Iloilo is one place that I would consider to live.
i was only in the city for a few days. It needs a good 2 weeks to see everything and get a better feel of the city. It was so clean
Hi Mike and Janet ❤️.. Looks very nice and clean too. Thanks for sharing. 😊
very clean and so much to see and do Herb
Iloilo is just amazing clean organise huge high ways. I just wish that all the rest of the provinces are as clean as Iloilo. I salute there was a politicians.
Your video are knocking it out of the park!
And your thumbnails are amazing too.
Glad you like them!
This video presentation is well thought out and delivered, Mike! You really know your audience and still manage to include the so-called Filipino expat-balikbayans like me to re-educate about the potential of progressive provinces.
I am a filipina from Manila and a US citizen who has resided in Georgia for 20 years now, and definitely, Iloilo is on my radar for retirement consideration. Many thanks for your wonderful Iloilo City pitch!
Nice tour of Iloilo. Think the same that it would be nice to visit and stay for awhile. Thanks for this video, very informative. Good job, Janet and Mike.....Jim
Glad you enjoyed it! Jim
Loved the video Mike, so glad to have met you guys you both were a pleasure to have met. Take Care and keep the wonderful videos coming.
Thanks, you too!. Thanks Paul take care always
Great info you shared! Keep up the great work Mike. Thank you for sharing.
Welcome
I’m a blk man, 44yrs old, single, no kids, in Las Vegas receiving 100% VA ($3,737.85/ month). Got my passport last week and my 10-year clock has started. 1st stop is CEBU Aug 1st 2024. Wish me luck.
stay low profile. they will love you for who you are not for your money.✌
Yeah keep that 3,000 bucks info to yourself man
for that 100% VA you will really live like a king anywhere in Philippines. wish I got 100%.
Best of luck with everything 👍 Former Navy Veteran here. ⚓️
Excellent. The Philippines is amazing
I live in Iloilo and like it. They have a good expat group of non toxic people which is refreshing. I do find it more expensive for housing as prices are on par with the nicer areas of Manila, but other costs are less.
Thanks for the info
Mike, bro, and beautiful Janet, Richard and Dana here, thanks for posting your Iloilo trip. My wife and I have been looking forward to this episode. Great narrative and cool video Janet! Love the info. My Filipino wife is still a bit ify about medical stuff but you did a great job 👏
Thanks Richard
Great video Mike. I love how you go into town, with a boots on the ground mentality, and give fellow expats your first impression. Thats a fantastic mission. I live in Antique, spend lots of time in Roxas City (my Mom lives there), but Iloilo is the place i will be when i become a member of the 70 plus age group, where i need to be closer to reliable medical care. I was there in October 2023 to help my Mom with some medical issues (heart disease) for which Roxas City was not equipped. She was taken care of at The Medical City. For your retired military member viewers (such as myself), The Medical City accepts Tricare. The other observation i made from your video is that there were numerous trash cans along the parks and walkways. Not so in Roxas City, which explains much of the litter in that relatively dirty city North of Iloilo.
thanks for the comment
Great observations Mike and yes find that stop that’s a good fit and be a positive part of the community.
@scottar3181 thank you
Great tour of Iloilo Mike! I'd love to visit there someday.
You should!
Great video guys thank you. Good info about healthcare. Im visiting my Filipina in Tacloban City and we took our baby to a couple of their recommended hospitals. Not good. Im sure the doctors may be fine but terrible facilities, organization and services. So much to her chagrin Leyte and Samar are off my future retirement places list. I’m healthy but…Gotta have access to good healthcare.
Good job Mike, great review of the city.
Thanks 👍Franky
Hi Mike, Glad you had a good time. I was pretty sure you would like it. The seafood is fantastic there as well. The boat club is all speed boats. They race to the nearby island and back. They will be building a bridge over to the island in the near future. Take it easy.
yes maybe after PJ finishes scool it would be a good place to live
Mike it could be as you get older and might need health care. Only thing is would Janet leave her family or want to stay close to them.
needs and wants to stay close to them. She would go anyplace I ask her to move to
They have a tour with speedboat around the Iloilo Strait and you can rent jetskis at the boatclub.
Great video. Yes we moved here last December from Virginia to Korea and now really love living here.
I like this video! very imformative!
Glad you liked it!
Good compressive review
Glad you think so! Bruce
Thank you Mike..all your observations are spot on. By the way there is a resort with an equestrian school called Casa Fiammetta inland resort and football is big in this Iloilo town only 40 minutes away. Check out Bucari mountains and Guimaras island on your next visits.
thanks for the info
And Iloilo is home of Kaya FC-Iloilo.. one of the best if NOT the best professional football club in the country.
Beautiful city Mike thank you for the info.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video Mike
Thank you for showing this place
My pleasure 😊
Great reflections.
Thanks for the tour Mike. It's on my radar if for no other reason than to meet Texas Filipino. It does seem expensive from the research I've done.... for right now those suburbs are only 30 minutes out, but how long will that take with further development? I appreciate your insights and hope you and Janet are fully enjoying your new home. Hope I get to see you there again some day. Peace and Love, B Goat
Thanks Billy
Excellent video Mike. I stayed right across from SM Mall. I arrived by plane at night so didn't see much but the drive to the City and hotel was about 40 minutes.
Im spoiled because Dumaguete Airport is so close to the City. Upon daylight it was beautiful but very windy during my three days there.
The City is spread out but taxi's are easy to get. I didn't do any real estate analysis but your video truly shows the different areas and the wider streets. Very civilized community.
It's a hard choice to make. Overall I think you would benefit having a car. I'm done with motorcycles, so it's taxi's or private car.
being close is not always better. Dumaguete is a small city
I WILL BE MOVING TO ILIOILIO THANKS TO MIKE AND JANET
Nice Place you will like it in Iloilo
I’ve only been to Iloilo and Manila. And I love Iloilo. My husband and I bought a little house in a subdivision there that we use as our vacation house when we visit from the States. Totally wroth it, some day we will retire there.
How were you able to buy a house? I thought that was not allowed.
@@yaimavol married to a filipino citizenship otherwise you can only buy and own a condo unit which are plenty there.
Biking from LaPaz to diversion road until Ungka, Jaro and back may weekend exercise😊
sounds like a fun trip
Yes sir. Thank u for visiting iloilo. Yes correct i proud ilonggo that very nice people and lovely
So nice of you
Hey Mike & Janet 🙋♀️. Looks awesome there in Iloilo but I'd heard before that it was pretty expensive. Sure is nice to see no trash blowing around the streets though!!👍
Thanks so much. the overall cost of living! The expats I talked to said it was ok but a 800 or $1000 a month budget might not be as good as in some smaller towns and cities the the Philippines
Just recently, Iloilo is voted as one of most affordable city in South East Asia!
HI MIKE and JANET , Great video , looks very clean and modern.
RED LIGHT DISTRICT ? I personally CAN NOT COMMENT , however you are doing a fantastic job , giving details even about RED LIGHT DISTRICTS .
I mean this as a COMPLIMENT.
TY
GOD BLESS CIAO
Thanks for sharing
Mike, it's almost like another country the way roads and traffic is there. The city leadership has their act together.
Yes very interesting city
Hi Mike great review of Iloilo. ❤
Hey, thanks!
Just watching the traffic stop at traffic lights is astonishing 😅
I noticed that too! Traffic lights, wide roads, the power lines in great shape, no brownouts.
thanks for watching guys very clean and good traffic control
And seldom you hear HONKING..
Where ever I AM at any moment, that's the place to be.
good way to think about it
Welcome to Iloilo sir!🙏❤️👍
Thanks! 😃
Hello Mike , I have been Cebu for over 3 times I love the place and the food there ❤
When it comes to food Iloilo is the only UNESCO City of Gastronomy in the Philippines.
That's awesome
Iloilo is also adjacent to Boracay if you want more adventure. Basically Panay island is an adventure. You can travel to antique or Aklan if you want river rafting or northern Iloilo if you want snorkeling or scuba diving
are you living in Iloilo
If you can't afford to spend 4-5 hrs road trip to Boracay.. Guimaras Island is just a 15min boat ride.
Iloilo is just 15 minutes boat ride to Guimaras where you can find the sweetest mangoes and beautiful beaches. They’re constructing a road now which will take only 2 hours to Antique and Malay Aklan. So going to Boracay is mroe feasible if that road is finished next year.
Great video just seeing the power lines look like here in America. It's definitely on my radar to go try fishing their. Wonder if they have charter boats their to take you out. Very clean looking.
#JenGioPhilippineJourney. When you arrive in Iloilo City, try to get in touch with THE BOAT CLUB, via the Richmond Hotel at the IloIlo Megaworld Iloilo Business Park. THE BOAT CLUB conducts cruise tours around the Guimaras Strait which is overlooking ILOILO CITY and Guimaras Island.
not sure but the are putting some of the lines underground
@armandosune3839 is that a good place to do fishing? After watching Mike's and Texas Filipino do that video I want to try fishing around their. Since here in Florida I fish alot for snook and seatrout, Snapper, shark, redfish hell anything that is biting and good to eat like to try fishing in Philippines on a charter
@@JenGioPhilippineJourney You can go fishing in Iloilo Esplanade no need for license just bring your fishing rod and whatever you catch its yours to bring.Iloilo has a boat club you can inquire with them.
@rosemendez931 tyvm we will definitely go to Iloilo. We in Florida now I taught my Asawa how to use fishing pole she out fishes me lol. Can't wait to catch some great eating fish their
I bought my retirement house here at oton close to SM malls and everything for about 2 years now. The hospitals are all brand new everything. But short on doctors and nurses. They have Costco type of membership store called S&R but always short of stock on American food products and the price are the same as in California. The power outage and slow internet for my tv are very frustrating so I just bought a generator and skynet. But the rest are perfect for a retiree like me.
Were you able to buy a house? What would the price be like for a 3000 sq ft house?
@@yaimavol most people living in 100sq house here or 30sq condo
@@nichole-life 100sq ft is a tiny home.
@@yaimavol Filipino not rich! 100sq is enough for a normal family
@@yaimavol i bought a 100 sq meter 3 bedroom house in gated community here for 60K bare. spent another 60K for upgrade and balcony. now they are selling it to 80-100k bare. If you want a 3000 sq ft I suggest you buy an empty lot and built your own house w/ swimming pool.
way to go Mike.
thank you
Moving to Panay. Thanks for the heads up. My filipina is from there and will be an easy transition
Hey Mike, great video. Have you ever visit?Aklan,Philippines
Not yet!
I really appreciate your responses and onsite observations. I am a younger, single, early retiree and been scouting the Philippines for a few years now. I have been told numerous times that you have to have boots on ground the trouble is just because you arrive in the country doesn't mean you necessarily know what you're getting yourself into and what the environment will be. I have the other issue of not struggling in my retirement. My buddies always joke about just getting by overseas, that is not the retirement lifestyle I plan on living. Comfort and low stress are all I hope to obtain. My question is as a mobile, mentor of men, where would you recommend exploring first. I have not been to Iloilo and now after watching a few of these and speaking with other westerners, have no intention of going. I would like to meet a young lady and enjoy the foodie lifestyle in between exercising and working out. I have been to Manila, BGC, Cebu, Caticlan, and Boracay. I have stayed month to month before moving on to the next. I also lived in Japan, Portugal, Germany, and France but currently reside in the United States (Hawaii). I am considering Panama. I currently just want a traditional family life with a no hustle culture. Any suggestions?
thank you for the comment. That is for you to decide and if your on a hunt for ladies and good food. Cebu is my top choice.
I hear Roxas City up north is also very nice
have not been to Roxas City
@@mikesphilippineretirement Seafood capital of the Philippines.
Was there back in January, exsctly your description flat more vibrant clean and wider streets. They have great university where my VA doctor and dentist graduated. They have a brand new airport out of the City and MegaWorld is as close to IT Park and BGC in modern design. Centrally located which I like
great points
Iloilo City my Birthplace!Iloilo City the City of Love..see you soon my beloved city.
I am proud ilongga 😊 you should guys visit also guimaras island from Iloilo only 15mins with boat.
Iloilo is safe place also. Nice people
very safe I do think I said that John
Thanks Mike for the info. Like to visit my ancestral land. God bless.
You should!
Thank you for the review Mike. Truly, Iloilo City is where the old meets the new.
Mike ws hoping ou would have mentioned the new development based on the city's of Georgia-its huge and amazing.
so much to see and do and so little time
The first thing I noticed was the power poles were clean
yes they looked good a few places still a mess but they are working on it
Comparing Iloilo to other cities you visited:
1. How well protected from various acts of god like typhoons, earthquakes, Volcanos, & general flooding?
2. Ease, cost and cleanliness ( diesel smoke ) of various transportation options?
3. 🇺🇸 credit card penetration?
4. Skin tax?
5. Do stores and pharmacies have AC?
6. Overall English levels?
7. Overall vibe of the Hiligaynon people, are they more or less insular then say Tagalogs or Cebuenos?
Cannot remember exactly but the mother in-law took sick and had to be hospitalised in Iloilo Iloilo. During the treatment she was connected to an old ECG. They say she pulled on one of the leads which broke the connection of the end. The hospital insisted on it was her fault and charged us a 1000 pesos for a replacement! Her being old and delirious from effects of a stroke it is debatable whether she did it or that the equipment was just old and falling apart. Anyway thought it was insensitive and callous act on the hospital’s part.
#borij4054 You are talking of probabilities, hazy recollections , "cannot remember" situations, "debatabilities". it is obvious you just want to shame the hospital. No matter if it was purposeful or not on the part of the mother in law, the fact that the gadget was in her use meant that the family would have to pay the cost of the loss or use. Or perhaps you are a jealous resident from another city and would want your city to make even with ILOILO's attractiveness as a visitors' tourism destination. ILOILO'S hospitals are at par with those in Metro Manila.Just this week, April 26, 2024, the First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, whose father comes from Jaro, ILOILO CITY , and who herself is at present a Law instructor at the West Visayas State University in Iloilo City even as she functions as Philippine First Lady, led city officials in the groundbreaking ceremony for the 15-storeys medical center bldg and facilities of the University Medical Center of WVSU. In ILOILO CITY costing 15 billion. Also groundbreaking this week are the newest facilities at the Western Visayas Medical Center in ILOILO CITY - the Cancer Center bldg, the Lung Center bldg, and the Heart Center bldg, all in ILOILO CITY. Also recently opened are the 9-storeys bldg facilities of the Asia Pacific Medical Center, and the upgraded Ayala Corporation's Qualimed Medical Center at the Ayala Atria Business Park in ILOILO CITY. Other new hospitals in ILOILO CITY include the Metro Ilollo Hospital and the Medical City-Iloilo Phinma Medical Center which is a favorite hospital of the city's new US migrants and retireee expatriates because of its efficient TRICARE MEDICAL INSURANCE services which are US-based.
Just imagine how I’m going to feel come September 😂
Lost, Happy at the same time
Lived in Cebu 6 months not for me Valencia up from Dumaguete year and a half ready to move thinking about Iloilo heard it was pricey . Globe or smart used there
Hi Mike,
You're the first person I've heard mention St Paul's and the healthcare in Iloilo. So far, that's been a big factor in choosing where to live. For us, that's been a big part of the draw to Dumaguete. Other than being more expensive to live in than Dumaguete, it seems like a good choice.
-Steve and Jen
Health care is much better in Iloilo
There are about 10 big hospitals in Iloilo City... The city is currently building its own city hospital...
New subs here from iloilo city
Welcome!!
Red light district not allowed in Iloilo, city government implemented that almost a decade ago. they want to keep the city good impressions.
It is a nice city
Nice video tonight Mike. Hello all.
Morning
Thank you for this video, Mike. I have not visited Iloilo, but have read several positive reviews about it. Where will I find the best beaches in Iloilo?
guimaras or higantes island better than that tourist crowded buracay island.
@@USSTrippeFFpart Thank you!
Lol I live in Iloilo City. People here don't care at all that you are a foreigner. Women aren't going to throw themselves at you. People here are super nice and super conservative. I have a studio a mile away from festive walk and the esplanade for 313.00 a month. Very clean with cctv a huge generator and the nicest staff you'll ever find! I'm lucky to be here. If you come here be respectful, Ilonggos are super nice quiet spoken people who are very much in touch with their warrior roots. I am amazed by the people here every day!!! Not as much contact with foreigners as the rest of the Philippines so if you're an obnoxious expat, please stay away!!!
Well, I can bring a girl from another island and move to iloilo. But how is the age gap looked at in Iloilo? I know it is well tolerated in DUma.
@78swats I've seen a few 20 year age gaps but honestly it's not a thing here.
Would a 60 year old retired lady from Florida like Iloilo?
Very much like it!
Somehow came across your channel and really enjoy it. Any chance you can do one video on older WOMEN moving to Philippines (sp) I.e. is it advisable? What to expect, etc. Thank you!

I will check Iloilo out for a few days on my next trip. Are condo units near the river walk hard to find?
U can go to Southern Iloilo too in Conception 11 Islands in a day.
We have a house in Westwoods Grand Subdivision in iloilo. Wouldn't wanna live anywhere else. Love Iloilo. Karl & Hazel
Iloilo is still growing n could take a few more years to be like Cebu n Manila...Iloilo is more slow paced n laid back city
Western foods are not available in some Iloilo provinces, sometimes no air conditioner, lots of flies while eating
I think in Duma you can catch crabs quite easily
hmmmm
One of the reasons we chose to retire in Iloilo is we did not get a western dating/meat market feeling around the city. I sure hope that continues. To paraphrase a saying in the US "Please don't Dumaguete our Iloilo"
OMG trashing Dumaguete. hahaha
I was gonna live in Cebu, being 74, I want a more relaxed life. I did research Iloilo a year ago, decided on Cebu. However, I realized my need for a more relaxed life, Iloilo would be a better fit. My concern is condo living and cost. I don't mind paying 25000 pesos for a large studio, but my budget is going to be $1500 USD per month. I might get a bike, since the traffic looks normal. Not like Cebu or dumaguete. Coming from Texas
Its more than enough for a month..
Traffic is far more than Dumaguete.
It is like a luxury life in Iloilo. LoL
@@halfevilhalfgood2206 Rents seem high in Iloilo. $500 for a 1 BR condo. So, how is $1500 a luxury? It's barely enough. I am thinking of iloilo too, and I want to restrict my budget to $2000 for 2 people.
Depends in which part of ilolio city you went
Even as an Ilonggo, I have always wondered why there are so many hospitals here. Even some universities have their own hospitals 😅
We have everything here in Iloilo City. Clean and friendly people. Cleanliness is a priority here in Iloilo City "City of Love".If you get bored you can drive in less than 4 hours and you'll be relaxing in Boracay.
Mike I don’t remember if you mentioned the water there. Is it safe to drink or still have to be careful??
I've never been to a place in the Philippines where I would be comfortable drinking tap water, Iloilo had some people get sick last year from contaminated water from water stores.
Mmikeyyy I would never drink tap water in Thailand or Philippines
@@stephenr2195The contamination came from deep wells.. not from the water stores..

Don’t drink tap water there. There are many places to buy water in Iloilo like 7/11. I’m an Ilonggo who live in Canada now but when I went home I bought my water in 7/11 even thou we have stocks of purified water in our house.
Our Mayor in Iloilo city once said... “Iloilo City shall be a model of a livable, sustainable, and resilient city of well-governed and empowered Ilonggos that safeguard the environment and preserve the culture while sustaining a robust, inclusive, and innovative economy,”

I don’t like the hospitals in the Philippines in general. They would hold you and drain you until your last dime. Unlike in the US where they want to discharge you rather than keep you as much as possible
you do not need to use a Philippine Hospital
Me thinketh are you really talking about the good 'ol US of A where citizens have to sell their house before doctors will operate on you.!@?
P.S. Maybe more......covert!@!?🤪😉
Yes US hospitals are fancy and "high tech" but it'll cost an arm, a leg, and your first-born for mere ER outpatient services, much more for confinement. Then take a good look at the medical staff, you'll most likely see 1 or more Filipino nurse/doctor in there.
@schrodinger3467
Yep, especially after the sniffles jab which showed us all how important it is for these ones to follow their oath of......do no harm!@!?😉
You have an inaccurate and incomplete understanding of Philippine hospitals vs US hospitals
The air seem polluted ?
wow really?
@@mikesphilippineretirement I'm asking you ? Did you notice any air pollution?
I keep hearing from people who have had surgery in the Philippines that you need a runner… a trusted person to go pay for that bedpan, aspirin, medication, bag of saline solution, because they make you go and buy every little thing along the way after your surgery instead of just provide it and present you with rhe final bill when you’re ready to leave the hospital. What if you have no one to go out and buy all those things? You’re screwed!!! That’s scary. What a flawed and crappy way to run a hospital.
You have to have a deposit at the hospital so that medications can be taken from the hospital pharmacy. Most of the people in the Philippines does not have the insurance like what you have in the US. So people buy medications on a daily basis. Prescriptions will be given to the relatives and they have options whether to buy the medications at the hospital pharmacy(which can be 20-40% expensive than the pharmacies outside.) people in order to save would prefer to buy outside the hospitals or to government owned pharmacies. But if you prefer that all your meds will be purchased inside the hospital - you maynot need a runner. Ypu just need to deposit large amount of money.
Had the best meal in a long while at Vikings in Iloilo.

What language dialect is spoken in Iloilo?
Dialect - Hiligaynon. People - Ilonggo.
Located in the island of Panay, Iloilo Province main City is Iloilo City - the Regional Capital of Western Visayas. Known as the original Queen City of the South, City of Love and the Heart of the Philippines. Now recognized as the UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in the Philippines.
