    Wow! That setup looks GREAT for the gray water tank install! Looks like it is SOLID! Very cleaver using the perforated ceiling material on the bottom to protect the tank from road debris. What's even cooler is that because it isn't a solid piece of metal, water will be able to drain out of the bottom of that metal piece! Definitely a great idea! You two are brilliant! Love that Meredith is never scared to go out there and get things done on her own! You're such an inspiration lady! As always... We are proud of you and so grateful to be able to bounce ideas around with you guys, and be silly! Big love! - B + E

      Thank you so much guys!! We love having all of that metal to use for all kinds of projects! We hope it is sturdy enough and cant wait to get it in there and test it!

  • @MattThie1
    @MattThie1 Před 3 lety +5

    FYI the perforated metal sheet is not for ventilation, it is one of the best sound deadening materials made. It works by breaking the sound waves into smaller high frequency components that are absorbed by the fiberglass insulation and also uses the principle of destructive interference where these sound waves cancel each other out. The size and spacing of the holes can change the acoustic range. In school buses they frequently do the whole ceiling to reduce the voices of the riders as well as the engine and road noise. They also use this material in band practice rooms for the same reason.

    Hey Guys from Scotland. Im building an Rv using a Volvo B10M plaxton. I was watching your grey water tank episode. Just a quick one on the unistrut fixing. I use unistrut every day as a fire protection engineer and saw you where using washers after fitting you spring nut which we call zebidees did not know if you new you can get galvanized unistrut square plates which give better rigidity of the studs hanging down. Hope that helps. Loveing whatching your adventure, carry on the good work. Xx

Kind regards John

    the weight of a 100 gallon tank when full is 834 pounds , it kindoff worrying to see it held up with the thin L profile , i can see the holes tear out from around the treaded rood untill it just drops out and the bus drives over it with the rear set of wheels probably splitting it wide open like an orange (with a lot less nicer smell ) at the most inconveniant time
    you might want to replace the ones that the treaded rods go through that are under the tank with U shaped heavier metal ones encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcQFeEqH0Vg5styU-R5xK4xdZZNdjzr84DqN7A&usqp=CAU , you could use that unistrut stuff , but thats kindof tall and might mess with the groundclearace the rest only holds the tank in place those should do fine , you could do it at a later date , the way you have it now is good enough to install it and plumb it up
    make sure you mount one way valves of some sort intoo the drains or you be having a geiser of verry stinky liquid shoot up the sink when you step on the brakes and all the liquids in the tank sloshes forward or moving away from a stopsign and have the toilet or showerpan overflow
    if you have some of that sound dampening mat left , you could stick that to the both ends that might help keeping the sand and gravel from hitting the tank directly
    its probably a good idea to close up / shield the space above the tank or you be carrying a lot of dried mud and sand on top of the tank after some travel

      I agree.... I used the same material to just lift my Jeep top off and it bowed/bent super fast and almost ruined my top. I ended up getting some super thick L and U brackets. It picked myself and two friends up, no problem.

  • @redpandabus-adventuresinlife

    Alot of people throw out bed frames. I am keeping the ones l can get for free or for just a little bit of money. They are great for jobs like this and under storage cabinets. And lots of other bus building projects like decks and hangers.

    We ended up drilling through our metal subfloor and supporting with big square washers on the all thread bolts from inside the bus. It was probably overkill and I hope it will stay sealed, not causing our plywood subfloor to rot or have issues with condensation/thermal barrier. I like your somewhat simpler approach of only using the floor joists and keeping everything outside. Guess time will tell. Probably will plan to keep the tank as emptied as possible anyhow, so mostly weightless. Nice vid, as always!!! 👍👍👍🚍🚍🚍

    I know this is late and I don't see it in the comments but Gilligan Phantom youtube channel used a fresh water tank for his grey water and he said it was actually something he regretted in his entire build. The fresh water tanks are not designed to let all of the volume inside to come out. Grey and Black water tanks are designed to do this. He said the grey water smell was so horrible that he is thinking about completely redoing it. This was a while back. Please disregard if this was explain or thought of or if I am mistaken on the type of tank that you are installing.
