Beautiful bike. Shimano 600 is renowned for being absolutely bulletproof, relatively lightweight and easy to service. If yours is from the early 80's, it was either a model available from the mid 70's or was just using the iconic 600 hardware.
Also you mentioned the hoods, don't get OEM. They haven't been manufactured in close to 40 years, they have all degraded and that's why yours ripped. Diacompe non-aero hoods (cables coming out of the top) fit very snuggly. Use alcohol or soapy water to fit them on. The tighter the fit the better. I'm not sure if they're available in natural gum colour, but this is the type I used: Dia-Compe-Cane-Creek-Standard-Non-Aero
As for the shoe straps, if they rip, remove the pedals. The metal will bend as soon as you ride it. If you're comfortable with it, you could get a cheap manual riveting tool and some rivets, drill out the original rivet on the strap and buy some new thick leather in pretty much any colour. If you do go with black or coloured, DONT WEAR WHITE SHOES until the strap is broken in or you will stain your shoes. It sounds like a lot of work but it's not too bad. I also added some leather strips and sewed them to the two strips of metal at the very front of the shoe cup of the pedal, so they don't mark my shoes. It was standard on my pedals but it's fine without them. Very easy craft project.
Update: Your bike has right-hand brakes! I noticed the cable from the calliper on the front comes from the right side, meaning the shimano 600 brakes you have are somewhat rare, as they were made for right-hand front brakes like in the UK. I don't know where else in the world uses that. I'm from the UK and my shimano 600 set is on a '76 Soma Competition with left-hand front brakes, the cable goes straight down without crossing the head tube. It took a long time to get used to. You have your cabling crossing the head tube to put it on the 'correct' side which is pretty standard. Just thought it was interesting!

I was looking around for transparent brake cable housing and I got a bunch of results for clear. I believe it might be the terminology you're using because it took me a bit to find "brake cable housing" when I was looking for what it was called.

Shimano 600 was the best at that time and shifting is all about getting used to it. Shifting is a plus if you need to shift several cogs at a time, it will do it and with index shifters is only one cog at a time.
@@1a2b3c4. is it okay to shift multiple gears at the same time? I do it accidentally at times and I don't know if it's ok for the chain given it'll be very loose or tight quickly

My road bike is from 70es only 10 speed, my handle brakes are from a brand "universal" and I found replacement rubber Universal 77, CX hoods for only 27 euros
Beautiful bike! I have a 90’s vintage cross project USA bianchi, wish my bike was as spotless and shiny as yours. Sadly it’s all dinged up from racing cyclocross, but it’s still really pretty, like vintage Bianchi frames are.
I nicked 2 parts of the original Bianchi sticker and it's impossible to find online to buy :( I actually made my own in Illustrator and was going to source it but it would just be a cut out VS the original Bianchi sticker which is part protector and has the logo printed onto the transparent sticker. Anyway, it makes me sad because they were stupid mistakes but it's also a bike that's lived and being used and I love love love my bike
@@GadgetsGearCoffee surprisingly my bikes bianchi stickers are fully intact, unlike all the other stickers which are sorta peeled off or covered in dirt.
The bike seems so fun to ride 😍
It's smooth, when it's not on crappy terrain which is 98% of my bike riding lol

Enjoyed your video! I also have a Bianchi that I really, really love. Mine's a Pisa minivelo and it already has some dings as I got it second hand. It's so pretty (or handsome? who knows) and I also don't want to put fenders and a rear rack on it but the rains in a tropical country do give you pause -- and muddy backs! lol.
oh if I were out biking in wetter conditions more often, I would put one on it. And I've actually... added a bike rack and a cute back on the back since, I'm sad about it, especially cuz I was considering a Kickstarter back wheel clip on e-assist motor which I no longer can do, but also, it's kind of nice lol
I made sure to get a very stylish one so aesthetically I'm not upset (it took a WHILE to find a nice one, silver rear racks are very much the minority to black)
the Pisa minivelo looks adorable, I'm not even a big human but I feel I'd snap the bike in 2 haha
@@GadgetsGearCoffee I'm a smol person which is why I looked at minivelos. I really wanted a randonneur type bike but that's not really happening hahaha.

A couple small additions I added to my own bike:
- Brass ferrules (These go on the cable housing ends and look really nice)
- Leather chain stay protector
I'm the opposite of you, I like having fenders, rear rack, bottle holder etc. but still yours looks gorgeous!
ya, I definitely opted for looks over functionality, I plead guilty! 😂 but if I went on longer rides, I would probably change my mind (or get another bike hehe). The leather chain stay protector though, that's interesting. Which did you get? a stick on one?
@@GadgetsGearCoffee yes, it’s a stick-on one from Velobitz. They also have a gold vinyl one and several aluminum and chrome ones! Bike is still being built so haven’t had the chance to test it yet

Have you thought about getting wider tires like 25 or 28 mm? Would absorb more road vibration but maybe look not as cool.

I am, looked at the suntour one a few times but never bit the bullet. Altho not sure how much it would help for the hands at the handlebar tho. And I'd be more scared to leave it parked for a few hours when I'm out and about downtown or something
