    I created another slower gear between 1st and reverse. Cut an appropriately sized notch in the gear deck and adjusted the rod to match. It was possible because Ariens newer gear decks are different than what was seen in this video. Used a dremel.

      Space Cadet tell us more! @JB can you elaborate on this?

    • @SpaceCadet4Jesus
      @SpaceCadet4Jesus Před rokem +2

      @@brandon_burbach The gear notch deck on an 2019? Ariens runs horizontal, right to left. For each gear is simply a notch in the steel deck which sits the spring loaded lever. There is a wide space between first and reverse which is solid deck into which I cut a slot wide enough to fit the lever.
      Because I felt 1st gear was too fast, I readjusted the gear rod length (as he shows in the video) to match the speed I needed and it also affected the reverse speed. I took put the words (SLO) above the gear with labeling tape. I made it all pretty by black enamel or was that nail polish? 🤔
      Don't try this at home though. This was attempted after hours and hours of sitting at the feet of J.B., learning from the Master himself. Now that I'm a professional (under J.B.) I can ignore all those warnings I see on TV ads. 😏

    • @SpaceCadet4Jesus
      @SpaceCadet4Jesus Před rokem +2

      @@donmayberryjrsOPE yes, certain gear decks may not allow this mod.

    • @SpaceCadet4Jesus
      @SpaceCadet4Jesus Před rokem +2

      I had found that simply adjusting the shift lever rod resulted in speeds, either 1st or reverse that were almost non existent. So that's when I gathered all my J.B. knowledge and cut myself a new gear. Reminder: This is on a newish Ariens but may/may not work on other brands, based on the gear deck. 🙂

    The "all the way down" trick depends of the year/model. Owners should read their manual before adjusting their snowblower as shown. As an exemple, on model 921044 you should adjust the pivot pin with 7 turns from "all the way down". It still work that way, but fwd will be too fast and reverse will be too slow. 921032 model is the same year as 921044 and should be set all the way down.

    The manual for my 2014 Ariens Deluxe 24-921024 says it needs to be 7 full turns up the rod from where the Pivot Pin plugs into the Speed Selector Arm while its in 6th gear. It says (quoting the manual) >>> "Thread adjustment pivot pin along shift rod until it aligns with the mating hole on the speed selector arm, and then turn it up the shift rod 7 turns. Re-insert pivot pin into the hole." This is contrary to what @bravoone3823 said down below in the comments. My owners manual says this method of adjustment is for models #921024, #921030 and #921044.
    Question >>> any harm in having a loose cable for the left lever? I see yours is loose too, in your video. It tightens up (via the spring) when the lever is depressed, but how loose should the cable be?

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  Před rokem

      Hey Dean, this procedure may vary from model to model that’s why I tell people to check their manual.
      The cable should have a little slack in it. Once I push the lever down it pulls up on that spring so it’s tight when in use. Just a little slack is all you need. Thanks for watching

    Hello
    I’m new to your channel and find it very interesting and most definitely helpful. You have stated in a couple of your videos that you live in Buffalo area. I also live in the area, Cheektowaga to be more precise.
    I have a couple of questions about my😅 Ariel’s deluxe 30-in 306cc EFI:
    1 - ever since the Christmas blizzard, it seems that the “automatic” auger hold down lever stopped working. It used to be that when I engaged the auger lever and then I engaged the traction lever I was able to remove my grip from the auger lever and it would stay engaged. This does not seem to happen anymore.
    2 - it seems as if the lever for the shoot position is slightly out of wack. When I need to position the shoot to a full 90 degrees, I need to “kind of push all the way and twist the lever” for it to catch in the appropriate notch. A lot of times because it doesn’t seem to seat right, the lever will pop out of the slot
    Sorry for the lengthy comment but if anyone can help I know it will be you
    Thanks in advance
    Coach 0:09

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  Před rokem

      Hey coach, 1. It sounds like the linkage underneath the control deck connecting the two levers is having issues. I did a video on this on an older model last year. I doubt it’s much different now.
