    Beautiful! This is one of my favorite Mozart arias to sing and I love the variations.

    I'm actually intrigued on this piece! You play wonderfully! Even though I've only played bassoon for a year and a half but I'll give it a try.

    Fantastic!
    Out of curiosity, how are you obtaining such a clear, resonant micing of your instrument?

    • @smalysbassoon
      @smalysbassoon  Před 3 lety +2

      In this recording, I used a Sony PCM D50 portable recorder at 8 feet distance. I think I've put it quite high that time (slighly below the bell opening)

    Just curiosity: do you adjust reeds with Mr. Rechtman system?

    • @smalysbassoon
      @smalysbassoon  Před 4 lety +1

      Not by now but I might consider applying this system if I find it useful. I have heard very good things about it but haven't read the method so far

    • @german.ml93

      @@smalysbassoon It is a different approach to reed making that looks for a style of reed very similar to yours, which seems to be very easy to play. That's why I thought that you were using that system.

      @smalysbassoon  Před 4 lety +2

      @@german.ml93 I use reeds of medium hardness with a round throat. They need more airstream and steadier support but tend to project pretty well

      @@smalysbassoon Wow. Your style of playing is so natural that I thought you were using very easy reeds!

      @@chengong1401 I don't think I deserve so much praise but thanks a lot! and I am very pleased that you enjoy the music. By the way, double tonguing it's easier than one might think. Start learning double tonguing in the middle register, the open F is just perfect to start with :)

    Just curious, why did you never use tenor clef?

    • @smalysbassoon
      @smalysbassoon  Před 5 lety +10

      Strictly speaking, changing clefs is not that necessary if you don't get over top Bb. Moreover, it makes things more messy and some passages become more difficult to read. Matter of taste, of course
