Are these MLMs actually pyramid schemes?
MLMs are selling the American dream - the opportunity to be your own boss and earn financial independence.
Naturopathic doctor Humbart “Smokey” Santillo created the Juice Plus blend.
Truth In Advertising or, TINA has found misleading health and income claims by Juice Plus.
We’re nearly a year into the global coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn.
In June of 2020, JuicePlus received a warning letter from the FTC for health claims made by participants “community” members regarding the ability of JuicePlus to help treat or prevent coronavirus infection.
Anecdote is not evidence. More isn't always better.
It doesn’t matter if it's MLMs selling shakes, essential oils, or supplements; in the end they just don’t deliver on the health or income claims.

After listening to Dr Laura’s video, I saw a bit of bias scattered here and there in her content. Example: when she said that many human studies had small samples sizes and no placebo group, I went over to the juice plus website and started clicking through the various research papers after looking at 31 of the research papers I found that all but 2 had placebo groups...most were placebo controlled. I would guess we all have our own biases, so it’s up to us to be aware of this and do our due diligence to find the truth.

I must say that I have had it with the MLM offers to make money too, but as far as the product Juice Plus, I was very sick when it was shared with me by a friend. After having tried several medicines to overcome what turned out to be a severe lung infection I was still sick and running fevers. My friend suggested I take it in a heavier dose because of the nutrient value. After following her suggestion, I was able to finally clear my lungs. The crazy thing was that it had a nicotine scent and I hadn't smoke anything for four years. Needless to say I'm still here and 61 years strong. But, mostly what I wanted to say was that she never discussed the business with me. She was truly about helping people and I am forever thankful.

Just wanted to add that this happened back in 2006 and have kept taking it over the years. Funny thing is that I shared with my mom after taking it for two months and found out they had been taking it for ten years. She said that hse had told me a few times, but you know what they say, "The teacher appears when the student is ready." They are in their 80's now and travel the states a few months out of each year visiting with friends from the east to the west coast.

It baffles me why people pour their time into creating negative review videos... it doesn't set you as the expert, in fact, to the experts (like the thousands of medical professionals that DO recommend Juice Plus), you're only coming across like an amateur, dabbling in your own surface level research to - what? make a name for yourself? by bashing others? Interesting.
For those who care to do their own research... Juice Plus is the only thing that got me off my thyroid meds - and I spent 7 years trying other things first, while my husband took JP and thrived. I'm 90% plant based, and I eat my fiber. But when a body is weak it can't absorb nutrients... or when the food travels from anywhere further than your back yard, it's not nutrient dense and your body isn't getting what it needs. So Juice Plus bridges the gap - not only for what you don't eat, but more for what your body can't absorb or what the plants can't provide. Juice Plus is bioavailable, so it's actually better and easier for most bodies, and the studies prove it. And while Juice Plus funds the product and the lab time for the over 45 studies now done over the last 20 years, they couldn't pay any amount of money to get names like MD Anderson and Yale to falsify results or make claims.
Don't be sheep people, and follow a shepherd with a chip on their shoulder.

Soooo… I get it. I appreciate the video, the science, and information BUT!! Her skepticism is also misleading. My personal experience with my sons severe and more rare mental illness (that developed in his late teens during his first semester at college as a Freshman) and living in HELL with him for 3 years after Covid shut colleges down (he never went back) and he came home, the consequential trauma to the rest of the family; threw me into researching possible causes AND solutions, searching for answers both in and out of the scientific medical field, especially after he had 2 month long+ stints in mental health hospitals for threatening suicide.
Covid saved my now 23yr old sons life. Had he stayed isolated at college he would have ended his life there. He even told me that he nearly thew himself off the parking deck. His schizotypal personality disorder mental health/illness was so bad we didn’t recognize him when he came home. He had stopped sleeping, stopped eating, and He had turned into a behavioral monster, addicted to porn.
After 3 years of Psychiatric care, heavy mood altering medications, antidepressants, adhd meds, regular weekly Psychologist visits, 2x week IOP meetings, tapping, DBTherapy, brain mapping, constant conversations and checking in, therapy at home (me holding the knife draw closed as he was having a big emotional drop and tried to open it to hurt himself, all the while I kept speaking truth over him about who he was, how worthy of love and connection (Brenè brown) he was, etc)… he started improving and his behaviors calmed. BUT!!…. I make no claims here this is my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: After having a concussion myself at the end of FEB 2023, a friend brought me JP Omegas (plant based, not fish… which I’m anaphylactic to) which I started taking. My concussion, and unexpectedly, adhd symptoms improved by the end of the week…Noticeably. Impressed at how much better I was feeling I suggested to my son he start taking them, because as well all know, Omegas are good for the brain. Y’ALL!!! In TWO DAYS!! 2!! Only 2!!! AFTER THREE YEARS OF HELL!!!! My sons eyes cleared. Deep shadows lifted from his face. He was SMILING!! He felt that good. He felt HAPPY! ….WHAT!?! 😭😭😭
After a couple weeks of the omegas I started him on the JP Fruits and Veggies along with the omegas, he started having people at work commenting how “on task” he was, or were proud of him for showing up at work ON TIME! (Big deal for a severely depress ADHD individual) He WAS/IS SOOO MUCH CALMER! After those first 2 weeks on JP products, we worked on his budgeting (huge struggle for him a very overwhelming task) as we did weekly, and he handed me $80 and said “Mom, whatever this stuff is that I’m taking… please order more for me I feel so good”. I went to my bathroom and balled!! Yes, I joined JP, yes I buy the products, yes there may be other companies with similar products out there, and do I care about the bad reviews or lack of actual science, kinda yes, (that’s why I was YouTubing and searching for the naysayers, truly wanting to know the concerns and cons of JP)….. but ultimately my answer is NO! I DO NOT CARE! The way I see it God/the universe provided this to out of the blue for my son. Y’all can say whatever you want. I have my son back. He still has a long and difficult/challenging road ahead. But I’m here walking it with him and for the first time in YEARS, I have hope for him. Hope that he will live and be able to thrive. No, of course its not just because of JP products. It’s a combination of Doctors/Psychologists/Psychiatrists/Therapist/Mom/Stable Environment/Making Income/Medication/AND added Nutrition in the form of JP that has helped him. I’m NOT making ANY medical claims! I’m just sharing my ongoing, hard, challenging and difficult experience that I REALLY wish I didn’t have to live through and wish it could all be over! Nobody told me 23 years ago when I was handed a wet, sticky, squirming baby that it would be this hard. That it would break my heart to the point of pain I never thought I could live through. For what it’s worth, that’s my story. If you want a link look up and order from sarahdurham.juice plus.com, help a mom out. And thanks, It just might help me cover the cost of the supplements. 😉

If you are skeptical of her that’s fine. Healthy amount of skepticism is good! However, just look at all the studies she linked in the description. She is not refuting the claims JP makes but simply stating that the claims are not backed up by studies. Also read their own sponsored studies. Most are flawed with a very high risk of bias as they are paid for by JP and ran by JP. She is also more critical on the business model being unethical than the product it’s self, which to me seems true given the facts that they have been in trouble with the FTC.

It does have over 40 clinical studies done on the product and yes some research was paid for but JP has no control over the results. JP is also NSF certified - how many other companies have all this? Very few! Dr. Lara you should really do better research than this.

The same questions would apply when evaluating other MLMs - what are the start up costs? What are the expenses? Do you have to maintain an inventory? Are you required or heavily encouraged to purchase lots of product yourself? Would your profits come from sales to true retail customers or would it be primarily earned off other people you recruit into your downline? What is the opportunity cost?

Nice video. Never judge a religion based off one of its followers. He or she may be a self righteous, arrogant, judgmental piece of crap but that doesn't mean the religion it self is that way. Same thing goes for a salesman for a company. They be greedy or say anything they can to make a sell but that doesn't mean the company is bad. Lets forget all the market and selling crap and this confusing and controlling MLM crap and just focus on the product itself. You yourself said you never tried it before? This itself is not meant to replace any the food you eat. Still eat healthy obviously but I think the idea is that the way fruits and vegetables and food in general are made is just not the way it should be. 50 years ago no supplement or juice plus would be needed because the quality and nutrition value was way better. Nowadays aren't foods nutrition value depleted significantly by the time you eat it. The soil, the crap they spray, shipping time, picking it before its ripe enough and maybe just not farmed or made right overall. I myself don't give a crap about any company. I'm just thinking out loud here. I bought 4 months of juice plus for the first time ever and am about to try it. I have cystic fibrosis so I already have a hard time digesting nutrition as it is and I love the idea of consuming whole fruits and vegetables that are concentrated. Maybe it won't have fiber but I can still eat healthy through out the day. Maybe it isn't a duplicate of an apple or berry or broccoli but if it gives something my body needs on a daily basis that I might be lacking in while still eating healthy I'm gonna give it a try. I found out about it in a cystic fibrosis group that tries to help people and natural ways to not fully rely on pharmaceutical drugs and treatments. I mentioned constipation and somebody mentioned juice plus and answered question I had and never tried to recruit me or make a sell. Simply just told me about. I am bit skeptical but I'm hopeful it will make a difference. I've seen a lot of comments on different videos about juice plus that were quite positive. Ill try to remember to comment on one of your videos to let you know how its going for me down the road. Lets hope it doesn't kill me lol

@@Nourishable very disappointing. Juice Plus IS whole food. You obviously didn't actually research the product, or the company's business plan. You deserve it to your subscribers to do a part 2 of this and actually TRY the product, which has a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back. First, it's NOT a "supplement". That's why you should have tried it. Supplements are isolated vitamins and minerals. Your body doesn't absorb most of them, because our bodies were not made to absorb *isolated* vitamins and minerals found in supplements. However, your body does know how to absorb WHOLE FOOD... Juice Plus IS whole food. Some crucial points you missed:
      1. The vast majority of fruits and vegetables people have available to them in the supermarket are grown in mineral deficient soils. Juice Plus works side by side with the farmers (many of which have been working with Juice Plus for multiple generations) to ensure that before a seed is planted the soils have the proper mineral content... If the soils are depleted in minerals, guess what, so will your produce be deficient in minerals. This is WHY those of us on Juice Plus get results, because the produce used in it HAS the minerals your body needs. You can eat all the fruits and vegetables you want at the grocery store, you will never be able to get from them what you do from Juice Plus. I know, because I am vegetarian and didn't think I needed Juice Plus...UNTIL I tried it and realized I was not only NOT getting the quantity, because it's concentrate, but I also wasn't getting the QUALITY that I get in Juice Plus. It has been life changing for me once I tripled my doses...due to thyroid issues. We don't make medical claims, because fruits and vegetables can affect people differently (just like ALL synthetic, prescription drugs btw) but, I still have my thyroid and it's functioning after 5yrs, and many sever allergies I had to foods and local weeds are gone. I didn't make any other changes in my life, except taking Juice Plus. In the past I had been on other high end supplements and other fruit and vegetable powders prior to Juice Plus, however, Juice Plus is the ONLY product I have EVER taken where I saw permanent health changes...
      2. They do not harvest until the produce is at peak ripeness. Just like wineries, the famers wait until the produce is fully ripened before harvesting. When you buy produce at the grocery store, it is picked green, shipped and gassed in the trucks on the way to the store to ripen them... So once again, the produce is deficient in nutrients because it was picked too early... However, with Juice Plus, it is vine ripened to ensure you get the highest phytonutrients/phytochemicals possible. I feel relatively confident in saying, the majority of people shopping for produce are NOT getting that from their local grocery store.
      3. The processing plants are kept close to the farm fields so that within a few hours it is in production so that the nutritional properties are maintained.
      4. Leaves, stems, peels, and seeds are ground up into the concentrate fruit and vegetable powders. Everyone knows that's where the majority of the vitamins and minerals are, it's just the it's not something most people will eat due to bitterness or like grape seeds, they're hard!
      4. It's NSF certified. There is only 1% of nutritional products in the world that hold this certification. It's very expensive for the company to maintain and it's very prestigious. It guarantees the consumer that what's on the label is ACTUALLY in the products...And nothing more, like molds, chemical toxins and contaminates. Again, you don't get that guarantee from the produce you're buying -->ANYWHERE, nor over 90% of the nutritional products you're taking!
      5. As others have already commented, you can't say, "It doesn't work." There are currently over 40 clinical research studies on it from the most respected universities, and medical facilities in the WORLD, that show the benefits of Juice Plus on the body. The research papers are accessible to the public via Juiceplus.com. When you open a profile on any individual product, the clinical research is there. It's dry reading for most, but I personally find it interesting. Juice Plus is the most clinically researched nutritional product in the world.
I've said enough, but you didn't do enough research on the Juice Plus business model either. Even Steve Jobs once said, that if he had had it to do all over again, he would have done network marketing. Juice Plus is not a pyramid scheme as some of the viewers have commented, lol, please, pyramid schemes are illegal.
Not only does an uninterested observer see nothing, he sees wrongly.

she is not a doctor and just because someone posted a video does not mean its true or accurate, food can help aid not cure but aid in recovery and detox illnesses and health problems in the body. but your diet and life style also plays just as big of a role in whether or not your immune systems detoxifies or stays the same or worsens. native americans, and herbalist have aided in the reversal of illnesses and diseases sense the before modern medicine the only difference is that science has taken over with false accusations and manipulation because you can't make money off of something that can not be patented or claimed. also think about this a cured patient is a lost patient. pills don't cure they block symptoms and create new ones. herbs, fruits, and veggies are the only things on this planet that unless there is an allergy or intolerance that can not hurt you if its organic, ripe and fresh.

Also people should think about the product they are selling. Is it really a good product? I got suckered into buying it but then I realized it not even really a good product. After they process all the fruits and veggies all that is left is vitamins A, C. & E! Most people aren’t even deficient in A, C & E! You only need 65-90mg of vitamin C a day and one orange has about 50mg. Plus I heard recently that the fruits and veggies they use to make juice plus aren’t even organic.
Raw fruits and veggies is best to get maximum nutrition. Once you cook it or process it like juice plus does, it breaks it down and less vitamin & minerals is left. I’d would like to see what they do to process the foods to make the supplements if that is even what they do! 🙀
Drink a daily green smoothie instead!

Unfortunately you are misinformed on the labeling laws and what they are required to put on a label. JP is tested and packaged in a pharmaceutical grade lab, uses a process that does not involve heat so nutrients are preserved, has an NSF stamp saying what they say is in it is, is non-GMO, and cannot state organic because some of the smaller family farms they support do not have the funds to be certified organic but actually are organic.

    • @Myeverydaywifelife

@@tereseschelling327 ok but read the labels in the JP it says only A, C & E are in it. Only traces maybe of another vitamins. That’s all that left after processing. Most people are are not deficient in A, C, E because those are the vitamins most prevalent in most veggies and fruit. What about magnesium, potassium, B6, iron. You need 75mg of vitamin C daily, an orange has 51 mg plus it has, fiber, potassium, B6, magnesium etc Just eat your food or make a green smoothie. I make mine with carrots, lemon, spinach, kale, pineapple, ginger, banana, strawberries etc It’s hyper nutrition for you.

@@Myeverydaywifelife Every fruit, veggie and grain has tens of thousands of nutrients in them. It would be impossible to list everything on the bottle. You can keep doing what you're doing. I don't usually comment, however, I feel compelled to mention a few things. Juice Plus is a Network marketing company that focuses on retail sales. You also condemned their research saying they used small subject groups and then cited a study disparaging them that highlights data on one single 51 year old woman. And that study makes no conclusive claims that her issues were directly related to Juice Plus. And lastly, the woman you interviewed confirmed that if a network marketing company is focused on retail sales it is a good business model. Juice plus is a product driven company. Partners do not make a dime on a distributor fee, theirs or anyone else's. Partners pay the same price for their JP as their customers - no buyer's club pricing. Just a quality product at a very fair price. There are no monthly purchase requirements. Just a fair, generous and equitable compensation plan. And you don't have to search for the details on that. You can find it right on the juiceplus.com website upfront and center for all to see. Lastly, lastly, I love the product. It worked for me. And as you said, we should be eating 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. That is difficult to do. Juice Plus helps to bridge that gap. And no, there is not enough fiber in the capsules to meet the requirement of plant fiber per day, that is why JP always advices people to eat as many plants per day as possible. Unfortunately, much of the produce we consume is deficient in micronutrient content due to farming, harvesting, cooking methods and shipping processes. That's where Juice Plus comes in....and I love it.
