- Whooping cough is a highly contagious disease that is especially concerning for infants. TPH says nearly 100 cases have been identified in the city so far this year. That's more than double the pre-pandemic five year average of 38. Whooping cough can also be cyclical and occassionally increases in Ontario every two to six years.

I mean, it's mostly kids who are affected, specifically those too young to receive vaccines, who have weak immune systems by default. Hence why herd immunity via wide-scale vaccination is important, and why waning immunization rates (related to the politicization of vaccines by conservatives and conspiracy wackos) is specifically cited as a contributor.

Living in a house that is so sanitized the children are never exposed to any germs. Look at rural kids, the ones that live on farms. They have immune systems that are unfazed. Don’t believe me? Ask any teacher whose classroom has rural and urban kids both.
