Beena President and the “State of The Fountain Pen Nation” Address

Beena and V’Sign have long been major players in the fountain pen market in India. Even those who did not have any direct knowledge about the brands would have used them, as they have been acting as trusted OEMs for a brand that was once ubiquitous. As a matter of fact, some of the most popular offerings in the market could be traced back to Beena, for which like true OEM manufacturers, they have never claimed credit! But things are changing now.
Hero Motwani is the second generation at the helm of Beena, who over the last couple of years, is passing on the reigns to the third generation, in the form of Nikhil Motwani. The V’Sign brand has been created, and the entity is steadily working towards carving out a niche for its brands. And how!
It would not be an exaggeration to state that Beena and V’Sign pens are hugely popular in the fountain pen fraternity, especially as providers of solid writing instruments at very easy price points. Their popularity can be gauged from the fact that in every Pen Show that they attend, their counter is hogged by a crowd of aficionados, and more often than not, their instruments are sold out well before the end of the show! The Chennai Pen Show was no exception!
I had to wait ages for a chance to sneak in through the crowd of eager buyers before I could strike up a conversation for this video.
The bomb that they exploded in the Show was a brand-new Piston filler - the Beena President. This elegantly crafted fountain pen has everything going for it. It is a superb writer, the ink flow is tantalizingly wet, the weight and girth are just right for my hand, the resin is tactile to the touch and the golden highlights make it look elegant to put things mildly. Considering that it is a piston filler, with a show window and a superb golden nib to boot, it is priced reasonably - though when compared to other Beena and V’Sign offerings it is in a higher price bracket. Is there are conscious move to go up the pricing ladder to attract better returns? Now that would be another move in the right direction, one feels.

Nikhil Motwani ji and Hero Motwani ji are wonderful persons. Their factory is in my neighbourhood and I met them twice. Real fantastic experience. V’sign (Beena) pens are a pleasure to use. I have their Forte, glider, Fiorella and a few more pens.
