you may already know this; in the actual released cut, Stevie plays the drums himself, something he did often - almost every song on his seminl album 'songs in the key of life' is him on drums and assorted instruments
Okay, we all know how awesome Stevie Wonder is, so can we just take a second to appreciate how incredible that trumpet player is? I was not aware fingers could move that fast.
Good Lord.... So good...it makes my head spin. The horns coupled with the vocal melody and the riff...so intricate. Hard to imagine a sequence of sounds can be so pleasing and satisfying to the soul. What can you say about this.....one of the greatest artistic contributions to the world.
Have you seen how Stevie plays the riff? Totally unique. I never noticed that he plays the F# with his right index. I always assumed all was done ont he one hand. Dam. He tapping the top bit and that is what adds the groove. Theres the magic.
This song started playing on the radio when I turned it on in my car while driving... For those five or so minutes this song played, my car was, literally, the Funk Mobile.
Despite having a disability, he continued his life and career like it was nothing. This video demonstrates the passion he had playing his own music, what a character!!! :)
I know what it is like to see blurry because everyone thought it was in my mind that I needed glasses. Having a vision problems is harder than you think if you can read this or see twenty feet away without seeing blurry. People, psychology is messed up. Like to me it is weird like superstitions.
Drummer, high as a kite, Trumpet player top notch, session players Brilliant. And there are no words to even describe Stevie. He is soul and r&b Royalty.
YEP! The man released 5 albums 30-40 years ago whose relevance still resonates. I am a massive music fan in all areas, but nobody has cut across genres like Stevie.Bless him.
Wonder's 22 Grammys, Lifetime Achievement Award, 50+ "Top 40 Singles," Golden Globe, Academy Award for Best Original Song, along with countless other recognitions, awards, and honors, speak for themselves. He is a legend.
Stevie Wonder is an inspiration. I listen to sub-genres of metal, rock and punk. But as a musician I can honestly say this man is an inspiration. Coming from the man himself "Music is a word within itself, in a language we all understand".
This song is so freeking great. Love the drums, bass, and that incredibly good trumpet that goes through my ear like a sword! And synthesizers and Stevie's voice and fingers on those keyboards makes this jam so awesome!
Stevie directs the band with his head moves and facial expressions - Just look how his bass player is so focussed on him - They were all such a tight unit.
I think they did a study on this video and it has been determined that it is scientifically impossible to get more funky than this. Stevie reached Absolute Funk
It's a shame that most of my generation (teenagers) think that vocalists such as 1D overrule talent such as Wonder. His music is utterly mesmerising and there's power and thought which comes with the incredible melody in the background. Absolutely brilliant. I love Stevie Wonder, he's so talented.
I noticed that tons of modern teens are flocking to the true music artists from back then. Just read the comments in any old-school music video. Gives me hope that new generations will get inspired. I have this suspicion that we're moving into a new renaissance of music. Maybe not now, but in a few years/next decade. It's bound to happen. Stuff has been deteriorating far too long now, it must go up again. That's the natural cycle. I definitely can't wait.
The words... wow! "When you believe in things that you don't understand, then you suffer" "the devils on the way" "Rid me of the problem, Do all that you can, Keep me in a daydream, Keep me going strong, You don't want to save me, Sad is my song"

I've played a lot of blues/jazz piano but I'm not even close to being able to slap the keys like stevie. I'm talking just about the visual style of the way he plays, it's so unique and cool. I've tried to imitate it but he's the greatest for sure.
Wish you many more best years to come. When I heard this song for the first time, I was living in the Bronx. Now I'm in Bangkok this song really take me back. Thank you very much.

The funkiest funk that ever funk'd a funk.
Absolute masterpiece.
Agreed!
You said it Josh, 8 notes in and I'm dancing! Still feeling it in my soul: I'm 65. Get your groove on brother! 😆
Steve Madaio is awesome on trumpet. He played with so many top artists during his career. Sadly he died last year of a heart attack. RIP Steve
No fckin' way, he's still alive in da' big house and his name is Ron Jeremy!
So did Willy big eyes Smith on drums
@@zhoubaidinh403 Ron-Jeremy-is-blowin-the-skin-flute-in-prison...loooool
Now this is what's called locking down a groove. Awesome drummer.

starman714 hell, on most of his albums and their songs he played nearly every instrument himself
starman714
Dazzling He's still alive lol
Harry Byrne he's alive in the flesh too lol - he was just at his own tribute ceremony hosted by the 2015 Grammy people lol
Little Stevie got that clavi burpin' like a brand new set of tupperware bowls!!!
Okay, we all know how awesome Stevie Wonder is, so can we just take a second to appreciate how incredible that trumpet player is? I was not aware fingers could move that fast.
Dizzy Gillespie.
One of the most incredible songs ever written, there's so much going on here it baffles the mind.
So true ... 👌
Agree. Complex melodies and rhythm absolutely locked into place by the genius of SW.
Yeah Him and Jimi Hendrix had it going on … no doubt … !!!
One of the top 10 best songs ever made...

I approve. Steve is blessed. A creator like god
Well said.
Good Lord.... So good...it makes my head spin. The horns coupled with the vocal melody and the riff...so intricate. Hard to imagine a sequence of sounds can be so pleasing and satisfying to the soul. What can you say about this.....one of the greatest artistic contributions to the world.
This is not even the best recording of this song. Unbelievably amazing song and artist!
Gosh, I think his vocal on this are better than the albums....
has to be one of the Funky-est bass lines of all time
Those little fills during that end break had me all like "UUGHN funky!!!"
it's not the bass but the clavinet, the bass part is pretty simple actually
Have you seen how Stevie plays the riff? Totally unique. I never noticed that he plays the F# with his right index. I always assumed all was done ont he one hand. Dam. He tapping the top bit and that is what adds the groove. Theres the magic.
philster611 one of my favorite a #1hit from Steve I think is from 1974
Benny Jacob-It is from 1972
I just love watching his hands move when playing the piano. It's so effortless
It is like E.T. would do :-))
It looks like, he's just faking it :-)
With Ron Jeremy on the Trumpet... There ain't no faking anything ;)
@yankeez99 it's not a piano it's a clavinet and you can clearly match it at the beginning of the song
A masterpiece from Mr. Stevie...:)
Brian Powers wonderful song
One of the greatest songs to come out of the seventies! I can listen on a loop for an hour. My happy early teenage years ❤
This song started playing on the radio when I turned it on in my car while driving... For those five or so minutes this song played, my car was, literally, the Funk Mobile.
Those bongos are 🔥🔥🔥 in this version. Nice slower tempo, too. Adds to the groove…and that last minute. 😮
After all these my jaw still drops when I see Stevie W. playing this master piece.
Despite having a disability, he continued his life and career like it was nothing. This video demonstrates the passion he had playing his own music, what a character!!! :)

Considering Stevie Wonder's considerable music talents, I would argue that most people are more disabled than he is
this is the grooviest bit of music on earth i almost forgot to breath
See kids, this is why you don't do drugs 😂😂😂
I miss the funk of the 70’s. Nothing better anytime of the day.
BEST SUPERSTITION VERSION !
Drummer, high as a kite, Trumpet player top notch, session players Brilliant. And there are no words to even describe Stevie. He is soul and r&b Royalty.

Now there is a brilliant man. He has more talent in his left hand than every current mainstream "pop star" combined.
I just love watching his hands move when playing the piano. It's so effortless

The apex of Hohner clavinet funkiness! What a groove!
Michael was the King of Pop, James was the Godfather of Soul, that makes Stevie the King of Funk!
Being blind ,he has contributed through his music more than those who can see .
Stevie Wonder is an inspiration. I listen to sub-genres of metal, rock and punk. But as a musician I can honestly say this man is an inspiration.
Coming from the man himself "Music is a word within itself, in a language we all understand".
That trumpet player can blast!
And the drummer and bass player were following each other beautifully.
Damn what a band of talented musicians!
Stevie really is a wonder.
A very gifted artist. He refused to let his blindness stop him from becoming the music icon that he is now. God bless you, Stevie Wonder.
This song is so freeking great. Love the drums, bass, and that incredibly good trumpet that goes through my ear like a sword! And synthesizers and Stevie's voice and fingers on those keyboards makes this jam so awesome!
Holy shit...The raw talent/musical ability in that room...what even...
This funk beat is groovy!
Stevie rocks, He laid down a piano track, then 7 more tracks over the first to get that ""Stevie" sound...☺
Playing keyboards like that... That must be real life hacking. Love this song
The trumpet and Stevie's singing are just phenomenal!
The album version is a classic but this, this version is in a class of its own.
Stevie just plays and sings so naturally that he makes it look and sound like magic.
The Afro cup is THE haircut of the black people music, it's so class !!!
Stevie Wonder is a genius possessed of a sublime gift, Happy Birthday Stevie!
I don't think that is what sublime means.
the arrangement? priceless
That large cat on bass has more soul than this whole current generation.
Insane, I love this...musical genius
22 MILLION going on 23 million have had their ears served with this tasty bit of Superstition by the great Master Blaster!

That song, but the last minute blows my head clean right off.
So nostalgic! 1973 was a good year ;)
Best funk/R&B hook ever written
No auto tune, just instruments and pure talent. I miss that.
All this many years before auto-tune, thank you very much.
This music is MAGIC !
This is when the God of music looked down and said. `I`m just gonna role a joint and enjoy listening to this for a while.`
Other than the audio quality this is my fav version of this song , so damn funky

I'm not superstitious, but i am a little stitious...
Careful using someone else's quote, that's called identity theft and it's not a joke
“You people are jerks. Imagine if you had left Stevie Wonder on the floor of that bathroom instead of me.”
The serious blind genius, gotta love him, because I do, love ya Stevie.
Its funny how a blind man can see the beauty in people better than most of us.
Excellent song.....
The nail on the head, I think this one goes hand in hand with the Barry White's songs. A little bit earlier, but it hung on for long.
I'm not superstitious, but i am a little stitious...

Very superstitious, writings on the wall,
Very superstitious, ladders bout' to fall,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past
When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way
Very superstitious, wash your face and hands,
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can,
Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin' strong,
You don't wanna save me, sad is my song
When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way, yeh, yeh
Very superstitious, nothin' more to say,
Very superstitious, the devil's on his way,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass,
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past
When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer, Superstition ain't the way, no, no, no
Holy fuck! That is just SPELLBINDING!!! Stevie in his prime.....this,ladies and gentleman, is MUSIC.
I've played a lot of blues/jazz piano but I'm not even close to being able to slap the keys like stevie. I'm talking just about the visual style of the way he plays, it's so unique and cool. I've tried to imitate it but he's the greatest for sure.
Stevie Wonder is the man he make good music!
Just because someone's disabled doesn't mean they can't be awesome. Just look at this guy and Beethoven. One guy's blind, the other's deaf.
The amount of funk in this song is unmatched.
Jesus christ this version is just so damn tight, especially that intro. Everyone hits it just right
Who's listening to this in 2024?
Thumb Up if you still listen to This in 2016
