    Finally .. I’ve been waiting to see this video.. Got up this morning a here it is..
    Yes I have full systems in a very small space..
    I will do this mod when its time..
    I have tripped/kicked the current wheels a few time.. fortunately I always wear my safety boots.
    The space and safety benefits alone will make this mod worth it..

    I been subscribing for a while and had to comment. My husband put a set of these on our kitchen island a couple months ago that we wanted to put on wheels. After we got everything done I had to call Bob and tell him how amazing they were. Very nice guy and very nice product.

      Bob is a great guy and engineer. We're working on the R8 Smart Caster. I'll receive the next prototype this week, which should be the final version. Bob and I had a long FaceTime meeting yesterday, addressing the issues. Afterwards, he went to work on the updates and notified his shop that Monday is all about the R8. Mahalo, Ron😎🤙

      I am planning to use my two sets of R7 Smart Casters on a Paulk Stand Up desk for my wife and me. They will be mounted under the bottom recess so that when retracted, they will be invisible. Bob Bennington hit this one out of the park.

    I have a suggestion: I wonder if the wheel support should be triangular to better distribute the weight.
    Another idea is to make it easier to lift the cart by creating a downforce lifting tool consisting of a bar and a roller. The bar would be inserted diagonally into the cart's frame and onto its base.

    Wow. Ron, have you ever spent far too much time and effort _'inventing' a thingy..._ only then to find a ready-made solution? That's what I just did.
    I'm building a machine bench with fold-away legs which required casters to drop down about 4". I got it working by stacking plywood with hardwood track/guides. I searched all over for retracting castors, hoping to avoid building from scratch. But now, here they are.

    So if the wheels are down and you are “helping” the cart go over an obstruction such as a power cord, etc, it sounds like you will unintentionally raise the wheels by lifting the end of the cart to help it over the cord.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  Před 13 dny +3

      Anything is possible, but I don't go over my cords.

    • @bw162
      @bw162 Před 13 dny +1

      What? ‘You don’t go over your power cords? It maybe hard but since you are intending to sell these, you might expand your market to consider circumstances other than your own. 50% of my job sites are not on perfectly finished floors with no flaws, carpet edges, other contractor debris. Even client patios often have flagstone or other uneven surfaces that my mobile equipment can’t roll around on easily. If you are making a work surface that you simple carry in and never move, why put wheels on it at all?

    • @bdm1000
      @bdm1000 Před 8 dny

      @@bw162 keep in mind the smart kart is also optional. The Paulk Smart Station and Paulk Smart Bench also work without the Smart Kart. That's one possible solution. Another option might be some sort of secondary safety (for lack of a better word), so that IF the Kart did come down unexpectedly, it would be high enough off the ground to protect people's toes and property. Or, the safety could lock the wheels unless it is manually overridden.
      As for Ron himself, he has a system where I can see that not being a problem. For one, he uses a different Kart to wheel his two benches on and off the trailer (with larger wheels, and this is not retractable). He also plugs all his tools into a squid which is plugged into the CT 26 on the bottom of the cart. The CT 26 is then plugged into single coiled extension cord that is not easily tangled. So once it's in place, the new design MIGHT be fairly safe. The key, I would think, anyway, would be to use the right cart to get his benches onto the job and then merely be mindful once they are set up on their smart karts. I still like the idea of a safety, however. Something to ensure they cannot disengage unless it is absolutely desired. Between Ron and Bob I am sure they can figure it out.

    • @bw162
      @bw162 Před 8 dny

      @@bdm1000 Don’t think you read my concern accurately. I am not concerned about “safety” or “toes”. Just noting that, as he demonstrated, if you lift one end of the table, the casters retract. In many circumstances, I “help”my mobile benches and mobile equipment over a cable cover, expansion joints in floors and other things that bind the casters. With his design, that lift retracts the casters. His mobile bench is a good design but I don’t think it was his intent to tailor it so tightly that any prospective buyer would have to use it exactly as he does in the same setting and environment….as he says, “I don’t go over cables’. Thus,anyone else’s concern or experience isn’t relevant. In the real world, casters do get snagged on many things when being moved whether it’s at a job site or shop. Instead of defending his design, he might want to heed other woodworkers’ comments even if they are critical.

  • @cherrypieforbreakfast1499

    Pretty neat. I have found that I do trip over the end casters and toe bar occasionally. Not a big deal but it does happen sometimes.
    Does not happen if I have a cradle hanging off one end, but still, I'm looking forward to the finished, debugged model.
