Good video. I’d have toasted the spices and added the vinegar as they were starting to burn. Also for as the rice only, a couple of bay leaves and red chilli 🌶️ in the jar really add to the appearance.

If your eyes water put a peg on your nose , but don’t let your neighbours see you . I peeled 100 crates of large onions when I was 14 and sold them to restaurants

It brought all the smells and memories of my childhood Ivan, my grandmother used to pickle onions and red cabbage in old fashioned glass sweet jars at Christmas and I used to love helping her if my eyes could survive peeling the onions........It never seemed to bother my grandmother though. lol

I get a 5kg sack of pickling onions from my local farm shop around this time every year and use the same method as you to pickle them😊
They are so much better than shop bought and make great gifts for Christmas.

I would definitely give this a try I love a pickle with my chips can you grow shallots from seed or do you have to buy the bulbs ? I am newbie to gardening and in London its like a £1.50 per pickle so this would save me a lot of money

What is best vinegar for onion pickles
I find either as good Normally malt but my fav is white Thank you
been waiting for this one i thought it would be with white vinegar glad i waited thanks for sharing much appreciated doing this tomorrow. on another note still not getting the ripe tomatoes like you mine are the money maker ones not as many they are coming but all green also spring onions small bulbs planted the silver onions just started to bulb up still small just started the gardening this year your blogs have helped in so many ways its a slow process but worth hanging in there its helped a lot with a recent mini stroke keep up the good work thanks for your dedication chris in north Lincolnshire
