tasks he had to do and where to find them.
He was always an impostor, even when not being one.
That and his infamous "corpse blindness"
The worst a most infuriating though is when someone on your team pushes you just as you're about to shoot an enemy. So you fluff your shot just because your teammate wasn't paying attention (or didn't care) and now the enemy player is free to kill you both.
Alternatively when you're in cover and a teammate pushes you out of cover, into the line of fire, just so they can take your spot.
I've recently watched the GOTY 21 video where Jane mentions hitmans Berlin clubs bathrooms and my brain decided it would be great to see 7 best and 7 worst bathrooms in video games😅😅 now seeing you are on the Co op topic, and seeing we missed the biggest most dangerous friendship co op challenge this year, the XMAS charades, how about a oxtra vs oxbox charades where the winnersget to do the best video game bathrooms and the losers have to 'thoroughly' report the 7 worst ones😭😭🤣🤣😍😍
I remember the Sea of Thieves playthrough Ellen is talking about. Mike did pull his weight in that. Ellen and Andy were just assuming Mike was goofing off and treated him like he wasn't doing anything the whole time. Ellen even tried to gaslight him about saying she told him to take cargo to the pier when she and Andy actually told him to put it on the deck.
I remember watching that but quit halfway because of the negativity those 2 were giving Mike. I enjoyed watching the Sea of Thieves streams with Mike & Andy because they play well off each other but I think adding Ellen ruined the vibe for me. And now she's complaining about Mike here? That's low. 😑
Playing Borderlands(one of them, anyway, I'm not sure) with my nephew, I go into ffyl, get one enemy down to where I can kill him for a second wind... Nephew steals the kill out from under me. Could I, since we're in the same room, communicate better that "hey, *I* need the kill on this guy"? Sure. Is there a chance he didn't know I was down? Maybe, but we're on the same TV screen and if we're in co-op, there's no reason for a "no screen-peeking" rule, I knew when he was downed.
what I got from this is that we need more of the oxboxtra gang playing Among Us
An excellent episode! I’m surprised Luke didn’t mention Space Buddies that lie for impostors or the Westaway Gambit. I may have recently rewatched some of the Among Us livestreams. 🙂
I rewatch them regularly.
All perspectives.
In a row.
@@ArDeeMee I appreciate this dedication.
How I wish they'd do new one
@@ArDeeMeeso glad I am not the only one
I have a big one!! I like to check every crevice of every area in every game for any treasure or gear or collectibles. My hubby likes to rush ahead to the action. There's a lot of games where I have to just follow him around and not look for supplies or he'll get killed because I'm not up there reviving him and backing him up. 😒 How can he live with himself, knowing he didn't do any scavenging?
don't play Warframe then (from a fellow scavenger that looks like they aren't pulling their weight because they aren't rushing through the map like a bull)
@@bumblebeebattlegolemas a Warframe player, I solve this by being both the loot goblin and the unga bunga. Anything is theoretically solvable if you bring enough weapons to turn Deimos into a parking lot.
I'm actually the exact same only I'm the husband and sometimes if it's a single player game we're doing together, I'll look next to me and my wife is actually asleep🤣🤣🤣
What about greedily taking all the resources. Healing items, ammo, weapons, etc.
If you can trade things freely amongst yourselves, that's honestly fine to hoard everything imo, otherwise a simple "Hey, anybody need this heal before I grab it?" is fine. At least gives people a chance to look before adding it to your hoard.
Separate duvets *is* a good shout though
Man, after seeing among us again i really miss seeing those 8 player streams of it. Was always hell of a lot of fun. Hope Oxbox & Friends may get together again sometime to play a coop game like that again.
I remember playing Trine with a group of friends. One of them refused to acknowledge it was a co-op game, and would try to beat everyone to the exit, despite every level being designed to work as a co-op experience and him not understanding that you can't beat any level solo.
Nothing ruined friendships more than Nintendo 64 four player multiplayer. It was so infamous it became a marketing gimmick here in the states.
If i remember, the OG Super Smash Bros TV ad revolved around it.
@@N.BR500same with The New Tetris.
What a wonderful video! 😂❤ Although there were two entries missing - Space Buddies (buddies in space!) and Ellen running the kitchen in Overcooked.
Those Among Us videos are great. I periodically rewatch them because they are so damn funny.
A video that includes a bunch of funny clips of oxboxtra co-op shenanigans? Yes please! 🤣
More random oxboxtra clips and complications from days gone by please!!
Kids today will never know the pain of losing a round of Mortal Kombat that you should have won, bc player 2 unexpectedly snatched the cord to your wired controller, and made an unhindered comeback as you scrambled to plug your controller back in. Good times
those were the days
When violence was at its peak 😂
I may have sucked at fatalities in the game but I was very very good at them irl for that reason
@@MarshyoftheBlobs 😂😂😂
Yeah, but that isn't co-op. The guy that unplugged your controller so he could snatch up a power-up or health pack would be the equivalent.
While it was fun in retrospect, I think that if you’re playing a co-op mode like in Doom (1993), you shouldn’t decide to run headfirst into any room, grab all the supplies, then run into the next room only to die almost immediately to either the demons in the level, traps, or your rocket launcher’s splash damage, which in turn causes you to lose all your stuff and forces the other team members to help you get better firepower while lacking the resources to do so.
Yep, my friend did this to me.
Gunners and archers in Monster hunter games causing melee players (you) flinch by shooting through you. The amount times ive gotten wopped or stomped cause I couldnt react or heal is innumerable.
Battlefield having a mechanic that tells you if a medic is nearby, usually ignoring you, was always my biggest source of fustration. Bad enough I am dead and not being revived, but to know that the guy who could revive me is also 0 meters away running through my corpse is the last straw.
Ah, the good ol' Medick.
Nothing quite like having someone explain to you a co-op puzzle, and then that person refuses to listen to anything you say because they want to solve it by themselves. Even when they told you the bit they are fiddling with is useless because the bit before that part needs to be solved first, but they refuse to listen to you when you say it.
Co-op could also be short hand for Counter-Operative, which was a GREAT mode in Perfect Dark lol
Oof, yeah. I was that friend who played _Among Us_ as the kicking boy for the rest of the players.
As a rule, though, when I know what tasks need to happen I'm very serious about getting it done. I have brothers who are trolls and I intend to get a good grade in cooperation, a thing that is normal to want and possible to achieve.
I had a few friends come over back in the day to play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles when it originally came out. I was usually stuck with the stupid chalice as we walked through the stage and one of my friends was notorious for chasing monsters. So he would run out of the safe circle to kill the enemy all alone then run back yelling "heal me, heal me" because the miasma almost killed him. I was the magic caster so I always had the heals. I quit chasing him after awhile and would let him run to his death. Eventually he got out of the habit.
I remember playing The Chaos Engine on the Amiga 500 in two player, with my mate John and he would always run ahead to get the weapon upgrades leaving me with a puny starter gun while he had a multi shot rocket launcher!
my babysitters son was so competitive that I never realised Chaos Engine was a cooperative game 😂
@@paultapping9510🤣
Idle rune farming in Elden Ring is the worst. People who summon me and just stand there expecting me to kill things for them have a special place in hell.
Honestly, Luke and Mike's coop gameplay are the most fun and hilarious especially when they are paired with either Ellen or Andy, the more competitive ones of the crew, just to wind them up.
a notable omission of both the westaway gambit AND space buddies there, luke
As someone who is also named Mike...I feel personally attacked by the Mike slander.
Killing Floor 2: When the one glory hound runs off from the group, dies within seconds, and blames the group that they ran away from. More specifically; the team’s medic.
You only have yourself to blame, Rog. I’m not healing you!
Well done not mentioning leory Jenkins for the last one.
11:11 honestly expected a Mom Can't Cook plug lol
"Friends are there, to help you off of a meat hook"
Heck, Orson's Farm really took a turn in the latter episodes!
Honestly, as the one who is always disbelieved, I feel it's everyone else mistrusting me when I'm telling the truth that ruins friendship, not the other way around.
I have never been more glad to have no friends with which to play co-op games. Unless I count stare contests with my cat, which never work because she gets distracted.
One of the more aggravating co-op behaviors I've encountered is when someone just doesn't take time to understand how to get something out a side mission or quest.
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for example, you can get certain things if you go about a parallel quest in a certain way. Instead, many online players will just bum rush the target without understanding the procedure. It's super unhelpful when you're to get the drop and don't have someone to regularly work with.
Come on now, this wasn't suggested by a commentator was it?
It was just a way for you all to vent your frustration at admittedly "mainly Luke." In your co-op streams.
I'm having flashbacks to the infamous "Overcooked Incident."😂
Yeah, this had a suspicious number of previous clips.
One that's pushed my limit a couple of times is when someone tries a little *too* hard to be the team leader.
Nothing wrong with a little organization and guidance, and sometimes, you need someone who can take charge. But if all you're doing is bossing your friends around, and shooting down all of their ideas...you may find you have fewer friends to play with.
Here's an old classic: Ninja looting. Few things in co-op games will piss people off more than working together to take down a big bad enemy, and then volunteering yourself to take the awesome loot.
And here I thought this list is about co-op 'features' that are inevitably used to troll others. (e.g. revive mechanics, ability to pick others up, emotes, platform controls, and etc)
This feels less like a list video and more like a chance for Outside Xtra and Xbox to vent about the things their co-workers have done that annoyed them. And if it helps them I'm all for it.
I once tried to do a Co-op move in a Mortal Kombat game...
It ruined the Friendship.
Yes, Mortal Kombat does seem to have a good way of doing that. lol
@@NehnBellanaris I really annoyed my cousin in mortal kombat. I was not very good at doing proper combos or fatalities, but I learned I was very good as spamming moves the first time I ever tried playing against her. I took her, a much more skilled Mortal Kombat player down multiple times in rapid succession with my spamming and quickly learned she did not like losing...
I would add another to this list; friends/co-op-ers who get too impassioned while we were supposed to be having a nice, relaxing time!
I've been at gaming events and whenever there's a multiplayer set-up, a lot of us just want to have a go, but there's always one or two who take it way to intensely, even seriously, and it just ruins the fun for the others!
Less a move more game design but in Baldurs gate dark alliance in co-op you had separate gold totals so one player tended to get much more than the other which combined with the experience being split 60-40 meant one player often ended up levelling faster and getting better than the other
5:20 - That penguin double-faceplant made me laugh much harder than it should've.
I feel like there's a companion video to this. Each member tell a story where they felt betrayed by the other. I mean, it might be the last video on the channel. 😂
I like how item #6 is legitimately just, "Playing Among Us."
When they talk about running ahead, all I could think of was "LEROOOOOOYY....JYENKYINS"!!!!!
the worst one of them all is, you buying a game to play exclusively co-op and the others either bugger off without a word playing a other game or advance solo because they have more free time and you a stuck there either alone or behind.
I'm really enjoying how the OXBOXTRA crew managed to turn airing out their grievances with each other into a legitimate list video.
I am APPALLED at the omission of the greatest betrayal in the history of this channel:
The Space Buddies.
Wow raiding failures that make everyone rage, Pets/animals interrupting, getting spawn camped by "friends", shoved off ledges, friendly fire, rage quits, and people who die and immediately do something else not paying attention to the the fact they've revived, etc..... There's a lot of potential here lol.
I love that “my health bar is right there, everyone” quip 😂 you can taste the salt in that line
My brother and always had a hard time getting past the first few levels of Battletoads because of how tempting it was to be the loving snot out of each other. Especially the second level. We'd basically just permanently turn ourselves into bells and launch back and forth trying to crush each other.
The fact that it includes footage of the OX team playing only makes it more special. 😂
i'mma be honest, the best fun i've ever had playing portal 2 co-op wasn't when we were both trying to move things along, it was when we were both trying to constantly out-troll the other.
1:25 Wow, good job Ellen on channelling rage filled crazy eyes. Absolutely chilling, please don't hurt me.
Some Beat-em-Ups have friendly fire; in that regard, the mere presence of another player scales up the number of enemies. If one of the players decides not to cooperate...
Ahhh, this List was like a glorious walk down OxBoxTra (& Friends) Coop Memory Lane. Ahh the hilarity! 😂
"I was born with a mistrustful face!" 😂
Co-op survival games like Minecraft and Don't Starve Together
two things happen with those:
when you die and drop all your stuff and somebody else comes by and grabs it and either lies they stole your stuff or outright refuses to give back what they took
or
when you and your friend(s) agree to share resources and even have a communal storage area yet one person hoards ALL the supplies and lies about it only revealing just the shear amount they were hoarding from everybody when they get killed and all their stuff drops
I love the excuse to call out one another for past experiences. 🤣
It's better than co-op games that force you to go against your partner like in A Way Out. The betrayal resentment is so strong, that it’s referenced in Hazelight Studio’s next game, It Takes Two.
Agree with the communication one. In BG3 I got hit with my friend's ice storm spell because this was the one time she didn't mention she was doing an aoe. I got annoyed that I got a lot of damage then even more annoyed because when I tried to hit another person (because she'd killed everyone in my reach) I fell prone on the ice :/
So many times my brother and I will have attacked the same guy and one of us wasted an attack or movement and then we're both annoyed at each other for not communicating it, it's oddly one of the things I'm enjoying about bg3 though, the frustrating miscommunications that happen once in a while for some reason.
Oh I definitely agree. It was fun to pretend to be salty about it still hours later.
"Well at least they didn't hit me with an ice storm!"
"I SAID IT WAS SORRY!"@@koryhill271
"What do you think...." Eye Daggers Intensify
The one that springs to mind is when you’re playing operation with another person and that other person is really incompetent or won’t listen to your advice but keeps doing whatever he wants and insisting he is right and we are playing operation on a real patient and now the patient is either gonna wake up worse off than when they went under the knife or is gonna die. That’s the worst co-op. Sometimes it’s not even just friction between different surgeons as their egos inevitably get the better of them. Sometimes the anaesthetist is the ahole and probably gonna kill someone just to prove a point. This is fine :)
5:25 for some reason this made me laugh so hard 🤣🤣
Nothing will ever be as hilarious as Halo 1&2 Blood Gulch "Odd Ball". Get the Odd Ball and run to a Wall of the Valley. When they look at your screen, they just see Valley Wall. Keep moving and it becomes absolutely hilarious. Watching your screen only hurts them as they try to find you.
This should of been saved for the Festivus airing of grievances.
Wow I am glad the people I normally play co-op with aren't trolls. Well one is kinda troll but likes to troll randos. XD My older brother and I play Portal 2's co-op story. Neither of us are trolls, so we had good fun solving puzzles.
I really love the video!
I've suffered all of these experiences at least once lol
side note:
not sure if I'm just blind and missing it but, I think you guys missed the card for number four (was about skill gaps between players)
I thought I was the only one who noticed that
One of the best lists in a while. Good show.
Why isn't Trine here ? I died laughing while Luke was sulking!
I’m so glad I found your channel again
I remember playing little big planet 1 main missions and me and my cousin were playing. He kept slapping my character, and then finally after awhile he stopped. Then, after hours of playing, we were on an elevator, and he unleaded a devastating friendship ending slap off of an elevator.
