1966 15ft. Springbok aluminum boat restoration
zhlédnutí 101KPřed 9 lety
Restored a 1966 15ft Springbok aluminum boat I bought for $850 w/ trailer. It took about a month and a half. I worked on it 3-4 times a week for 3-4 hours at a time. It was leaking when i purchased it so i sealed every rivet and seam on both sides of the boat ( jb weld & 5200). Wood was rotted on seats and transom so they were replaced, Carpeted the seats, stripped and painted both side of the ...

The high score on the machine was 60 points. I beat it with a 61 (5 balls in rotation) then a few games later a new record and personal best score of 76 points (6 balls in rotation). 76 isn't the highest score but high enough to keep the record for a while.

First time boating to the may river sand bar with my kaboat back in april. First with nobody on it and then when everyone shows up to party.
Obvious question: Did it leak after the restoration? Is it still not lieaking 9 years later? Thanks
Love it
On your next restoration simply use cold water sandblasting . The results will be much better , much faster and much more thorough . Just make sure the water is very cold , add ice to your water for an added bonus .
Looks good!
As a watcher \I really wish the music would stop , not needed . If you want more viewers to watch , listen . that's why you get thumbs down.
Guys why not thumb up for this guy... it's my winter project for my 12 " lol lol...
I should have said thank you!! Good video.....
Whats 5200???
3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 - For Boats and RVs - White - 1/10 Gallon Cartridge $16.00 from Amazon
my dad has a 18 foot springbog and put sides of aluminum all around with suports to hold it up ,can hit waves 3foot and no water splashes in.your boat is a cool boat ,i myself would be interested in purchasing if the price was right.
I have a 1959 16’ heavy plated Springbok aluminum boat that I may restore (if not I'll sell it). It has been in storage for years but is in good shape. Key is to id/fix any leaks and, if possible, replace rubber gunnel border. Noteleaks are moderate. Can you please contact me at spcampbell@sympatico.ca? I would appreciate learning more aboug JB Weld, 5200, etc
Shut that effn music off!!!,
Very nice looking and done project. I am watching for a good deal on a boat. I am moving back to my home state of Texas from Cali. Retired From military. I am planning on passing time fishing and DO PLAN ON GETTING a boat when I get back as a project. I have been watching a lot of JON BOATS on craigs list and Most of them for sale used they are asking more then what a new one costs... To bad so many people think just because they added some wood or a motor they have to try to make to much of a profit over what the original cost was... I see a lot new they are around 800 bucks and a trailer can be got for around 200 or so and they are in the asking range of the same for a 10/20 year old boat... You got a great deal on yours..
That was a great video! Who the music by? I just got gifted a 1971 Sea Star 14’ deep V aluminum boat and trailer that I would love to restore!! Does anybody out there have any info on this boat? I can’t find anything!! Someone said it was made in Finland! 🎣🎣🎣
Nice to see the old boats saved to fish another day!
Great job groovy tune
One of the only boat videos that had music that matches the video. The guy below me doesn’t seem to agree. Lol. Nice boat. :)
Looks great!
👍🏻working on a 14 sea nymph
Had to mute, but loved the video. I have an old 14' SeaNymph top restore and looking for ideas
Good music and great work on that boat!
i did not need to see this but could not turn it off because of the funky jams! thanks for stepping out side the box
When you took off the seats were there any Styrofoams inside? If so, where did you get yours if you replaced it? Awesome vid by the way.
How did your J&B hold up on the bottom
nice job and nice video
Thank you for sharing this video. It is very informative. You did a good job with the painting.
Had to mute so I could watch the video
bead/soda/sand blast the bottom!
Nice came out great and love the song!
Alot of work,,,,,,
hahaha love the song Xd
Had one of these little boats when i lived at home. The 14ft. is miles ahead of a 12 footer when it comes to "stability" in rough water.Never once did it ever come close to being "swamped" and i felt completely safe in all water conditions.A bit "underpowered" with a "Johnson 6hp" but hey my grandfather bought the motor new so i couldn't complain..:):).
that's not the best Vine
I was just gifted an almost 60 year old aqua swan & trailer that had been collecting leaves in a driveway for long years. Looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me to get it into that kind of shape but your video does offer some hope of what could be, thanks.
crevispeeker i also just got an aqua swan would love to compare notes
Great video. I'm working on a '69 17-ft Starcraft and have been documenting it. I hope to make a video similar to your.
Beautiful job. Looks great. The transom should last a little while, but it really should be coated with something.
Nice! I wanna fix up my old boat too, its a Starcraft Jet 15. And nice music too, usually people just play whatever they have, but at least that one sounded good.
What are your speeds with the 8hp and kaboat?
I made a layout deck for mine. Love my KaBoat.
Videos Dope and that transom should hold up for a few years if you treated it correctly.
Nice job, but not sure the transom wood is going to weather that well over time.
+Robert Muckle Keep the boat covered when not in use. Also you will have to keep a good coat of finish on all wood parts. I did a restoration job a few years ago on my Starcraft... still looks good.
It will weather all right if it is marine plywood and sealed good with a marine grade paint or finish.
Bullshit that not real
do you think 8hp can push a 16' kaboat with two guys and dive gear? also do you think it would be stable enough when getting in and out of the boat while diving?
I've had 3 people on my boat and it worked fine. As far as getting in and out of the boat with drive gear, that I dont know. Its stable but climbing in and out with gear on while in deep water would be tough.
One he'll of a gangsta!
yeah I have to inflate it in the shade so it doesn't loose air pressure when it hits the cool water. And some times I splash water on the sides cause its hot when im about to sit on it. But its not a big issue
Great vid
my 8hp I think is under powered for my 16ft. but I believe the 16ft has 4 chambers and larger diameter tubes so a 15hp motor would be perfect for mine.
How would your boat handle a 15hp would it be to unstable and flip. I have a 14ft kaboat with a 6hp and its not stable.
I take mine on the may river or to dufuskie island. its great on these rivers off Hilton head
Yeah.... Nice Vid, looks dope! The black Spec Op kaboat has a nice look to it. I just put one of those black foam pads down. I know what you mean... I wish It was a hard/ ridged bottom, but it flys, because it is so light. Im always lolling for thing to upgrade or add on to it. Let me Know if you come up with any ideas!
