This is one of the greatest docs I have ever seen on the subject. If Cannon didn't feel the need to go big, it would have been around much longer. They should have continued making low budget films with small, constant profits instead of trying to compete with the big boys.
And they should have left Superman to the big studios

I ask you this. What would you have done?
I don't mean only you spicifically but each and every "you" , out there.
Everyone can see where they went wrong. Does anyone want to take a stab at what would have worked?
I see the situation they were in and we can all see that they did not get big, without thinking big and taking chances.
They were driven by a dream! A passion! It's not that simple, to have a personality that gets them to a special place and then say, "well, that's some of what we wanted. Let's stop and play it safe.
It's just not the "American Way". Capitalism and being in such a high position of continued success, can cloud the judgement of the most prudent individual.
Cannon flew too close to the sun but they are still being talked about today!
It's a fascinating story. A story that could use a dramatic film of it's own.
Just to tell the tale in a smilar way to how Cannon would have told it.
The documentaries I've seen on Cannon, have been great but I think this is a story that should be told, The Cannon Way!!
On a larger than life, big Screen. With a red carpet event, similar to what we saw at the finale.

@@Pocketrocket-pj1usCannon was never financially sound, they were always running off presales and leveraging debt. They would have failed even if they hadn't tried to expand. You can only bullshit the banks for so long.
Watch Farewell Mr Cinema after this. Seeing him at his peak and then at his end is an amazing experience.
Thanks for posting these documentaries. In many ways these guys were more attuned to what people wanted to see than most of Hollywood.

Golan's phone conversation at 24:00 is so interesting. I was trying to figure out who he was talking to? I'm assuming some kind of agent. The dude on the other line is such a greasy salesman and reminds me a lot of Donald Trump. It's hilarious when he is selling him on the Chuck Norris script "Killing, Shooting, MAIMING!!"

Not only is this a fascinating look at cannon in the 80s but it’s also a fascinating look at film making in general and the state of Hollywood at that time. Listening to everybody speak during that lunch just shows how fake and full of shit executives/producers in Hollywood are. To be fair though, I didn’t get that feeling from Aaron spelling. Lol wouldn’t they be a little embarrassed giving that type of lunch though to all these big wigs lol?
@@qed100 Lolol an absolute spectacle, no doubt 😂 😂. That doc you sent was so good! I honestly do enjoy yours moreso though because with yours, the viewer is right there at cannon. You feel like you’re actually there and a part of the day to day. Such an excellent doc. I was wondering, do you know whatever ended up happening to the raw footage? I’m sure like most things it probably got discarded or if it was filmed on video, it probably got taped over. Was it filmed in 16mm or video? Was there anything that you filmed that you thought was fantastic but it just didn’t fit in the timeframe of your doc? Any hilarious stories? You should write a book about your cannon adventures!
@@markus5862 Hello both Marks! The film was shot on 16mm by BBC cameraman Nigel Walters. We used almost everything so I'm sorry to say there is no box of unseen stuff in a cupboard anywhere. I'm with Christopher Reeve in regards to the disconnect between producers, film makers, the final product and actors. Relating to Street Smart and Superman. As an actor, I'm sure someone like Reeve would have known, if you short change a movie, whether Superman or Street Smart, such an action will inevitably show on the screen, that could well leave moviegoers and Superman fans, perhaps feeling cheated out of their money, as well as leaving the performance of the actors, perhaps less believable, as a result of the lack of money to create the reality of the character they're playing. It stuck out like a sore thumb in Superman 2, with the change in director, the magic just wasn't there in the performance of the actors. Cannon are no different.

Menachem seemed to genuinely love cinema. I give him credit for that. I like early Chuck Norris' movies. I don't really like any of the trash he did with Cannon. Just my opinion. I forgive Menachem for it..Norris I blame for the direction he wanted to go in...almost away from martial arts to action and politics.
I only remember them for cutting corners and trying to bring movies in on the cheap side. The awful Superman IV comes to mind. Cheap movie making at its worst!
