    I switched from the S20 5G to the A54 5G. Why?
    1. The A54 is about as fast as the S20 - fast enough for everyday use.
    2. I need the eSim/Dualsim function while using my 1TB memory card - no S model offers this.
    3. The differences are becoming less and less important for normal use in everyday life - just 3 years ago everything that the A54 offers would have been absolutely premium & the development has now progressed so far that you hardly notice the advantages of an S23. Display, games, applications & even the camera, everything runs smoothly & leads to good results. And if it sometimes takes half a second longer to load or start an application, who cares?
    4. There really isn't anything annoying or cheap-looking about the A54's performance in everyday use.
    5. The advantages of the S-Class are actually only the following:
    - Samsung Dex
    - USB OTG 3.1
    - wireless charging
    - slightly faster when launching the applications
...but there is no memory card slot.
Conclusion: the differences in everyday life are negligible for 95% of users - and do not justify a price difference of several $100 and there was never more premium in the A-class la with the A54. As simple as that.

Superb review of these two devices. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I'm in the market for a new phone, and was looking at the A53 to upgrade from my last generation LG. Alas, they have left the smartphone arena - the last iteration was a bit of a let-down - and I had to look elsewhere. I'm not a power user, so don't need the bleeding edge performance of a flagship device, but still don't want to end up with a budget device on par with a Kindle Fire in the performance category.
I've seen the A53 in action - good screen, decent camera, and snappy enough performance. So, if the A54 is even better, with the prospect of 4 years of updates and 5 of security support, well, it's a no-brainer! Over here in the UK, it can be had for less than £20 a month with unlimited everything, including no upfront cost for the device.

I think the A series did well with the exynos 1380 that is an equivalent of the older snapdragon 778g. Exynos to me has provided better battery life and it has only a good performance, sadly I doubt samsung will ever make exynos reach the flagship levels just because they had to make it not powerful enough for people to buy the flagships. I am using the oneplus 11 and the snapdragon 8 gen 2 still feels like it eats up the battery even though it was said to be more efficient through normal use. I am thinking of going back to the A series just because they are great all around phones, but the price is always a bit higher than other midrangers that are on par or even better than the previous A series phones.

Yes midrange phones are "90%" of a flagship when brand new but when OS updates, bloat and memory fill up a phone, over time that "small stutter" just grows and grows into something more noticeable that you just have that itch again to buy a new phone after a year or two.

I've spent a lot of money on flagship Samsung phones since the S3 came out, and I had a habit of breaking them. I finally grew up and managed to keep the same one for several years, the Note 9. After 5 years it started having issues though. Performance, battery life, and especially "burn in" on the OLED screen. I was planning on getting a Fold but they never got an internal S Pen option, and I got to thinking, do I need all the new flashy stuff? I basically just wanted my Note 9 again, and the a54 is the same size screen, bigger battery, equally powerful chip, even better aesthetics. The only drawbacks are the less scratch resistant screen, lower resolution (I always had battery saver on so it was 1070p anyway) and no notification LEDs. For 1/4 the price it's money well spent. I've had it about 3 months now and unless Samsung does something incredible with the flagship S or Z series, or neuters the mid range A series, I don't think I'll ever spend that much again.

I have the S23 and A52s, and honestly, the cheaper one would have been enough for me. The only thing that convinces me about the S23 is the size. It's a pity there are no mid-rangers in the 6" dimensions. The development of phones has kind of stalled, and manufacturers don't really have much to convince us with for the flagships. Apple clearly segregates models by crudely cutting out some features. Samsung has taken a different route, offering most features but slightly weaker. As a customer, I prefer Samsung's approach, and if the next one in the A series comes in a smaller size, I'll definitely take it. :)

A lot of the value difference depends on HOW you are purchasing your phone. I have a T-Mobile contract, and with trading in my previous Galaxy, there was no savings in taking the A54 vs, the (standard) S23. Not a gamer, I would have been perfectly satisfied with the A54, but have to say that the S23 is just a pleasure to use.

I am going to switch from the iPhone 12 to the a54 phone so this would be a great choice for a upgrade. Much better specs too.

I used iPhone 12 and now have the A54. The Samsung A54 is a win win all day long

@raasiaboobacker9957 I don't chase/count those numbers, but at least 10 hours straight. I don't really care about better specs. I owned so many iPhone too and nope, I didn't like them. Calling that an "upgrade" doesn't right since we are in 2 different worlds Android and IOS. I just don't see any persuasion for me to spend $1500 on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. The phone is huge and long. Battery is not strong enough and there you go, iPhone 15 is on the way in 2 months 🤣🤣🤣

I bought the S23 yesterday, and I'm getting it tomorrow. I got it because I wanted a more compact phone, and I'm coming from a budget phone, so this will be a huge upgrade for me. I didn't go with the A54, because the bezels were kinda big compared to the S23. I also did not want an Exynos chip, because I heard a lot of bad stuff about it. I'm really looking forward to this phone!!! Hopefully it'll last me at least 3 years. 🙂
