    U should have also touched on the hyperawareness, impulsitivity, and compulsitivity that comes along with it doc. Always nervous, on edge, brain never shuts off, and especially anticipated triggers or presenting triggers activating or arousing the HPA. I'd like to see you.

    Is exercise bad if you have this problem. I found out I have it. I was given one handout that mentioned to avoiding strenous exercise.

      I posted a link to a company that does some of them in a video and blog post with title MTHFR testing. The comprehensive testing for genetics are only available through doctors office, as far as I know.

    But the COMT mutation is what made us smart civilised people. Without the COMT met allele we would still be in the jungle, hunting and climbing the trees

    I was recently diagnosed with comt v158 homozygous positive. My body is unable to break down estrogen. I would go crazier everytime it was prescribed to me. I have tests showing i have zero testosterone which is causing me female menopausal issues. Does having this gene mutation mean I cannot take testosterone or DHEA either since these are androgens? Any reply would greatly be appreciated.

    • @swintegrative
      @swintegrative  Před 5 lety +4

      Hi Mina, This particular SNP will slow down your bodies ability to breakdown estrogens but there are back up pathways. If you got worse from birth control (which are not estradiol but synthetic forms of estrogen), it could be related. However since they are synthetic forms of estrogen and some also have synthetic progesterones, it would be hard to say without having the exact formula. If it was bioidentical estradiol then your back up pathways may also be compromised. To your question about testosterone and DHEA, you may be fine. It is true that some of the testosterone will turn into estradiol but not all will. It will really depend on how your back up pathways for estrogen breakdown are working, how much testosterone you take, and how much aromatizes to estradiol. I hope this helps, you may want to also check out my video "3 reasons hormones cause anxiety" as I think it will help as well.

      Southwest Integrative Medicine thank you for your reply. Since being diagnosed I've been scouring the web trying to learn about this. It's super hard to understand the dynamics when it comes to medical terms and what not. I have tried all hormones( estrogen and progesterone synthetic pills and bio identical creams. I have tried the estrogen patch, the estrogen vaginal cream estrace.)All these were the lowest dose possible) and all have caused me more anxiety and depression. What's weird is that everyone i would take any type of estrogen, i would immediately feel great but only to feel anxiety crying and depression a few hours later. I have never tried testosterone or dhea tho. But my specialist won't start me On these until i try all these natural supplements first. I am currently on a 12 supplement plan via a specialist, such as magnesium glycinate (gave me headaches), methylated b complex, Sam-e, Panax ginseng, ldl, DIM cq10 absorb, to name a few. I'm supposed to start these slowly and introduce each one every 3 days, I've only done probiotic sachets 5billion, the magnesium and the b complex. Tonight I will try and Introduce either Sam-e or DIM. One thing I should mention is that about 2.5 years ago, I woke up one morning with weird adrenaline type rushes starting from my lower pelvic area all the way up my chest and sometimes my head. I almost feel like a lit up Christmas tree. To date I still wake up each and every morning with these and no doctor has been able to tell me what it is. I feel these rushes are going to be part of my life forever. Any thoughts?

    • @swintegrative
      @swintegrative  Před 5 lety +3

      Well that is interesting and it sounds like it may not be just one thing. I can't say for sure what it is or what to do but I would focus on detoxification (specifically amine elimination).

    • @leannsanchez9716

      @@swintegrative Can you explain the importance of amine elimination?

    • @swintegrative
      @swintegrative  Před 2 lety +3

      @@leannsanchez9716 sure. I will make a video on that topic. The basic idea is that amines can build up in your system when you have COMT. As a result other stimulating neurotransmitters (amines) stay in your system longer. I would be curious how much research there is on this topic.

    • @swintegrative

      Hi Mark, you mean if you have slow COMT function can you take clonidine? There would be no absolute contraindication there. Clonidine is decreasing the binding of catecholamines (in specific tissues) but does not change the actual levels.
