- Mostly we wanted to continue celebrating the release of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie coming up, but we also thought we'd go ahead and knock out another one of those animated movies you guys don't think we do enough of. The result? Everything Wrong With TMNT, the 2007 animated ninja turtles film. It's pretty much as sinful as the live-action ones.

honestly out of all the TMNT remakes this was my favourite, the deffinitly looked less terrifying than the Michael Bay version

for anyone wondering why this absolute gem of a movie never got a sequel: imagi, the studio that animated this, also did astroboy (2009). it was such a failure in the box office that they pretty much had to close everything to save themselves from losing even more money. kinda sucks seeing as how the animation team and the staff overall really knew the material they had and honored it. they could've made a marvel sized killing out of these movies if astroboy didn't cause them to close their doors. imagi definitely seemed to respect tmnt's roots and the following films after this could have been hella good
I didn’t think Astro Boy was a horrible movie, not great but entertaining and okay to watch once. It did have trouble deciding who the target audience was. It was really dark at some points, and really childish at some points.
I actually didn't mind this movie when it came out since it was based on the 2003 series which is what I grew up with. From what I understand, it was closer to the original comics than the old series. It was also more violent, with Baxter losing more body parts as the series progressed and some incidental villains actually died. Also, Bishop: better expensive-suit villain than Smith from Matrix.
If it wasn't for 4kids the series would have been absolutely amazing. But 4kids screws up everything that should be cool.

while that dosnt makes sense, i watched a cartoon called the devil is a part timer. in that they talk in another language for a bit, with no sub titles. you have to guess what they are talking about. so i say speaking in a language i can understand, even if it dosnt makes sense is better then the opposite. also he did use some device to awaken them, could of made it so they could speak english.

The sad part is that constant arguing is considered character development.
In real life, I consider whiny-ass people to be shallow, boring, hardly worth my time most of the time. Despite being a cartoon, that attitude carries over to Raphael, too.
Raph is in red. Seriously. Red is a design/marketer's dream color. Its a color of passion, anger and fury, aggression, etc. So its easy to assign those traits to a character with visual cues like that. Leo and Donnie's personalities can be completely interchangeable based on whatever incarnation of turtles is watched. Michelangelo is kinda trademarked for being a big kid. Raph is the Wolverine of the brothers for no other reason than he is in red.

This movie was nice. There was just way too much brother drama and not enough focus on Donnie and Mikey. Kinda feels like they were underdeveloped characters. Don't get me wrong, Leo and Raph are actually my two favourites, but Don and Mike just felt like side characters.

Ehh, the plot is typical of Hollywood today, but at least it wasn't "This is the story of how the Turtles became the Turtles" and "Let's fight Shredder one more time." The movie took a real chance with some unknown monsters to fight, and in that respect, was far closer to the original comic than any movie so far.
Oh, and part of the mythos is that April is being taught martial arts by the Turtles. Hence, she knows how to fight, which makes sense given the sheer amount of trouble she gets into. They even allude to it in the movie, with her practicing with a Bokken. Not a masterpiece, but a fun movie nonetheless, and a decent Turtles movie.

I really loved this movie as a kid. I think my favorite part would have been the fight against Leo and Raph.

Another thing I noticed. When they mention the final monster. It was believed that the little gremlin thing in the restaurant was the final monster right after the stone general said it should not be found, but then Casey and April are being chased by another monster during the finale. Not only that, but the little gremlin was unexplainably captured somehow. I don't remember seeing anyone catching that thing. Especially when it was thought to be the 13th monster.
Plus they had 3000 years to roam the earth, and suddenly they're all together in new york.

Why in the actual fuck do Raphael and Leonardo have the same conflict every movie. Can't the turtles just, you know, be the turtles and fight crime and shredder without the Real Turtlewives of New York City drama.
Conflict is what gives a team depth. Without it, it would just be extremely one dimensional.
I understand there being conflict within the team, I'm just annoyed how the conflict in this team is always he same. It always seem to be 'Raphael values fighting and winning while Leonardo values teamwork and morals. They disagree but eventually end up working as a team again'
SingleLeg The rivalry has existed since the comics. I'm guessing you grew up on the 1987 cartoon, and didn't even know the comic existed until much later.
I know about the comics (and read some but didnt grow up during that time) and the rivalry is important, I just think its a bit lazy to still be relying on that rivalry as the focal point of inner team conflict.

Never understood Leo's problem with the Nightwatcher. A batman-like guy who doesn't seem to be hurting anyone more than we ever did is probably bad, but a psychopath who's oiginal plan was to bludgeon criminals to death with sports equipment is totally fine. Also, the only reason they trusted Casey in the first place was because Raph liked him, but now this other vigilante that Raphael want them to trust shows up, and they all hate him. There's no difference.

You know what I hate the most about this movie? The 2003 cartoon - in season 4 I believe but I haven't watched it in a while - set up the Leo goes of by himself for training story line a lot better. He'd failed his family and was falling apart, to the point that he almost kills Splinter. And he doesn't come back until his family is in danger and he was welcomed. This move had a perfect model to go off of and managed to completely f it up by doing the exact opposite.
I remember watching this movie. I swear I do. But I did not remember a single second of what I saw. What a horrible total recall.

I have such a weird relationship with this movie like, it's so terrible and I know it's terrible but it's the movie that brought me back to TMNT so I can't help but at least have some sort of admiration for it.

Haha, that's really funny, because that's exactly how I feel about this movie. I used to love TMNT and then I kind of stopped, but then I watched this movie and I KNOW it's bad, but after I watched it I started getting back into the series/franchise again. And since I can watch it on the internet, every once and a while I'll just watch it again, because I really like it even though I know there are a lot of problems with it. Like you said, it's weird.

They tried to base it off the then current comics from 2001 to 2009, but those comics weren't very good in terms of release...it was cancelled in 2010. Now we have the ones by is a from 2011 onward. And there are great.

My bad. In volume four of the comics I mentioned, the foot clan was under attack from stone Aztec warriors....and Karzai sought out the turtles for help. I guess the producers wanted to reference that.
The rooftop fight between Raph and Leo is .THE. reason TMNT fans need to watch this movie!
The animation is fantastic. It's so well choreographed, and the tension is amazing. It's the first time (on film) the dichotomy between Raph and Leo was truly depicted and the hurt it created between them.
This is still my favorite TMNT movie ever. Yes, it has its clitches and weird story points, but they just make it even greater!

y'know, for a movie title "rise of the silver surfer", he didn't get that much screentime, nor was he a villain-so i never got that "rise of the villain" vibe. should have called it rise of galactus maybe. but then again he was just a space cloud, not a giant armored man which was VERY disappointing
however I do STRONGLY prefer this cast as opposed to the upcoming reboot. Johnny and Sue are supposed to be biological siblings, yet one of them is BLACK?! how does that make sense?
