As a bibliophile and collector of beautiful books, I love these video ! Some of my most anticipated releases that haven't been mentionned : Classical Mythology A to Z (illustrated by Jim Tierney), Poems to Save the World With (illustrated by Chris Riddell), Wizard of the Pigeons: The 35th Anniversary Illustrated Edition and Northern Lights (illustrated by Chris Wormell).
Oooh, I have Wizard of the Pigeons and the Riddell Poems on preorder too, but am off to check the others you mentioned now - love both of those illustrators! Thanks! 💕

If you haven't already seen 'Mythical Beasts and Magical Creatures' by Stephen Krensky, it just came out and is so, so beautiful. A children's book with gorgeous illustrations.

as far as i know the minalima edition of harry potter is not the next book of their illustrated childrens classics it's a different series. i have read they are already working on the harry potter and the chamber of secrets book, and they posted on their FB page that the next book of the childrens illustrated classics series is going to the the wizard of oz.

I already have it preordered thanks to some older birthday money laying around and I can't wait to have it in my hands! It sounds like it sits right between the levels of ornateness that the Occult and Ineffable editions of Good Omens had, and I'm both curious to see what ephemera come with it and what extra details they'll add to the inside (like how Occult Edition had gold dropcap letters to start each chapter, the winged hourglasses to divide sections, the apple motif, etc.) - gryphongirl
I hope so, but at the moment I think most likely they will not be illustrated. I did contact the publisher, but got a bit of a run-around (and I think if they were going to be illustrated they would not be hiding the fact).
Ha, very possibly! There is an impact here from what types of books are released as special editions and when though. Most often the October releases are classic fiction (which will almost without fail include a bunch of Jane Austen titles, but the bulk of the rest are typically male authors), and YA (which is dominated by female authors). Non-fiction and other topics are more likely to be announced closer to Christmas and marketed as gifts at the end of the year, and I cover those in my year-end review. If you’ve got some suggestions of upcoming special editions that aren’t so ‘girly’ though, please do share 😀
@@BeautifulBooks I think it was the profuse combination of flowery dustjackets with female authors, female protagonists or romance plots that tipped me over the edge! I am so not a fan of celeb non-fiction, especially that which is marketed to men (Clarkson, sport bios et al). As for new special editions, I expect the Folio Society will release another title in their continuing and really nice Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 series... there's the third book 'A Storm of Swords' from HarperVoyager in their illustrated editions of the A Song of Ice and Fire series in November. Do you know how those illustrated editions compare to the very expensive Folio Society version? The Edgar Rice Burroughs Authorized Library is releasing the first four Tarzan novels in lovely hardcover editions with great cover art, and there is a small press US publisher called Centipede Press which have been releasing the Fritz Leiber Fafhrd & the Grey Mouser stories in lovely hardcovers with wraparound art on the dustjackets. Just want to say I do appreciate your videos, whether or not every book appeals, so thanks and keep them coming x
Oooh, yes, I forgot about the illustrated Storm of Swords because they announced it a while ago, but I definitely should have included that one! (It’s not up to the FS quality binding-wise unfortunately, but also doesn’t have near the same price tag...) I’ve been collecting the CP Fritz Leibers as well - a childhood favorite of min, so pleased they are getting such nice treatment - but don’t think they’ve announced the next one yet (in fact I think I covered their first one in one of my first end or year roundups actually - they were a bit easier to obtain when they sold the trade editions through bookshops, but they are much harder to get now unfortunately if you’re not in the US). I hadn’t heard of the Tarzan HB novels, so will go and check that out now - I have only falling apart vintage paperbacks for these, so will be great to see what they have planned.
