      I just bought a Rode Wireless go and absolutely love the sound quality and versatility the setup gives me. The rub I have is with GoPro, in short, their product information interoperability transparency is horrible. Trying to get them to confirm my wireless go would work with the Hero 9 black I just ordered was an ordeal to say the least. Just tonight I figured out I needed the media mod in order to get my mic to work, would have been very helpful if they were able to provide that info last week. The plus I'll take away is that I am much more in tune with both the Wireless Go and the Hero 9 and will tell everyone that asks that Rode is absolutely the way to go for their microphone needs,

      @@YellowJacketGarage Totally understand the frustration with GoPro. I've found the live chat on and the forum on their website to be pretty helpful in the past, but definitely a dig for info most of the time. For the Rode Wireless Go (or any external mic), you'll need either the Media Mod OR the GoPro Mic Adapter, although the adapter won't be compatible with the Hero 9 until firmware update v1.5 comes out in November. Also remember to set the GoPro to Powered Mic, and you'll be golden!

    Honestly, this video helped me determine that I really don't need any mic for the GoPro. Like all the other mics aren't that much more better quality than the internal mics of the GoPro. Maybe if there was more wind it would be a bit more different but if I'm just shooting a hike or something during summer season I think no external mic is good enough.

    A good host of options for microphones for the walking vlogger. For myself with my Hero 9 attached to the chin of my full face mountain bike helmet, the options decrease dramatically. I need to be able to change batteries easily, without taking the camera off the helmet, and the use of the Media Mod and its requirement in order to use these mics, limits my choices to none. This is really helpful, thanks! I think the Rode Wireless wins for quality, but the Media Mod mic wins for convenience, apart from having to keep changing the setting from back to front. In that case, the Rode might actually beat it for convenience as long as you remember to switch all three things on and off. Good for certain shooting sessions where you're gonna do all your filming in one go. It's a pain for vlogging when you do loads of very short shots all over the place on the go.

Then while recording can select the shortcut and switch between the front and back mic. Also, if you use the Deity D4 DUO as your external mic you will be able to pick up both from and back of the camera without switching mic selections on the media mod and is a better replacement for the Rode Video Micro.

      @@kwsim539 No worries! There's a lot to learn about this camera -- tons of features. The mic shortcut is super helpful and I use it often. I just wish they would either let you switch between mics while recording OR give us back the Stereo setting that lets you record from both mics. It makes zero sense to disable both mics and let the internal mics take over. I just got the Deity D4 mic and am so excited to use it! Looks like a good solution, but unfortunately is kinda bulky 😛

    Rode Go for the win, however is not as portable and another thing to charge and keep mind of. Media Mod mic is most descrete and is the best for simplicity, though a shame they go didnt include the both front and rear mic option. Hopefully a future firmware OS update can have that feature return.

    Cool video thanks for the comparison! I liked the Rode micro and the Joby best. Just FYI they are directional microphones. Probably cardioid and super cardioid I would guess. So it’s a good thing you can’t be heard from the other side of the camera. The Joby did a really good job at not picking up your voice from the other side. It’s more directional than the Rode. Good things for filming in public! Thanks again for the video!

    Very good video 📹
    You elaborate every thing very well .
    I appreciate .
    I am using Boya mic through media mod .
    One thing why gopro company is not giving a simple jack in camera so the user can connect any mic or attach a adapter which has ports of 3.5 mm and c type so you can attach multi type of mics wireless or with wire .
    But the company is very clever .
    People's are bound to purchase costly media mod or mic adapter and waste their precious money .
    Overall your video is very useful and informative 👍

    Hmm, for me, considering everything, I think I'll stick to Media Mod.
    1) it's an integrated system from GoPro (no need to deal with dongle and jacks)
    2) very small (If I'm vlogging with a GoPro, compactness, ease of carrying, and even, stealth, is the point, I don't want a big dead cat dangling on top)
    3) the audio pick up was DECENT (as in, enough for me) in any direction.
    4) I'm not sure, but is Media Mod waterproof or water-resistant?
    As a guy graduating from Hero Silver 4, I think Hero 9 with the Media Mod (and maybe the LED on top) is all you'll ever need LOL

    I think the Media Mod sounded the clearest, as far as your voice. Also it by far picked up the water sounds the best & clearest, and also it seemed to have the least amount of rumbly ambient noise. AND - when you turned the mic away, the level dropped slightly but nothing like all the other mics.

    I decided to resolve this by buying the Ulanzi U grip mount to hold my GoPro and the Zoom H6 handheld recorder with a shock mount. • @aitp
    @aitp Před 3 lety

    Just a suggestion to those with a Go Pro 9 either considering the Media Mod or the external Mic Adaptor to be able to use external mics - where I live (Australia), the Media Mod is $129, the external adaptor $79. I'm sure comparisons will be relative in your own country, BUT, the media mod has a cold shoe for mounting any mic or wireless receiver (in the case of the Rode Wireless which I'm considering), if you use the Mic Adaptor, your adaptor and mic will be hanging off the side of the camera!! Not practical at all, particularly if you record on the go.

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  Před 3 lety

      For the mic adapter, there are cages for the GoPro that include slots to hold the adapter. It's an extra expense, but keeps it from hanging in the way. czcams.com/video/qIOUiK5PDIk/video.html

    • @aitp
      @aitp Před 3 lety

      @@Gemini_Connect It looks good, but buying the practical media mod could actually work out the same price as the mic adaptor with Ulanzi cage, and and be less bulky and less fuss to setup without having to connect the mic adaptor. But its an option that may suit some. I enjoyed your video and will be sure to watch more of them. Thanks

    For my use, I would go with the media mod, as I use the Gopro 9 as a “capture all video camera”
    Like airshow and urban exploring and nature walks.
    I like it that’s it picks up on the ambient sound around you and I think that one does the best job at that.
    But yes for talking head video then the wireless or the directional mic are better.
    And I also really like the media mod, that you able to put things on the cool shoe, Used to make a big rig for Gopro + light + handle , and we can have it all in small form factor.
