Well Tony, this was an excellent and very comprehensive review and as you say it is very intuitive to use, even without exploring the user manual. I did find myself screaming at the screen at one point saying "set the relative function Tony" and as is by magic you then set the relative function. The HV probe was extremely impressive and adds an additional dimension to the meters features. As always Tony this was a very enjoyable video put across in a very informative and engaging way.

Really enjoyed this Fluke Friday the 287 looks like a super multimeter. I have never seen a kit and case like this, as you said it is for the military, but what a selection of accessories. I am really impressed with the data logging function in fact I am impressed with all the functions and the ease of use. I use an 87MKV for servicing which I love and I am looking for a second handheld meter with more functionality and I think the 287 is perfect for me carrying out radio servicing. Haha I had to laugh your caution when high voltage testing as I also don't like high voltages as a kid I used to play around with tube TVs quite carelessly I might add and as you can imagine I had my share of high voltage DC electric shocks. 🤪 Yep the one hand rule is the way to go. Thanks for another great video and I'm looking forward to the next Fluke Friday best regards from the UK.

Do make sure to check the super cap inside the meter for leakage though since they are notorious for that.
I had to replace those in both my 189 and 289, both started to show signs of leakage.

Alleen die zekeringen kosten al €10, om over al die kabels enz maar te zwijgen :-) De extension kabels zijn erg handig, ik gebruik ze ook, je kan zo snel wisselen van probe naar een alligator clip of een haak clip bijvoorbeeld, ze zijn alleen wel wat lang uiteraard, nice score!

If it doesn't keep the settings when the batteries are removed. You will need to replace the internal battery. The 289 is known for having a battery that leaks and damage the internal circuit. I switched mine to a super capacitor not long ago.

It’s a nice meter, I have the 289, but really it’s user friendliness is not that great. I mean, 3 button presses for a REL in Ohms mode is not very convenient.
For me; my 189 will be my favorite meter always.

Ok- first off, great video, i liked it, i have the 289, its a great meter, second, great find, i still want a 287. 3rd, what happened to the 170 series, i have the 175 & 179 if you need a loan of them, the 177 is elusive at the mo, I also have the 189, that you can borrow to make a video, just let me know

Why is the AN/GSM-437 better than the AN/USM-486A
Which meter is in that kit ?
I have the Fluke 289, is an increible multimeter, the only downside is the display, pour quality.
I have 3 units of the vintage Fluke 27FM the most robust multimeter made for Fluke, my 3 units comes with the high voltage probes.
