That rigger is a film star. Loved watching his rigging instructions. Great. Congratulations with the standing masts!

Those Ford Lehmans engines are absolutely awesome. A very simple engine design that last forever. Will out live most popular modern marine engines.

Having grown up in Anacortes in the 40's and 50's, it's a pleasure seeing the scenery as you work on your Formosa. The whole waterfront and Cap Sante marina area have changed so dramatically since I sailed and raced my Scandinavian Folkboat with the AYC in the late 60's -early 70s.
Loved this episode and the rigger...looking forward to your splash. Just don't take the wires off the champagne bottles too early...on one of our launchings, the bottles sat in the sun longer because of a delay in getting the boat in the water, and they all started popping off early.
Merry Christmas to you and your crew!

The amount of work in such a relatively small space is staggering but what is even more mind-boggling is your tenacity, perseverance, and sense of humor (and Searle's mechanical genius). Looking forward to the splash.

All your months of hard work and wads of cash are paying off; the ol' girl is looking like a real boat with those beautiful new masts. What an incredible find in that rigger, Kent! He is not only entertaining, he is knowledgeable and loves sharing his knowledge. Great job with the refurbishing!

I take it, the engine has a water temp and pressure gauge connected up? Extra bilge pumps, hose connector clamps, Bunghole stoppers for every through-hole placed near it, secured. Quick patch emergency gear in case there is a hull leak. Emergency Alarm for bilge water level? Gaskets seals around propane tank locker, with overboard venting. Cabin extinguisher for Electrical/oil/gas fire, one in the engine room the other in the solon area. Aye, the Ship is looking good Arrrgh, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy NewYear.

The furler you have chosen, probably not randomly, is the only brand (except Reckmann of course) that has not gotten cheaper or more "plastiky" over the last few decades. Rather, they have re-designed it to be WAY better than the original 3250 and better than the popular alternatives.
They're bulletproof. They are bonafide REEFING furlers. Maybe a little heavy for racing around the bouys, but imo the only ones you can rely on when the caca hits the ventilador. Which is one thing you can count on. Excellent choice.
    Merry Christmas!

When changing the oil filter, poke a hole in the top with a screwdriver then let it drain back in to the motor before removing. Some oil will seep out but nearly as much as just pulling it off.

Aubrey? Can you explain how your episodes run? I’ve tried to binge watch but you can’t have been doing this for 14 seasons? I’ve tried to start from season 1 but that doesn’t seem to work.? I’d like to see how you got to this point but it just seems to be stabs in the dark. Can you explain. Love what you and Cyril have done with this Formosa. I’m a big Cat fan but the size of this beauty has made me fall in love with a monohull. Are you planning on sailing around the Pacific Northwest to start? I sure hope so but wonder how she would perform in our light winds in this area. Cheers from just up the border in Vancouver Canada. And best of the season to you and your clan. Doug in Vancouver.

With those upside down filters I just poke a hole in the center of the top and wait for the oil to drain back into the pan. I usually do that before draining the old oil out and by the time it is finished you can spin the filter off without making a mess. The only down side is that the film left in the filter will continue to leak out so you want to get it in the trash as soon as possible so it doesn't leak and make a mess after being so neat and clean.
