  • An old VHS of a BBC 'Horizon' film about a group of remarkable scientists and technologists from Bangalore, south India, trying their best to help poor villagers live better lives. Poor quality but a historical document...

Seeing this and india of 2022, a lot has changed in 40 years. You should definitely do an updated documentary. Almost all village have brick House now and they are using phones and have television and bank account. That's a development.

Well this is the picture of typica rural India 40 yrs ago.i come from one such village in Karnataka I can understand relate their problems better than those scientists. That time an average indian used to earn 4 rupees per day,and 1 kg rice used to cost 2.and a half rupees. Now an average indian will earn 400 rupees per day and 1 kg. Rice will cost 40 rupees. Now almost every child is attending school and getting free mid day meal .90 percent of villages drinking water problem is solved.when India,s population was 350 million there was food shortage, people used to die out of hunger. Now there are 1400 million people.people are not dying because of shortage of food.bullock corts are almost dis appearing. Our present p.m. mr modi aims to provide electricity, cooking gas,and toilet to every rural house hold in the country.he is almost successful.i am not telling rural India doesn,t have problem, but we are slowly but surely solving those problem.but what british wanted to happen to free india that did not happen.

Rural India feeds not only india but also the world since ancient times through agricultural products.

Beautiful documentary. It saddens me to say that the problems of the poor in India are still not a high priority. And even in the cases where some progress has been made in addressing these problems, the solutions don't seem to give sustainability enough weight.

U seem to be ignorant of the progress the country has made in eradication of poverty and helping the poor to lift their standards of living in the last couple of decades or so. We are much much better in today's times than what this video portrays . The village mentioned here (Pura) has 24 hours running electricity and water (except for few interruptions in summer/ monsoons, etc) and 4G internet connection too, and also is well connected to major cities such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and rest of India by state of the art concretized national highways and of course, railways.
Several companies have set up industries too in this village such as renewable energy, automobiles and machinery equipment etc.
Not just village alone, but COUNTLESS such villages across India have seen stories of total transformation from backwardness to prosperity.
