I have the A53, and it's great. Sure, the top of the line flagship is a better phone, but at over twice the price, it was a no-brainer for me. The tiny bit of lag is meaningless in the larger picture. For the money I spent, I got a great phone, with an awesome display, a massive battery and years of updates.
Maybe I'm strange, but I don't need the latest and greatest of anything to be happy. All I care about is that it works, and has the features I need. That's why I'm satisfied with my 20 year old car, instead of having to have a new one. That's why I'm perfectly content with the A53. It looks good, works great, games well, and I love it.
So well put completely agree with you.
A52s >>>
Very well said!!!!!
@@kodakblack531 I got mine through Tracfone, and ended up paying a tad over $300.00 brand new. As for why I didn't get an older flagship, there's multiple reasons. Cost, age, updates; these are just a few of the reasons, but all very good ones.
Can you do a little banking on it... like deposit checks etc?
The comparison is really great. Making people to understand and choose the phone according to the budget and daily necessaries. Where mostly people just buy expensive phone for the minimal daily use.
$260 for the A53 at Walmart, or $1000+ for the s22, With both being simular in performance. Do I need to say anymore?
I've had the a53 for for over a month. I've had no issues well worth it.
Is the battery as good as everyone says?
Seems like a mid range phone that doesn't have nearly as many compromises as normal. The processor seems to be the biggest stumbling block: have you noticed it improve on performance since you first bought the phone? Any tips for reducing hiccups?
@@bernlin2000 Looking towards an A53 as well but hearing that the chipset is not great. Would love to hear about any existence of lag too
A breath of diction clarity sadly missing in 80% of other reviewers...keep up the good work!
I was heavily considering the S22+ to get the larger battery (still smaller than the A53) and larger display, but in the end, being 50% cheaper and having an SD card sealed the deal for me. My only concern is that the lag that always comes to an Android at some point will come much more quickly to the A53 and I will end up having to upgrade more quickly. I had the S7 for 6 years and it was so slow I could barely use it. I don't want to get back to that for a while. I'm still considering switching to the S22+ with 256GB, but that price difference is just too significant. Great video. Thanks.
I would highly suggest upgrading to the S22+ while you have the chance. A53 in particular is a laggy device compared to its competition, especially comparing it with the s22 series. Sure, the price jump is steep but you'll thank yourself on the long run
6 years is good 👍
I've used the A52S for 6 months and now upgraded to S22+ (ultra was too big for me). While I can say the the A52S did all things right (except for the camera), the S22+ is doing everything much better but also provides the pleasure of using the device (camera included). The A52S stayed in the family (that's why I actually upgraded) but I think on the long run, the S22+ is the right choice. If you switch devices under a year or so..then stick to what you have.
you don't have to upgrade to combat lag. one thing is people always want the latest update to the OS for some reason, but Apple was actually caught purposefully making new versions of the OS slow down older models of iphone to get people to upgrade. I wouldn't be surprised if android does the same (whether purposefully or simply due to OS bloat)
So, keep your phone on the OS version it shipped with (do the security update if available) and then every year or so back up your files and factory reset the device. you won't deal with lag this way.
@@rokko_hates_japan I agree 100%, but it seems Verizon forces the updates on you. I keep denying the updates but after a while they force them. I never update unless there is some issue with the current OS/app or it is forced on me.
Awesome video comparing as always watching with my S21 plus Sir
Such an honest review. Thank you.
I like to use phones till they die, so I prefer flagships as the difference in performance in every category get larger the longer you go into the phones life cycle. Coming from someone who has used both S and A series phones in the past.
A series have an awesome chepsets too like snapdragon 778g it's better than snapdragon 860
It is slightly less than the Snapdragon 865
This is considered a terrible level of power, and it is also one of the processors that is considered better than what Snape Dragon offers these days, such as the 888 and the regular 8 gen 1
Watch this video and you will understand what I mean 😁
Excellent review! The A53 photos hold up really well in good light. However, I have an old Galaxy S3 that still takes really nice photos in good light. I've kept it solely for taking photos.

Hi thanks for the vid - what I want to know is can I use the same USB connect and charger for my new A53 or do I have to go buy a new one - seems that when I have the S10+ the standard USB conect to the wall piece was larger then the area pluged into the phone and now with the A53 they seem to be the same size and clearly does not fit into the charger peice to the wall - I short I simply plugged my old adapter into the new phone and hopefully it will charge it
I just got the a53 & it's okay, I wasn't about to spend 1g on a phone just for pictures. & a bit better speed.
Thanks 😊 you got a new subscriber right now, love your accent & voice!
Appreciate this review thank you, my issue is I do not like these bigger phones . 6.2 to 6.7 inch is way overkill in my opinion I much prefer 5.8 , 6.0 . I am still using my s7 edge from new which I got on contract 6 months after release. It's still holding up well with charges and zero damage on it but the usb port has a meltdown every other day . Also really like my 3.5 jack and physical home button.
S7 edge is actually sized between S22 and S22+. Having bigger screen does not necessarily mean bigger phone...
S7 has bezels while new 6.2 phones don't do they're same size
@@jimmylives s7 edge is 5.8 inch with 5.5 or 5.1 cant rember display. Also I said s7 edge has physical button and 3.5 which I like. Bigger displays are pointless in my opinion so in couple years will ppl walk around with a tablet held to there ears ? So as you say they are not the same size at all. That being said it's just my preference.
@@pauljohnson9326 I hear ya. I did like the home button. I just looked it up - S7 Edge has a 5.5 inch display and the dimensions are 5.94 x 2.86 inches, while the S22 has a 6.1 inch screen and the dimensions are 5.75 x 2.78 inches .... so the S22 device is actually slightly smaller, although not by much. But I hear ya, you could have a smaller screen and keep the home button. My first phone without the home button was the LG V20, and I thought it would take me forever to adjust to the absence of the home button lol. But it ended up being a lot easier than I thought. That was my experience, anyway.
Usually girls prefer that they have small hands but also todays phones are smaller in size with bigger screens
I think the exynos 1280 works great
Fantastic video! Thanks for the info
Super good comparison. Thank you!
great review, thanks!!
THANK YOU for this great review
Could you please tell me where you get your wallpapers?
Depends if you need a phone with the better chipset then the s22 but if youre just a average consumer that only use your phone for basic tasks then the a53
Nice comparison showing how far samsung flagship vs midrange. But I bought 2nd hand huawei P30 pro rather A53, I got premium phone performance and great cameranas well.
Is it good for gaming?? It's on my list too
thank you for this review. Regards from Costa Rica.
Your pictures locations are awesome 👍
You do omit a major difference! You can charge the S22+ Wirelessly and reverse wireless charging! I have the S21 Ultra personally which is a step up. Samsung phones come at a premium but you do get that quality software support too! I have subscribed anyway like your clarity!
Reverse wireless charging is such a useless feature. Why do you want to tax your tiny phone battery that’s highly expensive to replace and use it as a charger? Sure it’s kind of cool in a pinch but ultimately it’s more useless than a headphone jack which they deemed obsolete.
@@deleqtronica8733 it can be a useful function if somebody you are with are desperate. Or for wireless earphones. The battery in the S21 Ultra is superb anyway. I agree about the headphone jack criminal about removing that!!
Thanks for the great comparison. 👍
Just purchased a new s22galaxy. The main problem I'm having with it is the battery does not last near as long as previous galaxies I've had. Yes,it charges quickly, but it also uses up the battery WAY to fast under normal conditions....
Give it a few more days till the phone remembers your habits.
This improves within a week or two. The S22 is amazing.
Same problem after I bought S22plus. Battery drains quickly but after few days/ weeks battery improves.
I've had my S22 for 3 months now and the battery life is still not great. It doesn't always last a day, especially if I'm using Bluetooth headphones, taking a lot of pictures or watching CZcams/netflix the battery drops quite quickly
I dont have any battery problem with my new S22plus. Battery is better than S20,S21,S10,S9
Very helpful information, I love it
The shorter wider aspect ratio is amazing. Easier to type with 2 hands with a slightly wider display too, dont have to reach as much to swipe down notification bar, etc..
Watched on A53. Does what i need of it. Functions quick when i press and works well with my Buds Live and Galaxy watch 5.
A series more and more par with flagships.
BTW searching a comparison of both your vid first, so watched. Weeks since last.
Mate im more interested in your watch strap. Is that a nato strap? I like the colour. You got a link to that?
Great video review Cam! What about A52s 5g vs the S22+... that would be closer ey?!
Not worth spending more for s22+
Great video! :)
Very helpful review for me. I'm still surviving (barely) with a S5 Active and am leaning towards an A53. I suspect this will be a major upgrade for me (lol). A couple other positives to note with the A53. Even though it is slightly longer than my S5 its actually slightly slimmer which is a good thing. My wife will be doing a similar upgrade and will like the narrower profile. Just to show how I'm somewhat stuck on the older features, I like that the A53 still has a micro sd card up to 1TB! Works great for someone who listens to a lot of music and not on Wi-Fi all the time. Sadly, the 3.5mm jack is also gone on the A53. I'll just have to deal with it. Moving to USB-C is fine. I don't see that as a disadvantage so I'm not totally stuck in the "old".
I'm still using my S6 active. For me it's more than enough. I basically use it to read, go online now and then and listen to music. The phone is more than enough for that. Going on 4 years that I have it. Bought it refurbished in 2018 for 200 bucks. I would never pay 1000 bucks for a phone. I wouldn't even pay that for a computer. My i5 computer was 600 bucks on sale from 800.
Look into a Sony Xperia. It has a jack and external storage.
@@isaidjoemantegna5132 Thanks. I'll take a look. I never heard of that one. Didn't know Sony was even making phones anymore.
An A52 would be a better choice if you really miss the headphone jack.
You're not going to get a replaceable battery, but a used S10e can go for under 200 bucks.
Excellent portrait of the information to enable me to make a choice of which Samsung phone to purchase. Did not make it to technical to the point you couldn’t understand. Thank you very much for this.
I may have missed it, but could you address the sounds, as I've had several Samsung's with very low volumes, esp. on phone.
Samsung should hire this guy...great

Load times are a pretty big deal. It'll only get worse with time. Spend more to get better support, better build and hardware that can handle itself.
@J L yep, totally agree. 100%

Nice review Cam.
I just bought an A53 for £265. I replace my mobile every 5 years and this seemed the best buy. Waterproof too so can be used as satnav on the bike.
Fine for an old git who doesn't worry about nits, colour saturation or what kind of plastic it is.
You need those nits on the rare sunny day we have here in blighty. I don't think the processor in the A53 will last you five years.
Waterproof? Definitely isn't
@@No-fq7rm settle down, he meant water resistant. You knew that.
you will be in a world of pain with that phone if you plan to keep it that long, my mom went with an a71 to replace her older s series and now after just only 2 years it's struggling to keep up.
@@Progan666 still have my iphone 6s plus 6 years with me. dunno where's that world of pain ur referring to
I still have the S10, works for me and I don't like too big of a screen. Thinking about the Z Flip 3 but just thinking. The A52 5G has a headphone jack, the A53 5G doesn't.
And the a53 doesn't come with a charging block. Just the wire. I learned that when I bought the phone last month. But they have an adapter that you can plug into the charging port that splits and makes it a aux output and charger
If you ever get to consider the A53, then consider getting the cheaper A33 because it's almost the same phone. The screen is 90Hz instead of 120Hz but the SoC is the same exynos 1280, a33 cameras are pretty good, it has the same 5000mAh battery etc and you'll save quite a bit of money. Bought a A33 for 240 for my sister and the A53 was 350..
Even better: get an A52S
Thats the last gen A53 with a better price, a much better processor (Exynos sucks) and overall nicer features.
@@overflow7276 true if you can find it cheap but in europe unfortunately costs almost the same as the a53 because everyone wants it hahaha
well except for the front camera being noticeably worse
@@carlosmiguel4756 yeah true, I've tried looking on eBay, Amazon, Onbuy etc but here in the UK the a52s is costs just as much as the A53.
So I grabbed what seemed to me as a bargain, it was the cheapest at the time that I could find, a new A53 with 8GB of ram and 256GB of storage for £329! It was only £30 more for double the storage. This was on Onbuy. I need a phone which gives me bang for my buck but has long software and security support. 🙂👍🏻

Many, many thanks for this brilliant unbiased review. I was originally going to go for the S22 Plus as I have always spent theextra on flagship phones but in the end I decided to go for the A53 and I am really glad I did because I love it. I am more than happy with the performance, lovely display and I am very pleased with the camera(s) yes the main camera does boost colours but I always used to do that in post processing on my previous phone so that is not an issue. I find that even though the A53 does not have optical zoom, the digital zoom is EXCELLENT even up to 4x and the detail captured is very impressive. I have not tried the ultrawide so can't comment on that but I think the macro lens is fabulous on the A53 offering tons of detail with only the night mode letting it down; the results are poor in my opinion. Selfies however are great. Do I regret not spending the extra on the S22 Plus? Hell no. I am more that happy with the performance of the A53, It's saving me loads of money and does a sterling job!!

Thanks for the video. I am way down in the budget phones. Looking to upgrade from a32 to an a53. I like my a32 but sometimes if freeze with alot of apps open.
I’m so torn. I still have the S7edge but it’s battery needs replacing for the 4th time and it has a vertical thin pink line on the right hand side of the screen. Starting to lag a lot and has a enclosed crack across the screen(nothing sharp poking out) I’m not very decisive and have been through so many reviews my head is spinning. Thank you for your clear review.
I upgraded to S21 almost 2 years ago and I miss the S7 Edge but I've never had its battery swapped so it was sluggish as hell. Get a used S9 or S10e and you can go a while longer without upgrading.
Very helpful clear comparison helping me make a wise decision on my budget
I got the A53 (8/256) couple of days back and it has everything I need in a smartphone at a very reasonable price with 4 years of software and 5 years of security patch updates.

I have an A52s model. Its the best package. Has ample power for everyday performance and even for gaming. VFM machine.
Seems Sansung is holding back on improvements. What happened to the note without beveled edges? Square as a noot should be. No memory card slot? No 3.5 plug for headphone? And getting more expensive? Pittysuch a powerful corporation is stingy out of fear of lacking technology.
Samsung done away with the Note series last year due to the lack of sales and them moving on to other phones.
if you want premium, get the s22 ultra and use it for 5 years+. Or just get something like the A53 and use it 2-4 years or until it's death. I don't feel like getting the s22 or the s22+, It's good but not that good nor the best.

Great review, very helpful thank you! My S8 is still kicking but I can tell it's slowing down and on its way out. Initially was going to opt for an S20 but cannot find one that's not a refurb so that led me to start looking into the S22. Sounds like it's good but not as flashy as it's price tag 😒

Sadly i dont own it but im saving up for that phone curently i have a a52 5g (not the a52s) and this thing sucks
I got the S22+ as I was under the impression the A53 does not have wireless charging? It's happened twice the my charging port has been faulty on 2 different phones, and wireless charging saved the day, as both times the phone had to be sent away to be fixed, with a turnaround time of about a month - the joys of living in a small town! I have an A30s as my backup phone now, and I won't lie, the S22 does give me battery anxiety - especially as we are having rolling blackouts 3 times a day in South Africa. Even though my poor backup phone is almost completely full of photos and videos that I haven't sorted yet, and is now painfully slow, the battery lasts 2 days. I must say that the port problem was only on the flagship phones, a Note 5 and a note 9. And a screen replacement for both too. The A30s hasn't given a moments trouble,;)
Does Anyone know where to get the background picture from the S22 in this video?
what's the wallpaper name on s22?

I like to buy used flagships because the quality is still there after the price has been forgotten
Also they tend to cost less for a couple of years old phone vs a brand new "mid range"
Used flagships are fine but the biggest downside is that after 2 years, batteries perform around 65% of their original.
I honestly think that Samsung is selling their products for way too high of a price, I got my a50 for 250 bucks, where when it was launched the phone costed around 350 bucks. But the A52s had a launch price of 550€ and the A53 of 500. And despite the fact that tech gets better after time you get less in the box than before. I can live without the charger because I've still got the a50's brick in the box untouched, but what reason did they have to remove the 3.5mm jack??
Honestly the A52 is still a better deal than the A53 alone because of the jack, because the rest of the phone is pretty much the same.

@@Native722 no feels great so far
Only bad thing is rear video camera and sometimes stutter lag when switching from apps to whichever otherwise it's a really great deal
