Welcome back to Crying In My Car, a podcast for teachers! Join our hosts Devin Siebold and James Yon as they consider changing their careers to become pro gamers. Is posting on instagram a real job? Of course it is! And apparently colleges are starting to catch on by giving social media influencers scholarships. They also found out this week that private schools are finally starting to become more obtainable for families in Florida, but is that even a good thing?
You know, when we were kids video games were a lot simpler, but we've come a long way from cheating by picking Bo Jackson in Tecmo bowl. When you think about it, the gaming industry has grown almost enough to be bigger than the movie industry, so why aren't we encouraging students from pursuing a career in pro gaming?
Being an influencer is the newest and best form of marketing today, and people are starting to catch on. They are now apparently giving scholarships to influencers at Western Government University to study how to become a better influencer. Seriously, where was this when we were going to college!?
This week we have some great news for our listeners in Florida! Governor DeSantis passed a new bill that's going to award $8,000 to anyone who wants to put their kids into private schools! This is great news for parents, almost a little too great, what's the catch here? Tune in to find out more!

Special education protections that are mandated in public schools are not always given by private schools. This can be a huge disadvantage for choosing a private school over a public school.

Where I live in PA all of the public schools are required to provide their busses for the private schools to use. So the rich kids ride by on our busses but you can tell it’s not ours because they’re all dressed in uniform.
This has led to overcrowding on the public busses because of how many have been taken from our fleet for the 6 private schools where the kids get a seat to themselves each.

Catholic high schools in California are definitely tied to state standards as far as curriculum goes (often exceeding them) to meet our own graduation requirements to meet UC Certification to be counted towards UC admissions. While we do have required Religion/Theology courses and do approach education from a Catholic perspective, we welcome students of all faith traditions and have several teachers who are not Catholic. But we also do not take any funds from the state (like the $8,000 your governor has done)

The voucher system here in Ohio has made it possible for my daughter to go to a private Christian school. Both her mom and I don't want her in public school. We want her to get the best education possible and this Christian school is one of the best school's in Ohio, including public schools.

I disagree about college. Most degrees are worthless. You can gain the same skills with an apprenticeship and not spend tens of thousands of dollars. Mr. Beast didn't get a degree in social media. He studied the platform and what other top creators were doing. There is a channel just dedicated to teaching social media by interviewing top creators. It's called collin and samir.
