  • Restored a 1966 15ft Springbok aluminum boat I bought for $850 w/ trailer. It took about a month and a half. I worked on it 3-4 times a week for 3-4 hours at a time. It was leaking when i purchased it so i sealed every rivet and seam on both sides of the boat ( jb weld & 5200). Wood was rotted on seats and transom so they were replaced, Carpeted the seats, stripped and painted both side of the boat. No power tools were used other than a drill for transom screws. Hand sanded everything, cut all wood with hand saw, and used a wire brush to polish the whole boat.

I was just gifted an almost 60 year old aqua swan & trailer that had been collecting leaves in a driveway for long years. Looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me to get it into that kind of shape but your video does offer some hope of what could be, thanks.

Had one of these little boats when i lived at home. The 14ft. is miles ahead of a 12 footer when it comes to "stability" in rough water.Never once did it ever come close to being "swamped" and i felt completely safe in all water conditions.A bit "underpowered" with a "Johnson 6hp" but hey my grandfather bought the motor new so i couldn't complain..:):).

Beautiful job. Looks great. The transom should last a little while, but it really should be coated with something.

One of the only boat videos that had music that matches the video. The guy below me doesn’t seem to agree. Lol. Nice boat. :)

Nice! I wanna fix up my old boat too, its a Starcraft Jet 15. And nice music too, usually people just play whatever they have, but at least that one sounded good.

Very nice looking and done project. I am watching for a good deal on a boat. I am moving back to my home state of Texas from Cali. Retired From military.
I am planning on passing time fishing and DO PLAN ON GETTING a boat when I get back as a project. I have been watching a lot of JON BOATS on craigs list and Most of them for sale used they are asking more then what a new one costs...
To bad so many people think just because they added some wood or a motor they have to try to make to much of a profit over what the original cost was...
I see a lot new they are around 800 bucks and a trailer can be got for around 200 or so and they are in the asking range of the same for a 10/20 year old boat... You got a great deal on yours..

On your next restoration simply use cold water sandblasting . The results will be much better , much faster and much more thorough . Just make sure the water is very cold , add ice to your water for an added bonus .

Videos Dope and that transom should hold up for a few years if you treated it correctly.

Nice job, but not sure the transom wood is going to weather that well over time.

+Robert Muckle Keep the boat covered when not in use. Also you will have to keep a good coat of finish on all wood parts. I did a restoration job a few years ago on my Starcraft... still looks good.

    • @victorcastle1840

It will weather all right if it is marine plywood and sealed good with a marine grade paint or finish.

When you took off the seats were there any Styrofoams inside? If so, where did you get yours if you replaced it?
    Awesome vid by the way.
