  • @LordHengun
    @LordHengun Před 3 lety +13

    I just completed this one, and for my money, it's OK. Obviously it looks and sounds INCREDIBLE - and I do mean that; I find it hard to believe that the game was made by 12 people - but I'm having a hard time seeing myself playing it again, at least for a good while. Since there are no classes and fairly little customization and no real specialization in terms of guns/armor, I have a feeling most characters will end up looking and playing very similarly. Honestly, it reminds me more of Bastion (where you can customize your loadout to a point, but it's still the same character fundamentally) than it does Diablo or Borderlands, and it feels kind of awkwardly stuck between run-and-gun circle strafing goodness and a more tactical game where positioning and cover is more important. I'd prefer if it leaned more heavily in either direction. I think it's definitely worth the money, so long as you know what you're getting yourself into. If nothing else, just to inhabit this amazing world for a few hours is worth the price of admission - I cannot stress enough how well realized the world is and what an impressive achievement it as a first release from a new studio.

      how was the story?

    • @LordHengun
      @LordHengun Před 3 lety +3

      @@alex4alexn Also totally serviceable. The plot itself works well enough to drive you through the world. The voice acting and some of the cutscenes in the main missions are WAY better than they have any right to be, though! As I said, presentation-wise, this game knocks it out of the park. The side missions have this Banjo Kazooie-style nonsense speak which gets super grating super fast, but you can skip past it easily enough.

    • @desolane900
      @desolane900 Před 3 lety

      I'd argue that the armor/weaponry objectively allows enough customizing/specializing for the intended route of basic ARPG spec'ing. Armor tends to hold attributes and skill buffs, which is arguably a form of customization, though unfortunately can't be upgraded/painted like the weapons can. The player can get new weapon paintjobs ala Borderlands, and new shirts, at least as far as I know, could be more things to find like tattoos and such but honestly don't know, just assuming because it'd make sense.
      The skill/"class" specification could arguably be whichever skills you funnel more points into, ie health and stability vs tactical and battery focus, etc. You'll find some people that focused on being more tanky, people that use augments heavily, people that pushed harder for reloads and aiming. While it doesn't have Inquisitor Martyr or WoW style classes, I'd say the freedom of skill focus and the freedom of player agency pertaining to combat style, it gets the job done adequately.

    • @LordHengun
      @LordHengun Před 3 lety +2

      @@desolane900 I think we're pretty much in agreement here. The only thing I'd point out is that most of the augments have pretty huge cooldowns, so even if you put points into energy it's not viable to rely on them "heavily", and since you can only have two augs you can't really build a spell rotation.
      I'd need to go back and replay it to make sure, though, these are just my thoughts after one playthrough. Thinking about it, it might be wrong to say "most characters will end up looking and playing very similarly" and perhaps something like "there's nothing stopping you from falling back into your default play style" is a better way to phrase it (and I think that's what you're saying as well). I have a tendency to go for the path of least resistance unless I'm forced to adapt to a new play style, like using a different deck combo in Moster Train or playing a different class in Grim Dawn. I didn't feel like this game gave me enough incentive to experiment, and the different damage types, resistances and skill bonuses didn't matter enough to think about. I used the same weapon from like lvl 11 to the end, and there was only once where I had to even consider that I might be using the wrong damage type... But then I got past the road block and it was smooth sailing after that.

    12 people and on UnReal engine. It has rough patches that a month 1 patch will fix but god is this game incredible. The multiple camera angles and the odd ways combat is handled as an ARPG add enough fanciness without being overtly alien, aside from the tactical controller button. And of course, the worldbuilding. Good lord, the worldbuilding. You can get LOST in the codex. Such a good game. The DLC, if any is planned to come out, will be riddled with potential.

    Pretty nice. It reminds me of FF7 with the heavily prerendered background with effects layered on top and separate character animation. They do a pretty good job of blending it.
    The player has a constant light on it. Given the atomospherics everywhere else, it is pretty noticeable. They may be able to get away with some multiply or saturation maps.
    Enemies and NPCs also have the constant light, but that is not as noticeable since you are trying to pick them out from the environment. Static NPCs though (if there were any) would likely pop too much.
    The gunplay is good, but what would put it up would be to thin the vapor trails and add larger hit sparks and sounds. If they had different sounds for wall vs enemy hit it would be more visceral. A very thin vapor trail could explain why a round missed. As it is they explain the accuracy mechanic very well.

    Wish we saw some more facets, but there might not be any. As much as I love this setting, if this combat centric level clearing is all that's going on here, it's not enough.

    Looks great on here, but Steam reviews mention game-breaking bugs and other issues.

    if you like playing games that involve paranoia then you should definitely play the game PARANOIA... it was a table top roleplaying game but i think they made it into a computer game too.. honestly its one of the most fun and funny games ive ever played.. i used to do it sometimes when playing dnd in a group of dnders and to be honest i always looked forward to it more than dnd and i love dnd

    I love your vidoes but you gotta jack up the dialogue audio. I always have to jack up the sound and then get blasted when your voice comes in. Record them separately, and jack up those dialogue scenes!
