    1. They do eat plants: leaves, flowers, berries, roots, buds, shoots. It hurts to see them destroying plants in no time 😢😢😢 They can do a significant damage in one night.
    2. I can't see any benefits from them in my garden. None.

    I live in rural area and have an endless supply of these things. Each morning I have to vacuum several hundred of them off of the bottom of my pool. At times they look like lemmings headed across the deck.

    Planted six cucumber seedlings and wondered why they weren't thriving. Damn those roly polys...they have been eating the roots.... Didn't know they were pests because I've never had any problems with other plants...

    • @grinkevych
      @grinkevych Před 11 měsíci

      they are not pests. they eat only decaying plants and organisms, they are more of natural sanitars, since they eat ground fungus which is not good for us in big quantities. so probably your soil isn's that good which causes the damage to cucumbers and causes rolly-pollies to eat fungus or other dead roots there as the result.

      @@grinkevychfalse. They do eat seedlings quickly and can destroy a young crop of multiple varieties. Get them under control fast

    Pill bugs can decimate blooms and fern fronds and even dusty miller that deters rabbits. The problem is excessive moisture…heavy rain fall over a period of time, heavy use of water sprinkler systems. Heavy use of insecticides is not the answer as this destroys valuable insects and the millions of organisms that make up soil.
    Check with a county agricultural agent or master gardener organization in your area for methods to use that are not destructive to everything.

    I have yet to find a SINGLE hose end sprayer that has any gallon rating. Not a single one.
    And none allow you to adjust the application rate. All or none so to speak.
    Will that poison harm an organic garden? Bees? Beneficial insects?
    What about grasshoppers?

  • @rodtexas642
    @rodtexas642 Před 2 lety +12

    Sowbugs and pillbugs general do little or no harm to plants. In large numbers they may feed on plants at ground level or on small roots, but the only real threat they present is that the feeding locations can provide openings for bacteria or fungi which could result in rot setting in.

    Pill bugs aren't pests there actually good for the soil and break down toxic material in the soil including heavy metals there's absolutely no reason to destroy them they can be managed through clearing areas around gardens were you dont want them turning your yard or garden into a toxic waste dump and then years later you can't understand why you have cancer isn't the answer .

    Wow… can’t believe someone would post such evil and label these as pests…. You’d have to poison the whole earth to get rid of these. It’s just plain wrong, they literally just eat dead leaves and the smallest of seedlings, if youre a gardener just mulch your seedlings with dead leaves and they’ll never touch your seedlings. It makes me so angry how committed some people are to produce content that’s literally ruining the planet for no reason 😪

I want then gone from my garden but they re welcome to the rest of the place, and there is lots of places here to eat fungo and do their thing. I do however want a solution that doesn’t require PPE like maskes and special clothing. Uggg maybe they taste good since they are related to lobsters and shrimp.
