That last part about Hawai’i residents voting on statehood is really misleading, as native Hawaiians and other significant ethnic groups weren’t fairly represented. By then, Europeans had far outnumbered Hawaiians and certain ethnic groups were excluded from voting. This played a significant role in the vote outcome for Hawai’i to become a “state”

Nobody cares what the ICC thinks. They have no power to enforce and the USA is party to that anyways. I find it it ironic that the Tahitians that came over and conquered Hawaii, stole it from the Marquesans, subjugated them, then cry foul when the same is done to them. It's a story as old as time, or shall I say mankind, and the practice of conquest is basically universal in the human experience.

I liked how this video speaks of King Kamehameha III, but failed to mention that he and his envoys sought out and achieved Sovereignty and Independence of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1843. Hawai’i became the first non-european to enter into the family of Nations.
Was that not an important part of Hawai’i’s history? Independence Day of the Hawaiian Kingdom, November 28, 1843.
To quickly speak of Kamehameha III, but not mentioning the most important part of Hawai’i history seem like cherry-picking.
But then it makes sense to leave out the Independence of Hawai’i in this video, because then the last 3 minutes of this video would not make any sense if had you.
Right? How can an Independent State get overthrown? Governments get overthrown, not the country. The Sovereignty continues, even without a government. Where’s the Treaty?? Not U.S. Congressional law, a joint resolution of annexation. A treaty is bilateral...

A few problems with this video:
Hawai'i was forced into the US federation against their will, some say without their knowledge; Hawai'ian characters depicted with fair skin???; narrated by a white guy; Hawai'i misspelled REPEATEDLY through the video; no mention of why Cook was killed or what the battles were about = silencing the people who refused to be colonised; no mention of how missionaries destroyed culture and language = genocidal practices; equating foreign diseases with local wars in one sentence is horrifically insensitive and obscures the cause of both = white colonisation; 'cheap, foreign labour' = slavery; no mention of how a vote by colonisers with military support might not be horrifically biased against Hawai'ians; no mention of why preserving culture and language might actually be necessary unless sovereignHawai'ians had been driven almost to extinction.
It is our white responsibility to apply accurate labels and present information with the awareness of the effects of colonisation. White-washing history in the above ways demonstrates enormous cowardice. This video is deeply offensive.

Everyone keeps on saying how Hawaii should be on its own and that the USA forced them. The US helped Hawaii so greatly after Pearl Harbor! Hawaiin's noticed that they needed some help and when the US asked them to become a state they almost all voted yes! Hawaii is now doing great! I do see that it was illegal, but the US helped Hawaii so much! Did you hear, first 1/2 of the population died, then 1/5 of that died! Hawaii is now thriving!

No, Hawaii was FORCED to become a state, and the bombing of Pearl Harbor was BECAUSE of the US, if the US didn’t force Hawaii to become a state all of that could’ve been avoided.

A while ago scholars decided that CE (Common Era) was more relevant than AD (Anno Domini), because most of the world is not Christian, and not every believes in the same Domini. AD is still widely used, however, but CE is legit.
