There's no "true" ending
Man became the doom slayer.
The fact that garcia lets him drive in the true ending is really endearing. He acknowledges how strong he is so he just lets him lead the way instead of making him follow his steps. Great detail. My only complaint is that there was no "cult" ending like faith 2, but everything else was a massive step up.
The endings are basically dependent of John's strong will. The more faithful he is, the better is the ending (and also the opposite).
@@ConvertingMinds More on not facing his fears though imo. You cant undo any of the seals without facing the horror. The final ending is technically the ritual one but honestly feels more like he gave up than actually went agaisnt his faith like in 2
I think the damnatio memoriae ending is the culmination of all cult endings. John became the perfect vessel and was taken by the devil at the end. He had zero faith left
@@MegaBlair007 And also... Looks like "Damnatio Memoriae" is a state where you completely lose your consciousness and memories but your body doesn't die. Probably a lot of the cult members suffers from Damnatio Memoriae.

the damnatio memoriae ending never fails to make me tear up. after all john's gone through, his mind finally crumbles, and he gives in to the thing he'd once been trying to destroy.
Someone said that maybe this ending is the conclusion of all the 3 Cult Endings:
"The Offering", "Initiation", "A New Vessel". This explains why Amy doesn't forgive John.
And the sad thing is Lisa and Garcia probably died because the cults

@@user-su6ts9wm1h In the true ending, Amy forgives John and allows him to exorcise the evil from her body. She's dead, but her spirit is at peace.
Think of it this way: she's technically been dead for the entire Faith trilogy, but her body was kept alive by the evil. When she let John finish what he started, the evil left, and she could move on.
Someone pointed this out on a different video: when John lifts his cross to free Amy in the true ending, it's gold, like it was during Chapter One and the events beforehand. His faith has been restored and the cross has regained its luster.
Chapter 2 has a silver cross so this would definitely make sense

john is surprisingly stoic for a lot of the game (consider when he blankly stared at a weird gray mirror guy thing[?] while being completely unable to move) and the only time he screams is when he gets pushed down a flight of stairs by said gray mirror guy thing and yet he feels the need to mention that he doesn't really like this gloomy little table
During Gary's first boss fight, where you fight his more human form, he can actually summon the Deer that kills John in Ending 4....I'm unsure of the implications.

Your wording is misleading; he's not pointing the gun at John because Lisa died, it's because John's faith is at an all-time low and that vulnerability is a risk he doesn't want to take.

This game is genuinely so terrifying. The "I'm not Lisa" line is delivered in such a way that it just leaves you with chills.
An even more chilling line when you kill her while being possessed by Alu.

Turn off the light = try to go outside (1 screen-ish, from the lobby)
Allred puppetry = Go to the inner part of the basement (5 screen transitions from the lobby)
I honestly thought that was the only way out of the Nightmare scene lol
I never tried just leaving the house so, in all my playthroughs, I went in the basement and saw that scene with Allred and Amy
The game is definitely creepy but this scene specifically was on ANOTHER LEVEL IT WAS TERRIFYING I’ve never been creeped out by anything in a game more than this

What I speculate is that Father Garcia forces John to come with him because, at this point, any moment that John has to think about what he's done will only crumble his faith, which Father Garcia cannot allow to happen. So yes, John is too deep by this point, in a certain sense.

One thing I love about this game is the sound design. Most of what your hear here, especially during enemy encounters are these harsh, loud, strident and crushingly oppressive soundscapes that pump the tension up to 100, almost like something you would find on a Merzbow album if Merzbow decided to make an 8bit Harsh Noise record. And I love the way it plays with it's own volume, shifting up and down and between the sequences of dead silence, it creates a fantastic dynamic. It reminds me a lot of the early Silent Hill games, but less industrial in nature. Everything in this game is unpleasant to hear, the demon's screeches are absolutely blood curdling and even your own voice is very strange and unsettling. Honestly the decision to have all voices being done by the SAM text to speech program is kinda genius, it enhances the overall 8bit retro aesthetic of the game while also providing more unnerving sonic palletes into the mix due to the uncanny valley feeling it evokes.
As much as this game gets praised I seriously think it's sound department should be appreciated more, it's very unique on it's own regard.
Agree 100% I love the original Silent Hill and when I took a look long ago about why that game was so good, I determined that a huge part of it was the sound..... on minute its dead silent, the next its got some strange unsettling background noise.... it was never predictable, never comfortable, never save..... which kept you on edge the entire time. This game did the same and I think was influenced by Silent Hill. Did you see that bathroom like area where the stuff started creeping over the mirror.... Silent Hill 3 had a bathroom that did that. Great stuff. Love this game. Love t he SAM text to speech. 10/10 game.
Merzbow did indeed make a sorta 8bit harsh noise record, it's "1930" and it's his best album to date.

I'm glad to finally find someone who posted the Neutral/Bad Ending! The impact of Father Garcia with a shotgun will stick with me for a long while. Man really knows who to punctuate his sentences with a reload.

it think he brought like at least 50/100 ammo and if he ran out of ammo he can use his cross but i think all of the thralls is already dead
The ATF are only useful for killing pets and arresting people for owning shoestrings(which by their own definition constitute a "machine gun"). Oh, and burning children to death, or murdering families because your shotgun had a barrel below an arbitrarily set length.

My favorite scene. At first i thought it was the Lord, and I didn't really like that he was willing to let me leave when so much was at stake, but i begrudgingly accepted it since I was ALSO so afraid and could sympathize with John. The story needed to give him an exit for my "not best route" and this was sufficient, i guess. Then it reveals that it was a flash back and we were talking about what happened with the Martins and i was like yoooooooooooooooooo and then in the end John admits that the devil showed up and tricked him and I was like YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO this game is 12/10.
It's very tastefully done, very effectively shows the ethereal/powerful nature of an angel or god.

after binging the series in the past hours I can say this is definitely one of my favourite pieces of horror in video games and it is just PHENOMENAL
Sigh...I definitely need to play this through again. I didn't experience even a quarter of what's depicted here.
My run: No elevator boss, no Gary fight, no super Miriam, didn't enter the crucible ("missed something in our search"), and the game ended right after I beat that part. My ending was the priest threatening me with the shotgun and the game just ending after that. I was left wondering why people were complaining the game was too hard.

It's used to great effect with Gary in fact. Lowercase letters while talking since he's "human" like all of us. But when he finally sheds his human shell:

Wait so does nothing change if you get possessed in the 46:40 bossfight and kill her? I saw some extra dialoge when Markiplier had it happen, but he restarted the fight so I'm not sure if it changes the outcome.
It blocks the good ending if you let Lisa die, will direct you to the ending where Garcia points the gun at you.
In the Demo version this would lead to an Ending, but in the Final version it triggers Lisa's death permanently.

If you kill her and let the officer die in the hospital and don't manage to take out the unholy trinity (secret bosses) then you will get that variant of the ending where García forces you to go with him by pointing at you with the shotgun
I am surprised ya didn't get the Seal Lady inside the elevator once ya went to the 5th floor during the puzzle where you need to reach the 7th one.

During 'Secret Cult 2', I can't remember if John was Possessed or Drugged while this was happening, but regardless of which he was I don't know if either option increased his strength in any way, but I do kind of like the implication that just John on his own is somehow strong enough to just completely tear people apart, like he supplemented his waning Faith with a Gym Membership or something
