That her benefactor never told anyone that he helped her is incredible. I imagine that he felt very proud of Carol. I wonder how many others he helped.
Had a fried that use to deliver milk to her home (yes that far back). Said she was the most unpretentious and kindest person you could imagine. Treated him with respect and he was just a working guy.
Carol Burnett is an absolute LEGEND.
What a class act she is. I grew up to her comedy. A scandal free true American icon.

I ran into her once at the CBS building in L.A., at the entrance. She was being held up by a security guard who was very young and didn't recognize her. This was few years after her show had wrapped. Anyway, she was so incredibly nice to the security guard while he detained her at the front desk. I just looked at her and smiled as I was buzzed into the building and she smiled back. What a nice lady.
It was her Grandma! My Grandma always did the same thing by putting a stamp on an envelope but still dropping it off in the box herself!
70 years later and she and her show is still the funniest skit variety show ever to air.
It’s hard to think of anybody today that is universally loved by EVERYBODY, but Carol Burnett may be just that person.

There will never be another. An absolute legend, national treasure, whatever you want to call her. Decent, kind, intelligent, and funny as hell. They broke the mold with her.
In our house, the world would stop when her show would air...I miss laughing at the TV.
