Rode recently released the Wireless Go 2 a new update version of the popular wireless Go series. There are many new enhancements and features most notably it is now a dual-channel setup and comes with 2 transmitters for dual-channel audio. They have increased the range to 200 M and it even has built-in audio recording backups. In this video, I go over all the features and do some audio tests with the new Rode Wireless Go II connected to the GoPro Hero 9 Black and Media Mod.

#Rode #WirelessGo2 #Review - Jak na to + styl
THUMBS UP for sure! Thank you sir, for being the ONLY PERSON on planet Earth to show us how to connect it to a GoPro (Media Mod). I've searched for hours and hours for that short few seconds at 04:34. All the literature only mentions connections to laptops, computers, iPhones, and Android. The word "GoPro" is NEVER uttered as if it's a classified secret.
THANKS, I salute you!
This video is indeed very informative. The accessories make this a top choice. Thank you for all your consistent product reviews.
Shawn that's amazing that Rode released a second version to the wireless go, and the fact that you can get huge distance now without losing interference is a big plus, thanks again for posting as always great video and great work.
this was very helpful showing how it can be used in different settings and options. the fact the clip is also a cold shoe is amazing!
Just bought this Go ii today, and your video quickly helped me sort out what it can do... and how to do it. Thanks!
This dude has every solution of my motovlog and action cam setup!! 💙🔥
Thanks . Great review. I was thinking of the 1 but will definitely push the boat out and get the 2 👍
DJI's mic is more worth the money in this case! For one the simple charging pod just makes it not only portable but super functional as well! Then the mic itself just works incredibly even at a far distance!
Fair play, that is an impressive set up. Good review too.
Thanks for showing how the receiver connects to the cold shoe. I searched far and wide to answer such a simple question.
Wow, talk about in-depth instruction. Super helpful. So many options and you hit many of them. Thank you.
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely LOVE your videos. Thanks for the review. Off to RODE
Your review was very helpful. Thanks for a job well done.
Very nice. I’m definitely considering doing some additional narration in my videos this year. It might be something to consider.
Wonderful review! I was about to get the original version because bloggers recommended it. Well, after reading the amazon reviews, its safe to say, I am glad I held off. Glad you did a review on the Version 2, I am getting one now for my Hero 9 media set up!
Do you need a TRS to TRRS for this set up? I'm thinking about this combo.
Thanks for this, was already thinking to do this. get great audio and 4k/60fps
Nice review, I just bought them. :)
This was a really useful video. Thanks so much :)
I know what mic I'll be purchasing... great video! Thanks for all the information
Love this vid. Have to say that the gopro 9 test in the field, no sounds at all,,, besides that part. bravo. Thanks for sharing.
This helps and it answered a ton of questions... thanks!
Thank you for this video!
Good review Shaun
Great review Shawn, I just bought it last week and I knew you would be the man to provide best tips and tricks!!! Can u also use the Rode Videomic ntg connect to it via USB c to receiver? cheers sandy
Nice test Sean. Break up is always the problem with wireless mics, this one seems improved in that regard. 👍
Ooh man this might be something new I'll have to put in the budget!
Nice job, thanks
Thanks for video
It was definitely a very good promotion. Thank you king.
good job this was well done
Great video you just answered a bunch of questions that I had. What is the go pro case that you use to add the mic showed on 4:42?
Very helpful 🙏🏽
Lovely insight
You think you could explain which setting to choose in the camera so that the wireless mic works instead of the media mod mic?
Rode says it's over 24h of audio recording on the mic itself - for those who were also wondering. Great review - thanks buddy!
This is definitely the solution we’ve been looking for to used my gopro with a good micro, thank you, what do you think about the dji micros?
Great review, as always! One question; if I record both microphones into the Hero 9 via Media Mod, will I get the sound from the microphones on separate channels (L/R) or will I get one mixed mono channel with the sound from both microphones?
You can configure it to mix the channels or have them on separate channels so you can do what you like with them later
what are the settings to connect the wireless go to the gopro hero 10? do you need to adjust the audio level like 5db? thanks
Great video, thanks for putting it together.
Question. Have you actually tried recording on the GoPro hero 9 with the Rode Wireless 2? I have tried and the signal is way too high and I get clipping. I have dropped the gain to -30, and tried standard mic, and powered mic (no boost) on the GoPro.
If you have had success, would you PLEASE share your settings?
Thanks,
Mike
What audio levels does your receiver show? Are you staying in the 'green zone'?
I've set the receiver's output level to -12 db and chose 'Powered Mic' on the GoPro, yellow spikes in the audio levels do not clip for me.
Just received mine today 👍
Great video Sean.... Of course I went ahead and bought the rode go one and two weeks later they came out with the two .....just my luck...lol
Mikey
Very nice Rode Wireless friend thank you for sharing watching from Japan 🇯🇵
Good information
Hello, so with the road wireless mic you don't need a gopro mic adapter? I live in Spain and the gopro mic adapter isn't sold here. Thanks
Unfortunately, a purely digital connection between the Wireless GO II and a GoPro (USB-C to USB-C) does not work.
You still need to have either the Media Mod or the Mic Adapter to connect both devices.
Thank you for this information. What case is that do you have on your gopro? Where can we get one ourselves?
When you did the outdoor test I only heard sound in my left earphone, would you have to use both senders to get a stereo sound setup, or can you send the sound out to both left and right with one sender?
I also got the same curious 🧐
In this case you have to switch the RØDE Wireless GO II receiver to 'Merged' mode. The audio received from one sender is output to both channels then, and your camera records it on the left and right channel equally.
I've been using a Rode SmartLav+ lavalier Mic for my Canon M50 and iPhone ..how does the quality of sound differ between the 2 mics and how did you connect the wireless to the GoPro 9?
I think you have to buy the mod which has all the connectors.
Thanks for the detailed vid! One question, on the GoPro, when you’re plugging through the Media Mod, what setting do you use for the mic? Standard, or Powered Mic?
Both settings work equally well for me. I personally choose 'Powered Mic', because the RØDE Wireless GO II is a powered device after all.
I love my wireless go 2 so far. Big improvement Ove the 1st one. Cheers Steve
@OatmealCremePie I’m not sure what you mean? I use these mics on GoPros
@OatmealCremePie no worries mate, I use it as a vlogging rig so I can point the camera anywhere and my audio doesn’t change, also for interviews so I can have mics on both me and the person I’m talking to. Cheers Steve
This is definitely the solution we’ve been looking for. We do a lot of audio recording while driving our diesel truck and the engine drowns out our voices on the GoPro 9. We got the media mod that really helps a lot and is almost perfect but I think this would be amazing. God bless. Kevin
Great video, thanks! Wow, that mic is expensive!!!! But I can see where it could really come in handy. Question on the danger to sound stupid, but I need clarification: If I were to put the camera into one of my cages and add one transmitter to the camera while keeping the other one with me, would the camera now have BOTH the bird sounds inside the cage and my voice from further away on it? I hope I made myself understandable.
Hi. Try connecting sc 17/22 (type c to type c ) cable to gopro directly to gopro … will this work with out those trs and trss cables if possible with out gopor mob
Thanks Sean. I put off buying the older version. This one looks good.
I’m actually quite pleased with it. I’ve actually had the set for a couple weeks now and have used it almost daily for some of my projects and couldn’t be happier with the performance of quality
can u make comparison between this rode wireless go ii and the saramonic blink 500 pro?
Where can I buy extra of those cables?
Thank you for sharing and review. Will this work with GoPro 8 w/Display Mod attached?
Yes, this works. You can attach the Display Mod to the top cold shoe mount of the Media Mod and place the RØDE Wireless GO II's receiver on the right side.
Thanks👍🏻
If you know how-to, can you make a video showing the best way to attach the Wireless Go II Transmitter to the new Insta360 One X2 so it can remain invisible and in line with a selfie stick?
If it is on "always" does it record a backup or when the safety channel is on?
Cool Shaun - nice vid - yeah I have had loads of issues with my "Dead Cats" on Rode Wireless Go 1, not fixing correctly or even falling off, at the craziest of times - does anyone have a practical workaround for this, I'm considering a stick on "Dead Cat"!
My question is about the casing of the gopro did you used where did you bought and the brand of it?
Wireless Mic required ? For GoPro 9, pls suggest 🙏
What case do you use for the gopro, to plug in the mic cable? Thank you!
May I ask you if the wireless go can attached on GoPro 5 and 7 with its regular skeleton case or do you need a special media mod to attach the receiver? Thanks.
Which cabe did he used to conncey reciever with gopro?
When we connect rode to gopro with media mod, do we have to change any settings? Like activate external mic or smt like that? I see some options, which r standard, powered n etc
Need this
This is awesome, may I please ask you one thing!? Can I use SC 16 cable to connect RODE wireless Go ll to GoPro black hero 9 without microphone adapter!?
need a video of you riding to hear mic sound quality.
thinking if getting this.
Where did you get the mod box? Only ones i find dont have the mic plug?
My problem with audio on the gopro is you can't set the mic level. Can you set it on this rode setup?
on my Amazon list for my God pro hero 9. thank for the video.
Have you tried the Synco?
Nice review. Did v1 also have the backup capability that you discussed towards the end of the video? Also I presume that all of the extra cables for connecting to your phone do not come in the standard package and cost extra?
Unfortunately no those iPhone cables do not come in the package. And as for back up audio recording that feature is not available on version 1.
@@AirPhotography Thanks.
Would this also work with a gopro hero 4 black?
Whats battery life like?
Nice upgrade but not as game-changing as the DJI wireless mic!
Is dji wireless mic fit in Gopro 10
can I use one on a Go Pro and one on a iPhone at the same time? Skip the RX? Just us the back up recordings?
I wonder how to turn that gain down
where can I buy that gopro 9 case?
Thanks for the video. Is there any way to use wireless Rode II mic and have constant power to the Hero 9 at the same time?
Yes, the Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter as well as the Media Mod feature a USB-C input, so you can connect a power bank for example.
Can you use this with older Go Pros? I have a Hero Black 5. Great information!
Yes, you would have to use GoPro's Mic Adapter to connect the receiver to the HERO 5.
Nice mic😍
Just wondering if you might know if the GoPro 9 uses a left and right channel for the audio? I have the 9 and the DJI action and found out that the DJI only records on the left channel and if you want to use 2 mics you have to merge them as you did in the video. At this time with the GP9 still freezing up and clicking in the audio I am reluctant to buy accessories, hopefully this last update has fixed the problem but I already know I still get the clicking. Great review !
The GoPros record stereo audio, so you can fully utilize the 'Split Mode' of the Wireless GO II.
Btw, I was very disappointed to find out that the Insta360 ONE R features just mono audio recording as well.
Hey Shawn (Shaun?), it sounds like the audio from the Wireless Go 2 is coming mostly from the Left. Is this an editing issue?
With the Wireless GO II you've got the option of recording in merged (both mics on L and R) or split (one mic on L and one on R). Sounds like he is recording in split mode so his mic is only recording to the L. This can be edited onto both channels in post-production!
He forgot to put the audio as dual channel mono
Is the transmitter the plugs into the GoPro waterproof ?
I’m looking at these to use on my motorcycle, so the transmitter will be on the side of my helmet . And the receiver under my pillion seat for exhaust audio .
And also, if I’m using plugged into my GoPro, when I turn on the camera while riding, will the mics connect automatically to each other ?
Many thanks for your clear review 👍
whats the cage name?
Hiya, I bought the wireless go after watching this and it’s paired with a GoPro hero 10 but I’m getting a horrible buzzing noise any idea of a fix please?
So with this little set up Melly and myself could wear one each in mono mode using both at one time? I think that is correct isn’t it? Great review by the way. I hope you are getting these products for free because you will help them sell a ton of them!
Bought this for my Motorcycle vids/vlogs. I'm thinking it's best to purchase a lav mic to feed inside my helmet. Putting the wirless rode mic in my helmet might be a bit crowded? Your thoughts and thanks for helping out this lady motorcycle rider 😁
Good day! I am buying the Rode Go 2. Please tell me the red wire connector at 4:49? tnx
Where I can buy this rode
5:58 what's the point for plugging wireless microphone into Boom Microphone?
Can any one tell me if can be used as a common mic 🎤 like if i put in centre and few people having a conversation will it record all the voices around something like a rode boomstick mic
Awesome
hello Air Photography 👋, question, am I able to use this product strictly from my go pro, and not on person, just to have high quality audio recording from the GoPro, as I'm recording people, conversations and not vlogging or the like
I’m trying to set up the go pro 9 with the rode wireless microphone and it’s not working
What is the Battery range?
Plz make video about gopro 9 mic adapter
Love from Nepal
My go pro 9 and rode mic aren't working even with the media mod attachment. Once plugged in the sound at the bottom has one green and doesn't increase on any mod change. I've used the c USB attachment, the audio jack, nothing...
