a Rida' is any article of clothing that is placed on the shoulders ~ Ibn Hajar, in 'Fath al-Bari'. It is more commonly known as a Taylasan which is a shawl-like garment worn about the shoulders, or the head and shoulders. 'The Prophet {Salallahu alayhi waSalim} used to veil his face with his Rida' on some occassions and leave it loose on others' ~ Shaykh Al-Nabahani, in 'Wasa'il al-Wusul'. Following the Sunna in dress and appearance is part of Sha'a'ir al-Islam (banners of islam)
