Is your kitchen or bathroom tap leaking? Watch our step by step "How to" guide to removing different styles of tap heads / handles/ levers / tops. We show you examples of Taps with and without screws. Our video also takes you through the steps to replace your ceramic quarter turn ceramic disc cartridge. Easily repair your leaking or dripping tap with our helpful guide.
Not sure which size Allen key you need? Usually tap handles with grub screws require either a 2 or 2.5mm Allen key. Some tap handles simply pull off, and others have a lever which unscrew. You will also need an adjustable size spanner.
Sometimes tap handles can get corroded on and be hard to remove. We sell a tap handle puller which will work with tap handles that have a screw in the end and can get leverage under the handle. You can purchase our tap handle puller here tapmagician.co.uk/NSManufactu...
Bath taps usually take 3/4" BSP cartridges and Sink taps take 1/2" BSP. If you need help identifying your replacement cartridge please visit our website. Contact us for any technical support or advice needed.

First video I've found with my style of taps at 1:30 .
Did think they just needed to pull off as there were no grub screws, but they were VERY tight on and didn't want to try levering them off without confirmation.
Now just need to get a strap wrench or similar, to stop the tap turning when getting the valve out.
    Many thanks!

@@shahzaibtariq1475 this is a quote from the relevant comment below "Hi Kenji220100 can we suggest pouring hot water and then cold water over the handle to cause expansion. Sometimes there can be a build up of corrosion under the handle and this should help get the handle off although you will still need to give it a good pull. I hope this helps but any other issues please let us know."

Nice video - thanks ... I have a kitchen tap with two quarter-turn handles that go down for on, and back to upright for off. One of them started to go slightly past upright and drip, and we had to position it carefully upright to stop the drip. Over a couple of months it's now going further past upright, and is harder to find the proper "off" spot. Does this sound like a cartridge replacement, or just an adjustment ?? Thanks.

At about 2 mins the spanner is on the wrong way round for undoing (correct later for doing up). If it's tight a ring spanner may work better. Use your other hand to support the tap to apply counter force, particularly for upright non mixer taps. In extreme cases tape the spout (or use plastic or hardwood fillets) and stop it rotating with a big adjustable (may still mark the chrome). P. S. Always put the plug in when handling the tap head screw 😊. And remember it's magic when you are done ❤

Hi, can you advise me please, my Carron Phoenix Dante Filter Tap uses a 3466R cold valve. It does not have a hex top or a threaded section so I assume it is just a push fit and held in by the shroud. Can you confirm this before I attempt to replace it. Thank you.

  • @johncoppock3823

Screw for handle usually a Phillips, important to get right type to avoid chewing the screw. May need to tap the handle/head off gently small taps. My new insert spindle splines were a bit too tight for the handle but managed to get half on then the screw pulled it in easily. Silicon grease (WRAS spec) on all threads and splines will make it easier to change next time. Don't overtighten the insert. May need just a tiny dab of loctite on the screw threads if doesn't stay tight . . . and jobs a good un. Magic!

Thought I would have to use something thinner for the ones with a pop off top. Tried a flat head but couldn't get it in, I have the lever one, not sure if that's the correct term. Wouldn't mind, just got these taps newly put in by my landlords repair people a week ago. The handle on the hot tap started coming loose a couple of days later. If I can do this myself then that's awesome, just need to get the damn cap off.

One thing you have not covered is a single lever mixer cartridge tap it would be nice to see how to do that one. I have watched several other videos that cover it but on my 8 year old Band Q mixer tap the top part of the cartridge comes off but there is a plastic barrel that does not want to come out and the top retaining ring of the on/off lever snaps into this non removable barrel. Is this a type that is not replaceable, and you have to buy a complete new mixer tap? I hope not as this was a £90 odd tap eight years ago
