Prime Yngwie just took everyone to school, He is matchless not only speedwise but the way he delivered the licks and phrases. It has some subtle nuances that's hard to explain. Very loose yet intensely technical at the same time, and the wide vibrato is simply godlike. 🤘
Some interesting anecdotes (paraphrased):
- Steve Vai said in one interview that when he played with Alcatraz, people are still looking for Yngwie.
- Jason Becker idolized Yngwie and the NeoClassical sound that it motivated him to play Paganini Caprice 5 and even played "Black Star" in a high school talent show.
- Nuno of Extreme said that he was so excited to see Yngwie live when he was just 17 and said Yngwie is like an alien and "his playing is like sorcery."
- Zakk Wylde called Yngwie the "guitarist from Mars" because he was so amazed after listening to Yngwie for the first time, he said his head almost exploded.
- Paul Gilbert said when he was studying at GIT (Guitar Institute), there was a class there specifically dedicated in breaking down Yngwie's songs and playing.
- Kirk Hammett wanted to learn how to play like Yngwie in his earlier years, but decided not to continue....for reasons that i guess you all know.🤭

Jason Becker and George Lynch are very unique.
Also Eric Johnson.
Richie Kotzen was way better with pick as he is nowadays.
Lynch, vH, Randy and Uli Jon Roth paved the way.
Yngwie was the next rocket stage.

I give a half step faster to MAB, but the style of MAB is very militaristic and mechanized, where Yngwie just shreds, but with heart, soul, mind and beautiful chord construction. I'll take Malmsteen, hands down, any day...Ol Sarge
