Sometimes this show feels like someone humoring their weird, old uncle who's halfway through a bottle at 4pm on Thanksgiving.
I hear you. It must be hard to have Maher monologue over you.
And that's part of the charm. Wish he'd let guests get a word in though. Shatner handled him pretty well.
I was thinking the same thing. I don't really get the compliments on this episode in particular. Lisa looked like she'd rather be anywhere else. The one with Glazer is amazing though!

Yeah, but she does it in a way that is mocking what YOU must think of her-- that way it gives you a chance to say "oh no, not at all-- I think you're great" ---- but if you don't do that, and just let her cut herself down like that-- and you don't disagree with her, she gets a little offended by her own self deprecation. lol.. She puts it out there like a high five for you to knock down, but if you leave her hanging, she doesn't like it. bwhahah... she's funny to watch though.

Not sure what most of you were watching, but I found Lisa to be boring as hell. Love Bill, though, and will continue to watch.

Bill is a bit too irascable for my taste. I do appreciate his political and cultural commentary, but this tendency to be annoyed coupled with his cynicism makes both his programs awkward at times.

I listened to this via podcast, and Bill was so busy rambling about his usual pet peeves and himself that I could barely tell Lisa Kudrow was there. This video is the only proof I have that she was actually on the show. Why bother having guests?
For me, Lisa Kudrow was always the draw to "Friends." Had another actress played her part, I doubt I'd have watched it so religiously... if at all.

I enjoy her too, and I never watched friends. I just like her. I've seen her on various talk shows and I watched a few episodes of The Comeback, too. She just seems nice, and genuine. Easy on the eyes and being a Vassar grad doesn't hurt either. She's the whole package.
I would see her at Albertsons in Park City in her ski bibs. So friendly.
Everyone thinks Lisa is ditz because of her character. Kinda like being type cast. But I loved her movie "Table 13." And this interview shows that she's actually incredibly intelligent. (Conan, you should take note of what Bill is doing here).
The funniest part of this conversation was Bill telling Lisa that there's no way Gary Shandling didn't think she was funny after he himself missed half her humor in this episode. lol Love these two, but that was hilarious to me.

Finally saw The Comeback during quarantine and it really was good. It is kind of a hard watch at times the way she keeps getting humiliated. I think she's right about the victim thing...it hits a bit differently when it's a woman (mom refused to watch it past the first episode). But it does raise the stakes and makes it that much more inspiring when she just keeps doing her thing trying to give the best performance possible. Weird, weird show but great in it's own way. Love Lisa. HBO has the most interesting shows.

Friends came out when I was in high school and I loved it ....then. But it doesn't hold up at all. When you rewatch it as an adult you realize how silly and unfunny it truly was. Now Seinfeld still holds up.

Bill's totally wrong about Jewish department stores........Jewish people famously owned department store chains in the US, and in some European countries, but there was no unofficial rule that non-Jews couldn't shop there or vice-versa, they were open to the public............his overall point about it being a bigger deal back then for a Catholic to date a Jew is right, of course.
Some of Jewish fortunes were made in retail.
He was somewhat right. In those days it was common for certain groups to go to certain stores, restaurants, neighborhoods , and avoid seeing other people .

Canadian hospitals, which aren't for profit, have had a much tougher time dealing with an influx of patients during covid than American ones. Same for many European countries which had to resort to heavy rationing.
Oh, no. It's like watching a smart guy trying to get thru a tedious date with a disappointing fantasy. Even when the guy is really interesting to hear, like this one on here. ;-)!
