    The Kenyan fuel system needs to address using the Racor (Parker Hannifin) fuel filters. Your filters turn direction approximately 6X when fuel comes out to engine. The center tube does not reach the top of the filter & that’s where your air pocket is when you come in on a wake. Your mfr addresses this problem w/an electric fuel pump pressurizing the system. This forces the water & contaminated fuel into the third stage. A better choice is Dahl Model 150 manufactured by Baldwin Filters. Fuel only turns 2x. Comes in and out the top. Does not spin the fuel. It decompresses it and has at least 3X the flow rate of your filters. Ease of service. Turn T handle and the whole lower unit drops and comes out for ease of service. Also has a bleed valve on top. This comes from a retired marine fuel filter specialist. Good Luck.

    A yard changing their policies mid haul out and then trying to enforce those new rules on you after you've already signed to be hauled out and to work on your own vessel are grounds for a lawsuit. Especially if they have no intentions of immediately beginning work on your boat while requiring you to continue to pay daily hard stand fees.

    • @toddr2265
      @toddr2265 Před 2 lety +14

      Yep. Changing the conditions of a previously negotiated contract mid job is an easy lawsuit win. If you didn't have notice of those conditions while considering if you should enter into the original contract with them, then they are in breach. I'd retain an attorney.

    • @terrykeever3280

      It may have had to do with their insurance coverage. Getting a waiver for you to sign that you assume all responsibility for damages incurred while on the stands may have helped. Moot now.

    I have live here in Anacortes since 2005, and boating out of here since 1995. I have been surprised that you have been able to do all the work you have, since that yard area your in is considered a "storage " yard. I hope your waiting until next summer, to make the trip down the WA coastline. Nice to actually see you rebuilding that boat. A lot of work !

    Having a dual fuel filter system is money well spent. I was in charge of the engine room while under way so having a backup filter means you can stay under way and deal with the clean out process to ready back. The diesel is very dirty and attracts water from the air by nature so you have to filter the fuel. I served on a air craft rescue ship for training the army corps to pilot a P-51 but first had to pass training the T-37. Our ship was large enough to pick up a down T-37 and rescue a pilot at the same time. Our battery banks were another area in the engine room to deal with. We had two engines but only one for drive the other was a generator but they both were diesel and the filtering of the fuel was constant duty thanks to a dual system. The bridge did not have the alarm feature nor they never knew when we switch over the filter as long as we were under way life was good. Pretty old ship slow but mighty. Very analog based information lights and bells mostly plus a phone directly wired to the bridge so no shore calls to honeys.

    We lived near to a park with a pond and lots of ducks, geese, etc.. We had a little pot-hole in our driveway only 3' across, but a pair of ducks thought that was a nice place to bring all of their little baby ducks. So for days and weeks we enjoyed watching this duck- family in our pot-hole in our driveway. My sister-in-law became worried about these ducks in the road and decided to take the babies to the pond at the park. She carefully gathered up all of the ducklings into a box and carefully took them to the pond and released them.
    Sadly, all the other ducks at the pond attacked the little ducklings mercilessly. The mated pair of ducks never forgave my sister-in-law, and would attack her when they could. If ever I want to make my sister-in-law cry uncontrollably, I have only to mention it. Sad, but kind of funny too.

    I am a lil’ stuck on the vacuum gauge holding pressure after the engine is shut off.
    The intake manifold will not retain any vacuum after the engine is shut off due to many different reasons. Even on a diesel, vacuum should be regulated by either the crankcase, or an external vacuum pump, which would also lose pressure. The only way it would retain pressure is on the low-side, depending on where you were measuring the pressure.

    We moved Watoosh up from Bonaire to Puerto Rico a month ago. Our new lithium batteries are doing great. We have completed a number of projects and now need to replace our refrigerator compressor. The projects never seem to end! A word about Bonaire. We were there for six months which was as long as we could stay. You cannot anchor so you are either in a Marina or in the mooring field. We were in the mooring field paying $10/day. The fees are going up to as much as $45/day. I encourage all cruisers to reach out to Stinapa and express their concerns about such a huge rise in fees.

    Cannot believe that a boatyard would change such a fundamental rule so quickly. It should come with six-months' notice or maybe a year. Sooner you're outa there the better! Ducklings are incredibly photogenic, everyone's gonna want some. Interesting coverage of the filter system I wonder why boats are more vulnerable to these problems than diesel cars or trucks? Perhaps it's because boats tend to stay in use for much longer leading to corrosion of the diesel tanks and lines. Anyhow, you look well set now. Good luck with the rigging!

    That is an amazing system. I've seen polishers who hang out like fixers in a port and wait for things to happen. Not all boaters are lucky enough to afford such a fantastic system. That fuel system has more valves than a huge distillery ! He must have retired from a distillery lol. I've thought about having a chicken coup on board. Would need to be a REALLY large boat for that. This system cleans fuel but will not clean crap that sits on the bottom of tank. Why should we clean the fuel tank bottom? In a kicked up sea and you need the engine tossing of the boat can cause fuel problems. Clean tank out by opening fuel access holes. Visually check fuel in a glass bottle for quality before putting fuel in your tank. Put fuel treatment in fuel to prevent mold building up due to water. Suck fuel off the bottom of your tank with a pump to ck tank for dirt or water. Keep your tanks filled to prevent condensation.
    Your can purchase a pre-filter funnel when buying fuel away from home port.
