CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Linda (Angela Featherstone) tells Robbie (Adam Sandler) why she didn't show up at their wedding.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Mousse up your hair and pull your Missing Persons records out of mothballs for this romantic comedy set in that era of questionable fashion decisions, the '80s. In 1985, Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) is a vocalist whose rock band stubbornly refuses to get off the ground. In the meantime, he makes a living playing wedding receptions, where his easy charm and ability to schmooze brings him a steady income. Robbie meets Julia Sullivan (Drew Barrymore) when she's working as a waitress at one of his wedding gigs; he immediately takes a shine to her, but since he's engaged, he keeps his distance. Robbie learns that Julia is also engaged; unfortunately, her fiancée Glen Gulia (Matthew Glave) is an obnoxious, self-obsessed yuppie who is chronically unfaithful to her. When Robbie gets stood up at the altar by his fiancée, it's a crushing blow to his ego, and he moves from working weddings to bar mitzvahs to avoid the humiliating issue of matrimony, and he considers giving up on music altogether. In time, Robbie realizes that he needs to step in and stop Julia from marrying Glen before the woman he's come to love ruins her life. Adam Sandler's former Saturday Night Live co-stars Kevin Nealon and Jon Lovitz make cameo appearances, as do Steve Buscemi and Billy Idol -- as himself.

My reaction when children say they have a SCIENCE project due that day it arrives
LOL me neither. The delivery by Adam Sandler is perfect LOL
I love how pissed he gets, cuz he is rightfully pointing out to his ex fiancé that rather than stand him up at their wedding, which they planned for months, sent out invitations and spent money they will never get back, she could have told him the night before about her misgivings and her doubts. Instead, she just didn't show up at all and humiliated him in front of their friends and family.

I like this line as well as "now get off my Van Halen -shirt before you jinx the band and they break up"
When I was younger I was so confused by this line because I thought he was literally talking about the band (collar) around the neck of the shirt hahaha

I miss 90s Adam Sandler..
It was pretty much foretold in this movie when the Fonzie guy says you know why Happy Days got cancelled? Because no one wants to see a guy in his 40's hitting on chicks. Same applies to Sandler's comedy. It's cute when he's young, but not now that he's 50. Plus he ran out of ideas a long time ago.
David McGinness Same. Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer, and even Big Daddy are his best films and still hold up
He was really on a run of great comedies with Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison in 95-96.
Recycling the same jokes with the same second-and third-string sidekicks in all his movies probably doesn't help either.....
He did SORT OF UNjump the Shark with his 2019 SNL hosting duties, esp, the tribute to Farley, but his NEXT project will be the real test of him re-defining his middle=aged career.
but he seems too comfortable just remaking the same crappy movies with the same crappy people.
90's adam is better than 2020 adam
Easily one of my favorite scenes from this movie. One of my favorite Adam Sandler movies EVER!!
This is the perfect meme.
We’re not in love with Sandler now, we’re in love with Sandler 20 years ago.
You kids grew out of him.
Same fate awaits tom Holland lol perhaps 2020 lol
I literally fell in love with him as an actor in this movie. It remains one of my ATFs. I detest the amount of crap he’s done in his career but I can’t quit him. When he wants to be, he’s damn good.
That’s my boy was pretty funny
He literally plays the same role in every movie now.
He's still funny. You just lost your sense of humor.
The "I have been talking to my friends" line. ;-) I remember in my mid-20's (back in the '80s) a girlfriend of mine, after I gave her Christmas gifts that I saved months to buy told me: "You know, all my friends tell me that you are a loser because you do not have enough money, but I have hung in there with you." At that moment two things happened: I actually realized that in her mind, she thought that she was being "devoted to me" in saying that. Second, that I was angrier at myself than her for having such poor judgement in relationships.
I've been there too.
Hope things are better for you now.
Everyone plays the fool sometimes, there’s no exception to the rule…Kenny Williams.
Why do we date bimbos instead of seeing a person's personality
@@aliezahjuarez1212 At least one reason!
Adam Sandler did the 80's nostalgia trend way back in 1998. Can you believe it he did it when the 80's was just a decade ago. Wow!
"I still got the spandex, I'll put em on right now." 😆
Favorite line of the movie. I love the way he screams. It always cracks me up. 1:23
MGTOW
What was Robbie thinking anyway. Linda is drunk sleepover type girl, not the marrying kind.
Sleepover? Like pijamas, popcorn, scary stories, pillowfight type?
She's a lot hotter than Barrymore.
Just dress her up nice and proper and she'd blow Barrymore out of the water, ez

" I still got the spandex ill put 'em on right now"
She really hurt him. What a selfish woman.
Yeah I mean I get wanting different things out of life but don't let it get all the way to the altar before figuring it out
So true I e always hated these kinds of people in movies or shows who are more comfortable humiliating their other by leaving them alone at the altar instead of just saying no when they propose
@@AndreNitroX Well who knows how long they were engaged? Maybe when he proposed he was still doing the night shows and then when he transitioned to wedding singer she didn't realize she was falling out of love and by then the wedding planning was on track. but yeah... leaving him at the alter is cruel.
@@Kaboomboo i am going by the information given to us in the movie. But as far as im concerned you dont wait until the day of the wedding to break things off, unless your a sadistic person. Think of the cost, the emotional trauma, its the cruelest thing that could happen, and yet it happens in every movie with this kind of situation. And I dislike that.
Or, as he said, she could've td him that information sooner
"Licking the microphone like David Lee Roth"
Hahaha!
a lesson in avoiding people who dont want you for you but for who they want you to be
Well said.
This whole scene is a combination of honest, relatable feelings we have deep down inside and hilarious overacting. Probably half the reason it's funny is how honest it is.
1. Guy holds out a line, fishing to see if it can be rekindled or salvaged.
2. Girl politely refuses, shows some regret and says some crap you'd hear from self-professed "relationship experts" that just live to poke holes in anything.
3. Guy mentions he could have used that information yesterday. We all wish we had said that but often we give up and hold the frustration in or we just try harder to talk our way back to her.
4. Girl gets vicious and talks like being uppity isn't a negative personality trait, then belittles him.
5. Guy loses it and snarls his frustration. No self-defense, no trying to make her feel bad, just yells at her finally. We all wish we did that more often. But usually, we try to defend ourselves and/or try to talk our way around it.
I can relate to Robbie. Something you could've told me yesterday.
1:20 you can see how heartbroken he was after hearing all that.
I felt bad for robbie having his heart broken at the wedding that just wasn't nice.
he loved her
heidi
Yup, but he was better off with Julia in the end because she was basically there for Robbie when he needed her.
ladyfire44 i agree julia is the right one for robbie
Yup. Besides, Glenn and Linda deserved each other based on how shallow they were. Linda had loved Robbie for his earlier ambitions of being a rock star, but dumped him for the lost ambitions. Glenn only fell in love with Julia because of her family's wealth and her mother's influence. However when Robbie learns from Holly that Glenn often cheats on Julia by dating on the sly(even which Glenn admits to in front of them), he was angry about it. Robbie appreciated being in Julia's company more. Even Robbie made comparisons of a life being married to her to a life with Linda. He sees Linda for the shallow and callous person she is inside
Even when she was in her wedding dress trying to imagine being happy to marry Glenn, Julia saw the reality of being married him like inside and sees him for the selfish and shallow person he is. Instead, she envisioned herself being married to Robbie and tears of joy come out. In her imagination Robbie is the wonderful husband who would love and cherish her.
Heidi Rourke better he found out before they tied the knot then afterwards.
@@ladyfire44 He liked Julia because she would be a stable 'side girl' that wasn't after him before he was wealthy. He admitted Julia loved him before he made his money so he could trust her. He was basically setting up his safety net for whenever he didn't fee like going out for easy tail. But you're right, Linda and Glenn deserved each other, but even Glenn wouldn't stick around with Linda for 2 days lol
one of the only runaway brides that you don't even remotely feel bad for...

“Things that could’ve been brought to my attention YESTERDAY!”
I wish Adam Sandler could again make awesome movies like this one
1:21 "Once again things that could've been brought to my attenTENTION YESTERDAY!!!"

the kids comment was hilarious...😂😂😂
Watched this movie again YESTERDAY!!! ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
I proposed to my Fiance last month and 2 weeks in she decided we needed to take a break... I decided to tell her I wanted to know if she wanted to marry me yes or no... She has known me for 3 years of dating and all of my issues suddenly became amplified to her and, thats something I shoud have known yesterday!
Its awesome how he starts off Subtle. Then gets extremely pissed in 1 sentence lol.
I’ve always hated characters in movies who would rather waist money on an expensive wedding, humiliate and break the heart of their other by not showing up. When they could have resolved it by saying no at the proposal or atleast mentioning their doubts before the wedding happens.
One of his best movies, if not THE best.
1:13 as much as I hate to admit it, she definitely has a point.
A point that could have been brought *TO HIS ATTENTION YESTERDAY!*
She may have had a point, but not only does it make her look like a gold digger and completely unreasonable (while Julia obviously was very supportive in helping Robbie build a better life for himself), but she could have voiced her concerns before the wedding date, even the day before would have been better.
Yes but 60 bucks a pop is terrible money for a wedding singer even back then and he was running the band! Any wedding band that was half decent should pay $300 for a front man/booker. Maybe her point is he has no business sense and is too soft and easy going.
@@wiltner but yet she comes crawling back halfway through the movie later. If you're with someone for money and not love, theres no relationship.

I use this phrase in life all day. It just makes sense!
“Why didn’t you bring this to my attention yesterday?” Robbie asked calmly
My favorite Adam Sandler movie!!😁💗❤💗❤💗❤💗😁
I miss this guy!
Overall I think the movie was silly but there were some precious scenes. On this one I get a kick out of her reaction when he says "Why do you need to leave Richfield?"
Ridgefield, not Richfield. Richfield is a city in Ohio
Just shows how out of tune they were. He wanted to stay and she wanted to leave. That's like one of the first things you should discuss when discussing the future.
Out of all the Sandler movie quotes out there why is this one underused?
This is exactly how I feel right now.
The line that spawned a dozen or so memes. 😊

I bet we've all been in a situation like this
Shatter! Splinter! Smash! (That’s the sound of a heart breaking into a million pieces.)
I never realized how much Adam Sandler and Jerry Seinfeld look alike until seeing Adam with that hair lol.
Hearing her next sentence starting with the words "I've been talking to my friends......" would've made me want to throw something at her!
the reason why I like the wedding singer more because my High School friend didn't invite me to their wedding because for one his wife didn't like me and she's a piece a work and it hurt my feelings because I wanted to see him get married and it made me mad where they should invite me the wedding I did nothing between them.
Heidi
Lol as much of a terrible person she is for leaving him at the alter, she does make some sound points.
She made no sound points, but even if she had, they would've been more useful to know yesterday. Her excuses don't validate her leaving him at the altar; they just show her up to be the arsehole that she is.
Points she could have made to him YESTERDAY!
Yeah I didn't say they validated her. But hey in this case he dodged a bullet. If they did get married and they lived the life similar to what she described they'd both be miserable. Better have one bad day, then a lifetime of sadness.
@@patsystone9891 she do have a point. He should have a fulltime job but she was wrong for not showing up
She lost any kind of high ground when she said “yes” to his proposal tbh. If she really based her entire image of Robbie based on his stage act and thinking he was going to stay that way forever (spandex pants, licking the microphone etc.) then that was just dumb. By the way, someone check up on David Lee Roth and tell me if he’s still like he was in the 80s 😅 people change. Linda was still in an immature mindset and wouldn’t have been good marriage material anyways. Robbie definitely dodged a bullet. Julia was much better for him. We can only hope Linda grew up at some point.

Moral of the story: Don't lead on your fiancee when you have cold feet.
I like neither of them in this scene.
Adam Sandler in "uncut gem" has renewed my faith in sandler
1:21 - this is possibly the reason I was named Robbie. Because that sounds exactly how I'd put it. Also I was the lead singer in a band too.
Only hole in the idea is that I pre-date the film.
He is so good in this, especially this scene. The movie wouldn’t had worked without his acting chops beneath the comedy.
My other favorite acting moment from him in this is when he was testing Glenn at the bar with the hot women. You can read everything he’s thinking and how he sets out to reveal the creep, then his disgust and worry.
Comedic actors are still actors. If you don't have some sort of talent in both delivery and timing, the audience won't buy your performance. Personally I think in both drama and comedy there's a fine line between being cheesy and just plain stupid. Good actors know the balance. I think Adam Sandler does exceptionally well with both.
