A tough one all around, It's difficult to assess when someone's being genuine and not putting on a show when every single person is attempting that throughout the day when arrest or detainment is imminent, I can understand that situation from my own experience in other countries to some degree dealing with people with questionable motives, although you said it best, this whole situation would have been much better if injected with some compassion. I appreciate but do not envy their job, or the constant situations police are forced to deal with on a regular basis, everything is easy to criticize in hindsight, hopefully if anything, some lessons can be learned by those involved and it not be repeated.
I had to wait a good 12 hours before comenting to make sure I didn't say something just out of pure émotion. I'm still upset but able to manage it. I agree it's not an easy job, but there must be a different protocol for mental health issues. It was very clear from the first 10 seconds that this person needed help beyond what the hospital provided. The insuing attitude of that first officer is where all he'll broke loose. Every other person involved in this video followed in lack of professionalism. She clearly asked for a preacher for help. This is beyond the pale and it sickens me to think they could just shove her into a car that way when her breathing was so labored, without compassion...to serve and protect ..God help us.
I appreciate your comment, and I must say, I adore the first sentence you wrote! Emotions alone cannot elevate us as a society. What I hope we can take away from this situation is the importance of showing compassion towards others. It saddens me that amidst this chaos, no one stood up for her and advocated for fair treatment. All it takes is one person to make a difference and prevent such occurrences from happening again.
Yes, one person is all it takes and this just solidified my desire to walk with compassion and teach by example in all situations, big or small, where we might turn the other way...
